    The utilization of after-tax money and tax-free growth makes opening a Roth IRA very advantageous. Through a careful guidance of my FA, I did not pay taxes on my withdrawals of $2.86 million when I retired.

      I don't regret the numerous financial mistakes I've made in the past since I've learnt from them. But the biggest one was planning my finances without consulting with a licensed financial counsel.

      @maryHenokNft 2 месяца назад +3

      Indeed, I did make use of a financial counselor. As I get closer to retirement, their advice has been really helpful. I thought compound interest on index funds wouldn't be sufficient because I started late. It's amusing how I've done better than colleagues who have more years of investment experience. I've profited more than $886k tax free.

      I started investing in the stock market because of dividends. What matters, in my opinion, is that if you invest and earn more money in addition to dividends, you will be able to live off of dividends without selling. It implies that you can pass that on to your children, giving them a head start in life. I've invested over $600k in dividend stocks over the years; I continue to buy more today and will continue to do so until the price lowers even further.

      It's always inspiring to hear from a veteran investor who has weathered the storm and come out on top. When your portfolio turns from green to red, it might be unsettling, but if you have invested in great companies, you should just keep adding to them and stick with your plan.

      Hi! I am curious about the last part regarding capital gains which I haven’t yet fully grasped. If I interpreted her correctly at 6:14; she stated that individuals didn’t have to pay any taxes if the capital gains earned was less than $44,625 dollars for 2023. I keep reading that individuals have to pay taxes on capital gains depending on what tax bracket you are currently in. That taxes are based on whether the capital gains are short term vs long term investments and NOT based on the total amount of capital gains earned per year. if someone is on the 24% tax bracket then they would have to pay 15% on their capital gains for long term investments vs 24% if the capital gains were from short term investments. she stated on this video that there would be no taxes on capital gains if the total amount earned is less than $44,625 dollars for 2023? Is that true? Just want to make sure I understood this part correctly. Thanks.

    • @kimberlychin1996
      @kimberlychin1996 4 месяца назад

      @@Mizzliz2006 so you don’t have to pay any taxes if you ONLY had capital gains up to $44,625. So let’s say in 2023, you don’t have a job but you cashed out your stocks and the long term capital gains = 44,625. No tax on that.
      If you’re making money at a job and made say 20k, then your 20k from your job is taxed at 10%/12% whatever tax bracket, next long term cap gains of 24,265 is taxed at 0% and next 20k of LTCG is taxed at 15%.
      So yes, you are right. You do have to pay taxes of 15% on LTCG if you’re in the 24% tax bracket. That’s why it’s beneficial for people to hold onto their cap gain earnings until they’re in semi-retirement (aka when Vivian Tu hits her FU number, she stops working and just takes money out of her stocks, thus only paying 0% in taxes on the first 44k, 15% on the next bracket, and so on).
      I would check out nerdwallet. They have a great calculation.

      @@Mizzliz2006no tax on long-term captial gains if your TOTAL income for the year (not just your investments) is under $47,206. If your TOTAL annual income is between $47,206 to $518,900, then you pay 15% for long-term capital gains. Unfortunately, short-term capital gains tax is still at your normal tax bracket. If you want to benefit from the lower tax rates for long-term capital gains, you need to hold the investment for at least one year. Ie, I make a few hundred dollars a month on the side trading options contracts, but this is taxed at my normal tax bracket. I recently sold some stocks and index funds that i had for over 1 year, so I only paid 15% on those capital gains.

    *I enjoyed this content so much. I recently had a conversation like this with a friend and I told him to try and diversify hit flow and not have the money sitting down. He was considering real estate as the example Grant mentioned but I told him to try out the financial market. Stocks like Nvidia, Apple, and some EV stocks were good picks especially on the long run. Who trades the financial market?*

    I think i started an index fund but how do I know if I set up a diversified portfolio?

    • @TheChungKids
      @TheChungKids 4 месяца назад

      Index funds are great for long term investments. Just make sure you're investing in low cost funds. If you're young and around 30 years away from retirement, you could just choose something like the Fidelity or Vanguard's S&P 500 and not worry about it. I would recommend investing at least the match amount for your employer's 401k/403b, but if your employer doesn't match, try to max out your Roth IRA before putting money into your 401k.

    • @TheChungKids
      @TheChungKids 4 месяца назад

      Also, if you do not want feel comfortable with converting a portion of your investments into bonds etc as you get closer to retirement, you could choose a 'target date fund' that does all of the management for you, but you would lose out on the additional growth that you would get from investing long term into something like the S&P 500.

    Does the capital gain tax of 15% is paid if I make more the 47k on investments alone? Regardless of what I make as a salary?
    Let’s say I pay taxes on a 100k/year salary, but I also made 30k that year in capital gains, then I won’t pay ANY taxes on this 30k???

    • @thanhvuong4816
      @thanhvuong4816 4 месяца назад

      The 47k cap is the total taxable income that includes your w2 salary as well. Lets say if your capital gain is 30k and that is the only source of income you had in 2023, then you won't pay any taxes.

    American tax payers should group together and withhold all tax payments until our demands are met:
    1: Abolishment of the current reporting systems utilized. All numbers are transparently displayed
    2: Employers face Federal prison for not sending appropriate tax documentation via certified mail.
    3: A three way digital authentication system between workers, employers, and the IRS.
    4: Forgiving payment plans for tax payers to pay their tax burden.
    5: Peoples and organizations with incomes greater than $300,000.00 USD paying larger tax burdens.
