Oh, I’d love a female protagonist. The ideal is that there is an option for female and male, though, and that the difference in both routes is still present, just like in P3P. Just for replay value for us addicts. But yeah, like, I’d be so hype
I think they can make the choice easy if they did something like twin siblings. Choice between male or female, a social link between the twins, the story doesnt have to really change.
Scarlet Nexus did a great job using 2 protagonist, the playthrough is practically the same but you see different perspective of the story depending on which character you choose.
I would love a fe mc. A factor i don't see people addressing is how long the game is. What adds to having a separate main character is replay value, so it comes down to "what percentage of people are willing to replay the game for that experience?" If most people play the game once and then never play the game again for a 100+ hour jrpg then maybe making those efforts aren't enticing enough. ATLUS would have those numbers i suppose.
what if we get a second protagonist that is not playable in the main game but the story and things like plot twists is connected to her, basically She being a second Aigis, and if Atlus wants it they can make a DLC like Episode Aigis, it is an easy way to still have a silent protagonist but a second protagonist that is important in the story, from a business perspective it is an easy way to make a lot of money on one specific character which clearly works with how much Aigis merchandise there is
In a perfect world we'll get to choose the mc's gender, regardless of if the dual mc rumours are true. Would also be nice if the MC is voiced, really enjoyed Ringo and Metaphor's MC being voiced!
For me its going to be fine, I really liked Ringo in Souls Hackers 2, and It was fun playing as a girl in P3 portable. I think the best case scenario is if we have both female and male protagonist in the same history, dunno how the will do it but both genders will win if that happens imo.
i personally don't mind but i think the problem is more that male protagonist just has bigger mass appeal. duo protagonist or a gender option though will probably have a even bigger appeal though for gender option that is probably harder to implement with all the school events and stuff and rewriting all the social links so it makes sense for both gender. again me personally wouldn't mind any of these i was one of the people advocating for femce to return in p3r but from a pure marketing pov idk if having a femce as the main lead would be the right move when most of the audience is male.
While Kotone is my favorite MC, I like the idea of making a 2nd game with one of the characters of the opposite gender become the main character, like Maya. I think a Persona 5 remake with Queen or Oracle as the main character and Joker be one of the love interests.
If we do get one I want them to have their own individual and unique stories. The problem with Maya and kotone is their stories aren't their own, their stories are played off tatsuya's and Makoto's
Fun discussion video, would like more of these, fun to listen to and to imagine what P6 will be like :). Personally I do think it would be really cool to have a dual protag situation like Yakuza 0 (peak). I also really want a female protagonist in the next one, as I feel like it could have the potential to have more different social interactions, so when we meet best bro character number 5000 (ie Eikichi, Junpei, Yosuke, Ryuji) they will interact with the protagonist in a different way to make their character stand out a bit more. It was fun to see in portable how different the social interactions were as femc, I think if they do a female protag again they could get more creative with their writing. Or we will just get a male protag and 5 hot springs peeping scenes in the game instead if we are being realistic 🤡
I'm really hoping for a female protagonist or at least the option to choose to play as a female. The last three games have been the same and it would be nice to see something different.
One of my biggest problems with Persona (and SMT) is the lack of replayability & no incentive to go through NG+ aside from getting that SINGLE final persona/demon for you 100% compendium. Persona 3 Portable having a second protagonist actually helped with part of that. These games are way too long to go back through NG+ just to unlock one fusion, especially when everything else can be completed in one play-through. I'm not sure how I'd feel about having ONLY a female protagonist, but if they offered two protagonists with their own unique parts to the story, I'd be thrilled.
having a female character would offer much more replay-ability. and half the world are born female. even though 60% of persona fans are other than male that alrdy play as male protag. would be an easier game to recommend to anyone
As long as it isn't anything like Star Wars Outlaws, Intergalactic and those other female protagonists. I will be happy. Using FemC as a template would be good as well because I think she was done well. Obviously this protagonist shouldn't be a 1 to 1 copy of it but using her a template to build off of.
It can happen, it depends if having that extra work actually means sales. Example: mass effect 3 I think only 10% of players did a playthrough with femshep.
David Cast just discovered your channel its great videos your channel the channel I always got to for Persona news Fire Emblem Persona Pokémon Final Fantasy 7 to 10 are JRPG Games i really enjoy I started with P4 though its my least favorite Persona i like Innocent Sin P2 the most.
So I would be happy if Persona 6 had a female protagonist but I am realistic and say it won't happen I am even sure that Persona 6 will only have a male protagonist again and I am also sure when Persona 6 comes out many fans will ask why there is no female protagonist again and Kazuhisa Wada will come up with another excuse why it didn't work out this time
I personally wouldn't mind a female protagonist and a second protag or solo. I've been begging for this in either persona or SMT because i think it would be cool. I think outside of the very unreasonable people that will complain about it, there's will probably be some mormal people that won't like this change if it happens. Let's be honest, if Atlus gives us a female protag the romance options will be exclusively male, and given that the Persona fanbase is mostly male, some people will not be happy there's no waifus to romance.
Really hope we get one, but I'm really not a fan of the idea of having a choice at the beginning like p3p i think it's cool that each persona game has a set protagonist
With the type of game Persona is it’s best to let the player choose between a male or female protagonist. If Chinese gacha games can do it so can Atlus
Personally, I would rather they choose one or the other and stick to it. If you have the option to do both, the story will be written in a way that can be approached by either gender and that might limit the themes they cover. I think it would be better in fact to go for just a female protagonist with no male option because they would be able to explore new and fresh themes. But, there would a lot of outcry if they did that, so they probably won't go that direction. One alternative would be to focus on one character in the original release and do the opposing gender in a DLC or rerelease - In this way they could better erite the narrative to fit themes that actually make sense for that character. It also gives a more compelling reason to do a second playthrough, which would help to drive sales. So, I think they will do a male MC, with a decent chance for a female option in DLC if the fanbase is loud enough.
Also, I think it is worth noting that Metaphor introduced a voiced protagonist - a decision that Persona 6 might well follow. We could see an MC with a more defined personality. If this is the case, I think it makes a stronger argument for picking one gender and sticking to it. Otherwise swapping genders will require either a rewritten story entirely or a gender bender where there are not many differences of note.
@@gligarguy4010It unlikely. Somehow people have missed the point that Will is seen as a mix of his own character and player influence. Which is different for Persona where the MC in the main games is the player, they have avoided P5MC to speak in most games where he is the protag (As a correction of how they did the P4MC according to an interview) and P5X having a silent protag. At most I think they will have something like devil survivor where the choices come with an expression from the MC portrait rather than a voice.
I don't mind a Female Protagonist in this game or a Dual Protagonist setting: Just leave out the 1. "How to Address Pronouns" Lessons to gamers outside of the game. 2. "How to Talk to" NON-BUY-NARY people. 3. "I female with big muscles, and i am more badass than most males cause most males = bad"
Personally I prefer it when the main character is their own person, I don’t want to project myself, I wasn’t to see how Ren Amamiya or any other protag goes about their day. So I would love for us to have a female protag and her to be a singular gender option, or atleast her own person. So many gender options are just gender bend or the same character, if we have a female protag, I would like for her to be her own person. And for sure, it would be really cool to see a female main character in the series again
The series needs some kind of change. Either a female protagonist or "more adult" party members - Maybe have some party members be college students/working adults or bthe protagonist being a 3rd year student and visiting some universities to prepare for the future.
I don't mind a female MC in P6 as long as she's pretty cute and girly and also it takes place in the usual highschool setting. Male MC or Female MC, it doesn't really matter much in the end since they don't really talk or have any development as oppose to MC's that can talk and fully interact with other characters themselves but we'll see. Maybe Atlus will have a fully speaking MC that speaks out the choices(even the funny ones) that we pick out. That'll be fun.
I think female protagonist as a choice is fine, as long as it doesn't hinder game's presentation. Though, I doubt Atlus will want to raise budget just to make a character option. Realistically speaking, if we do get a female protag - she will be the only one. I wouldn't want that, since I prefer playing RPGs as male, but that isn't a deciding factor by any means. edit: With all honesty, I think having only a male protagonist is not an issue at all, and I would rather them spend time and resources making branching social links and innovative gameplay decisions. I loved daily activities in P5R, so I want the same in P6 but more, also adding some tweaks to 1 more system would be nice.
I think getting a female protagonist would be interesting and a welcome change of pace. But I also think the "waifu" culture of Persona is so intertwined with the series that Atlus would have to make a shift to allow their protagonists moving forward to date any social link of any gender. Which wouldn't be a bad thing - it's something a lot of the fanbase has been requesting for a long time. But I just don't see them having THE main protagonist being a woman and restricting their options to men, as it's been so far with their male protagonists being restricted to women. And regardless, that tiny vocal minority of the fandom would absolutely riot and start screaming "woke", both at the prospect of not having a male MC and at being able to husbando up dudes lol Regardless, Atlus main protagonists have been shifting in the direction of "less silent" protagonists. I think Ringo and Will were some great experiments, and whatever protagonist we get moving forward, male or female, will have more personality and be less passive in their interactions than past Persona protagonists have been.
If it's like persona 3 on psp where you can pick either a male or female cool. Imagine if you could romance the main male casts if you played as a female. IF it was strictly a female ONLY MC I'd probably skip it.
I would very much like to see another female protag. However, I want to see if there is any truth to this dual protag rumor cuz that also sounds interesting to me.
Which rumor do you mean exactly because of the dual protagonist where there should be a male and a female protagonist or that what Head on the Block has written where there should only be two male protagonists
@@mokonarose01 Yes, of course, but there are several rumors at first that there will be a male and a female protagonist in the game, but then it was said that there are no female protagonists but only two male protagonists
If they handle it well yes if they handle it like PSP P3 then i would rather not have it but if the Female protagonist is more like Maya from P2 i am all for it - Maya lack of voice in P2 Eternal Punishment.
You know people can dislike something you like. I’m pretty sure most people would prefer a male mc over a female mc that is literally what Katsura Hoshino thinks but he is longer q director in the studio who works on persona. So the chance of a female mc is higher tho. For me I would prefer a female mc not in persona I think it fits much better to have a female smt protag.
I would be kind of a annoyed seeing that I’m a dude and I would like to role play as a dude but i’d get over it and just name the character the female version of my name lmfao really nothing I’d cry about just prefer to be a guy romancing girls lmfao
Imma be real there's no reason why kotone shouldn't have been in p3r. The game would've been the definitive version of every p3 at that point but now there's a reason to go back to the poorly upscaled psp port. It's a shame. I hope the dual protag thing is true or we get a girl character option. Playing two different routes of the game would add so much replayability and more people might enjoy persona that way. I just don't want character creation or anything
It’s just fun to talk about, that’s all. I personally prefer just one protagonist, be it male or female, because they will stand out more unlike makoto and femc sharing a game.
I’m new to the persona fandom so I’m not the most knowledeable but to me it does seem like there is a simple solution that SHOULD please everyone. Make a dual protagonist (Pokémon’s been doing this for years and it’s not even like the personality of the main protagonist would need to be different), only have 10 or so romance options but have it be split between male and female options for romances, allow either gender protagonist to date either gender option. This appeases the people that still want same style as previous years, and it opens up the option to people that do want to experience the same sex romance options or play as someone who is most similar to their own personal experiences.
It doesn't work in Persona. In Japan gender norms are still alive and well so while the protag doesn't speak the world still react to them. And bisexual neither since the games are all about interactions so they would have to go the asexual route like Engage which was terrible. Your solution would dilute the franchise core not to mention it would be cubersome for the following spinoffs.
I would, 100%! As a cisgender gay man, dating the girls in the game doesn't bother me per say but since Atlus won't likely give us same-sex relationships, I want to be able to play as a female character to be able to acheive just that! I also think that a female protagonist can have more style than most men, so I would like to see what other differences between the 2 they could portray 🙂 Great video subject David, keep it up! 💚
I'm 99% sure that the dual protagonist "leak" is fake. The main source of the rumor has a very spotty track record at best. This more than likely is a case of someone throwing stuff at a wall and hoping it sticks. And I'm not really sure that dual protagonists would work well in a turn based game because the game would end up with way too many party members, sort of like LAD IW. People were already complaining that some characters weren't getting enough screen time in P5, this would only exacerbate the issue. Unless they both share the same party which would make the whole thing redundant. But I'm sure if Atlus really wanted to do it they would find some way to make it work
Unfortunately we live in the identity politics war so you already know what’s gonna happen especially in the west/ America 😂. ITS WOKE ITS WOKE ITS WOKE . I can see them crying now
I honestly wouldn’t mind a female protagonist only if they made them has good and funny as makoto yu and ren and hopefully the persona fandom doesn’t freak out because women 👀
I don't really care either way, it's not like the gender of the protag is crucial to the story or the themes of the games, you can take any modern persona and just "flip" them and no one would even notice
I think japan is more progressive than one might think. Like I was playing Rain Code, an anime game made by the danganronpa developers, and one of the main characters identified as genderless (non binary), and all the characters respect that. If this was made in America, you would have republicans calling it woke. Anything progressive is liberal woke. But then you have these japanese people who are not part of US politics making a non binary character because they thought it would make for an interesting character in the game. I also want to point out that japan seems to like creating interesting gothic characters. In America, people will be very judgmental towards people who dress differently, but anime has always imbraced these like "weird" character designs. Anime wouldn't be anime if the characters looked like they all wore plane cloths from Walmart. So you just never know from japan
That whole "mental age" being higher on girls than on boys thing DOES kinda sound a little iffy ngl. Like I'm not doubting it per say, just saying it sounds like an excuse someone would use to date a minor - and while I WON'T say the creators of these games would do that as I don't think that at all, I think they're fine people, I do remember them saying that they didn't include friendship paths with the girls in Persona 3 because they have never ever had a friendship with a woman, so they seemed, atleast at the time, to have very limited knowledge about girls lol so I wouldn't find it strange if they also had a misguided opinion on this other factor as well. Again, I'm not calling them creeps or anything, just possibly wrong on what they think of girls not out of malice but out of having some unintended blind spots
If teenage girls tend to have a higher mental age than male students, then just make a female student that doesn't follow the trend.
I agree.

what if we get a second protagonist that is not playable in the main game but the story and things like plot twists is connected to her, basically She being a second Aigis, and if Atlus wants it they can make a DLC like Episode Aigis, it is an easy way to still have a silent protagonist but a second protagonist that is important in the story, from a business perspective it is an easy way to make a lot of money on one specific character which clearly works with how much Aigis merchandise there is
In a perfect world we'll get to choose the mc's gender, regardless of if the dual mc rumours are true. Would also be nice if the MC is voiced, really enjoyed Ringo and Metaphor's MC being voiced!
I would like to see a choice, but i would play it either way.
For me its going to be fine, I really liked Ringo in Souls Hackers 2, and It was fun playing as a girl in P3 portable. I think the best case scenario is if we have both female and male protagonist in the same history, dunno how the will do it but both genders will win if that happens imo.
Um what do you think will happen at the anniversary event for persona 3 reload?
In the next persona game, I wish for there to be to 2 wildcard characters
I find with either or, but this time around... a female protag would be cool
i personally don't mind but i think the problem is more that male protagonist just has bigger mass appeal. duo protagonist or a gender option though will probably have a even bigger appeal though for gender option that is probably harder to implement with all the school events and stuff and rewriting all the social links so it makes sense for both gender. again me personally wouldn't mind any of these i was one of the people advocating for femce to return in p3r but from a pure marketing pov idk if having a femce as the main lead would be the right move when most of the audience is male.
While Kotone is my favorite MC, I like the idea of making a 2nd game with one of the characters of the opposite gender become the main character, like Maya. I think a Persona 5 remake with Queen or Oracle as the main character and Joker be one of the love interests.
Whatever choice Atlus makes for the Protag's gender I'm all for it and it certainly wont deter me from picking up P6
If we do get one I want them to have their own individual and unique stories. The problem with Maya and kotone is their stories aren't their own, their stories are played off tatsuya's and Makoto's
I want it to be Nanako low key
Ya no te creo David ya mucho p6 😢
id probably cry of happiness if there was a femc in p6 🙏 and let her date girls
32% played FemShep actually, which admittedly is an increase from the original release of the game.
@calebgoodman3028 that's good, is there some stat about P3 feMC?
@@peidoatomico Not that I know of, but wasn’t Kotone recommended for those that already played as Makoto though?
I’m down we had one before and she was goated so why not 🔥💯
David Cast just discovered your channel its great videos your channel the channel I always got to for Persona news Fire Emblem Persona Pokémon Final Fantasy 7 to 10 are JRPG Games i really enjoy
I started with P4 though its my least favorite Persona i like Innocent Sin P2 the most.
don’t fix what’s not broken
Yeah I Rather have both male and female protagonists to be honest.
Considering how much I like the dating sim aspect of some games like Persona, I would be overjoyed to be able to date the male cast of a Persona game
Agreed with the first comment, disagree with the second. I hate voiced MCs in RPGs.
I don't mind a Female Protagonist in this game or a Dual Protagonist setting: Just leave out the
Yeah I always hate self insert’s l
I'm kinda hoping it does....
And regardless, that tiny vocal minority of the fandom would absolutely riot and start screaming "woke", both at the prospect of not having a male MC and at being able to husbando up dudes lol
Regardless, Atlus main protagonists have been shifting in the direction of "less silent" protagonists.
@andreasbutkowski1412 the dual protag rumor
At this point I’m more excited for the next metaphor than p6 lol
We already had one so it shouldn't be an issue
itll probably end up being an option like p3p bc they know their target audience is mostly guys anyway
100% down for a female protag, just don't want another persona 3 portable situation. Have there own story
I don’t think it matters.
Easy answer, the un-woke mob will rant for a month
You know people can dislike something you like. I’m pretty sure most people would prefer a male mc over a female mc that is literally what Katsura Hoshino thinks but he is longer q director in the studio who works on persona. So the chance of a female mc is higher tho. For me I would prefer a female mc not in persona I think it fits much better to have a female smt protag.
Woke they/thems will be triggered by normal people’s opinions for a month
@@dinosaur_monkeythey/thems are normal people, maybe rewrite your comment to not make you sound like a bigoted asshole
@@dinosaur_monkeyNormal people applies to both groups and not a specific group.

A bunch of babies on the internet will whine. But it would be great. They should just give us the option. Why not?
I would be kind of a annoyed seeing that I’m a dude and I would like to role play as a dude but i’d get over it and just name the character the female version of my name lmfao really nothing I’d cry about just prefer to be a guy romancing girls lmfao
I highly doubt we will get a female main character in P6.....or most other future Megaten games in general.
Its a remake of the original persona 3 not portable, thats why she isnt in it
I think you mean HAS! the game isn't out yet. Also, WHO CARES? Does it impact the game? Not really.
Its kind of funny to see these videos after the P3R debacle and why protags are male interviews. Pure cope.
Yeah not happening i can 100% bet on it 😂
Would you like to see a female protagonist in Persona 6?
I would, 100%!
As a cisgender gay man, dating the girls in the game doesn't bother me per say but since Atlus won't likely give us same-sex relationships, I want to be able to play as a female character to be able to acheive just that!
I also think that a female protagonist can have more style than most men, so I would like to see what other differences between the 2 they could portray 🙂
Great video subject David, keep it up! 💚
@lovybaril1190 thank you!! 🥺🙏
i personally would like to see it but don't think it will happen at least not as the only lead
Honestly as a man i wouldnt care either way
I’d be fine with a female protag as long as they let me romance other women 😂
I can see them crying now
What would excite me more is having older main characters, maybe in like college or something.
If they did a female Mc I hope they make her "cool" like the male mcs instead of going the "cute" waifu bait route
Hopefully Not.
why not
@@pinkloverpreyMost of the fanbase is male.
@@pinkloverpreywhy cater to the minority?

Meh
A Female Protagonist but in a gender neutral not stereotype like a Female Minato
Persona 2 would like to have a word about that.
@@calebgoodman3028 I didn't play P2 so that's why I wrote "modern persona" meanning 3 and onward.
@@chinpokomon Oh my mistake.
I’m not looking forward to a persona with a female leader only…
I think japan is more progressive than one might think.
"bRo PeRsOnA hAs GoNe WOKE!!! HSJDJFBRJRB"
Fr tho it would be cool to see again
pre rent free is crazy
You do know these characters are pixels on a screen right?
Lol people still taking that quote of never had friendship with women serious . It was a joke and people keep it spreading it
I'm a straight girl that wants to date dudes in these games for once that aren't a 10 year old Ken. PLEASE ATLUS I"M THIRSTY
You do realise there was other options right?
