I enjoyed the video. As a kayak and boat owner I honestly love them both. 2 hobies and an 15×36 Aluminum build! The one thing that ties the both together is the DIY. Fish on and Tight lines
I kept thinking… “up a creek and no paddle” but I hard core felt for you when the water started splashing in. You talked me out and back into trying this with this video. Still building my jon to bass boat first. I’m too old and fat for this.
Nice review! I’ll pick mine up this afternoon, but most lakes are already frozen here in Sweden. Looking forward to see some mods to improve the total experience! Tight lines!
A truly honest review been looking at 1 with the spot lock troll motor & all wired with live scope with being more into crappie than bass

That Johnyak is sick I’m a bigger guy to think I would steer clear of the smaller yaks the t motor only lakes out where I’m at would be awesome with the Johnyak. Glad I found your channel. Great vid keep ‘em comin lookin forward to watching all your older vids.

I don’t own a kayak, but the reason I would want one is for creeks and small ponds. I also think a kayak can launch where boats can’t in tougher situations but I likely will be getting both, but the boat will be used far more

I use my kayak to get me in our numerous small creek here in Alabama. The fishing is really good and is an awesome change of scenery. Still wouldn’t trade my Carolina Skiff for one though.

The front rod holder you can put your rods in there while trolling. Hands free fishing
It's supposed to come with a splash guard that goes just below the peddles.
I wish the sit on kayaks were around when I was younger.

I have a yak because there’s literally only like 4 lakes in my entire state that allow outboards and most of the lakes don’t even have boat launches so it’s way easier to just throw a yak on the roof and I can get to way more places and catch more fish
random question... have you ever tried butyl tape in between 2 pieces of riveted aluminum to make a seal? if it works it would be alot less mess while making boxes compared to 5200 and no waiting for it to cure.
nice review! that second fish while trolling was a nice catch!...JonYak is still my preference.

kayaks and boats are made for people with very different mindsets. It's like recreational motorcyclists and bicyclists. There's some overlap, but generally speaking, the two groups of people are looking for very different things out of their experience.

On a kayak I noticed it’s easier fishing if I cast to where I wanna go.

They make neoprene booties that will help with those cold feet. Upgrade to an electric trolling motor with spot lock to replace the paddles and your cruising. As a big guy I'll still stick to my 14' v-hull. It just feels so much safer and I can bring more gear and a live-well as well. It also handles chop on the water way better. Now the question that remains is... How much crap are you're going to get from the rest of the crew for doing this? ;)
Make like Zoffinger and mount a Jet engine onto it! Or a 5hp gas motor

Most no motor waterways at least by me are small enough you don’t even really need to get on the water, you can damn near cast from shore to shore
Try a old town or hobie, or a nucanoe if you want a motor
For a poly boat look at poly craft . Australian make and made from 11ft to over 5m long
Even with the pedal drive, never leave the paddle for the very shallow water where you can't use the pedal drive
By the way, those holes are meant to be open so the boat can self-bail.
Hi - thanks for the thorough review of the Riot Mako Kayak from unpacking it to getting in on the water. Also nice that your first kayak fishing experience was in our Riot Kayak. I like that your comments are from a perspective of a non-kayaker so things like the plastic material, the rubber hatch, rudder system for a kayak were new to you. Your friend that gave you the kayak really needed to send you a paddle to get out and back to shore in shallow water. Nice catch by the way and figuring out trolling. The 12 and 14 do handle well in rough conditions/ wind and waves but best to have a paddle along to help pedal and paddle if going into the wind.

Nice job on making your own kayak cart and doesn’t take much effort if you are handy. There are also kayak carts sold for sit on top kayaks that fit into the scupper holes as I think you saw in your local kayak store. An example is here: ruclips.net/video/FDFEGWxLbAY/видео.html

I own both a kayak and 2 boats. In Australia.
The kayak is awsome to get to areas or riveted or creeks that are only 20cm deep and say 3ft wide to catch 80cm plus barra and Australian bass to 54cm . A boat of any sort would not work and not assesable by foot.
You totally missed the boat on Kayaks (ha ha). I got rid of my 16 foot V tin because after the kayak I simply didn't want use the tin and motor.
1. no motor, for almost every situation. Part of kayak fishing is about mild exercise while fishing and no smelly loud motors.
2. I have the Top of the line and the bottom of the line pedal kayaks (that mako). The hobie is a fishing machine and there are no issues walking about it.
I live in the land of a quarter million lakes. Jon boats are not a thing here. It is all heavy duty or kayak or wide tin.
I am glad people all like different options to fish, but i just can't do it. I can't sit like that and cast for me personally, I am glad others can. I am tired of walking the bank for years or fishing in my buddies boat. For my little money i have , i want a jon boat build or some small old ranger restore build. I will be happier for the type of lakes i fish.
You definitely want to make sure you have a paddle on a kayak and I know you have one from a couple of boat videos I've seen already!😅🤣🤣🤣
Here’s why the JonYak crushes all kayaks. The can put a trolling motor with spot lock on it. The only thing a kayak can do well is troll, but trolling is boring.

agree. I have a native titan 12 and that thing is amazingly stable like if i was fishing on a dock
Yeah I have a Jackson coosa HD 12’6” by 36” and I can stand it in while fishing, it’s a great yak and gets me places I can’t get to with my boat

You are honest...you are a big boy and this kayak is not for big guys that was way to much water in the kayak to be safe. Guaranteed at some point your going to flip that on especially on ocean conditions with swells and whitecaps smacking it sideways.

This seems to be a horribly designed yak. Pedal system sounds like a concrete mixer. The bottom has no guide channels, it's very flat, so it tracks like crap and probably the reason Tiny Boat Nation was constantly drifting left/right and could not track straight. The steering component looks like garbage (why not integrate it inside the yak) and appears to be another source of complaints from many users. I am not a fan of the miscellaneous cords/wires they have running all over. It's heavier than competitors (Native for example) but cheaper than those same competitors. The rear rail system doesn't look like it would support landing gear and I personally don't want to fidget with homemade landing gear and running that nonsense to/from the truck after launching. All around good review - confirmed my suspicions, stay away from this yak!

one thing you begin to realize being an avid kayak fisherman myself is how soft and squishy boat fishing makes you.. even tiny boats.. lol

@@MichaelLopezTBNation not that one lol a wilderness or a hobbie and more with the flap instead of the propeller and that is sealed on top angler pro kayaks I ne er heard of riot but is my opinion bro and I know it doesn't matter as long as you have fun. I said not that kayak more because of the hight on the sides from the water and the propeller
