    Giant Grenadiers are technically Grenade Troopers per code, but no Grenadier. Grenadiers resist Ranged and have negative multipliers vs all cav, they are designed to combat infantry mainly. The GG are a musk unit, best compared with the Mexican Soldado or the heavily upgraded Maltese Sentinel.
    And yeah, available mercenaries are shared among all players, so you can see what to expect if you hover over the tavern build icon

      Yeah, GG have a melee cav multiplier wich means it counters cav like a musketeer and its not weak to them like a gren wich have a negative multiplier...

    Giant Grenadiers are nothing like regular grenadiers. They aren't particularly strong against infantry but excel against cavalry. They lack high range resistance and only have ordinary melee resistance. Additionally, they don't have the negative multipliers that normal grenadiers suffer from. Essentially, they are like Soldados with added AoE but less HP.

    Another fun fact about Giant Grenadiers is that they are visibly taller than all other infantry. Like, compare them side by side to a regular unit they're taller by a head.

    Compared to the Highlanders, Fusiliers are more expensive, squishier, have worse resist, and for all these, they get like 10 more damage and 50% multiplier against heavy cav, and 0.75 speed.
    There is no comparison to the Highlander, especially if they are British Black Watch.

    Giant Grenadiers are, like grenadiers were since the 18th century, a heavy infantry unit. They're basically elite musketeers. Ingame they counter cav and get countered by skirms, the exact opposite of grenadiers ingame. For some reason they also have a shotgun at range, the only thing they have in common with the regular grenadiers is the siege attack.

    Highlanders have 40% Hand Resist vs Fusiliers 10% Hand Resist.
    HL 400hp vs FS 300hp
    HL Hand Attack 32 vs FS 35 (Same Multipliers)
    HL 200c vs FS 300c
    HL 4 speed vs FS 5 Speed
    HL 63 Ranged Attack vs FS 70, ( FS have 1.5x vs Cav, 1.3x vs Shock Infantry)
    HL 40 Siege Attack vs FS 60 Siege Attack
    HL Train in 40 sec vs FS in 50 Sec
    So the question is would I rather have 2 FS or 3 HL.
    I personally would rather have the 3 HL. If FS had 40% Hand Resist I would take them, but that's a huge difference to me.

    Idk what moonshine is on about. Giant Grenadiers are obviously a hybrid: In range and melee they act as a musketeer. Their splash damage is more reminiscent of a grenadier though and especially their siege attack, where they also literally use grenades. Besides..there unit itself is a grenadier, besides any in game unit types...

    The Hand Mortar Siege Unit Multiplier, makes it seem even useful in niche situations now too... any grens, mantlets, etc.

    Hot take that is not that hot actually. Agent, assasins cards, etc, should not be shipments but techs researchable on the church. You never know when an opponent will go full merc, so you never included those cards in your deck, but when you need them is too late since you have already pick up a deck

    Fusiliers. Always. They are always this fast moving heavy infantry not just in this game but in other games as well. They hit like a truck and paired with a fast moving artillery piece they are basically like a spear piercing through enemy formations.
    Ever played the Napoleanic Era mod for the original AOE3? Most of the units for European civs like Swedes etc. are taken from it as well as other things. In it Fusiliers are regularly trained infantry that march really fast. Not sure why AOE3 doesn't acknowledge the mod when AOE2 acknowledges the Forgotten Empires team 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Well FE are the ones working on both AOE2 and AOE3, where as the mod team for the Napoleonic Era is not working on AOE3. So of course FE they will acknowledge their own work, but they have no reason to acknowledge the work of the mod team.
      The other issue is there are several mods they bothered from, so who do you credit?
      There is also the Age of Liberty mod

      @@micahbonewell5994 The reason why I am advocating for this particular mod is well, if you actually thoroughly played it, you would appreciate it being almost this perfect mod that is neither minor to be classified as an update, and not totally an overhaul to be completely distinct from the original game. Things like leather cannons, horse grenadiers, Drabants, torps, tents and field hospitals and many other things, you could see directly being incorporated in this game (Malta, Sweden etc.). So I just found it very intriguing. Especially since I do not know how much of the new things in DE are original additions and how much of them are "inspired".
      And I am afraid I have not played the Age of Liberty mod.

      ​@@Harsh12351 Wars* of Liberty mod is great. It has so many mechanics and gimmicks and so many units to use. I believe that the DE team are heavily inspired by it in some units but in other cases, they just use unit models. WoL even has an Age VI, where you advance to the Great War era and you can make tanks, dreadnoughts and even aircraft

      @@dimitrisoikonomou3568 But I think having tanks and all breaks the immersion especially given the era the game is set in. I suppose it would be closer to Rise of Nation or Civs for that matter. NE on the other hand actually focuses on the hinterland European Civs that actually were engaged in global conflict like the 7 years war etc. Just my take.

    Highlanders better than fusiliers.
    Honestly, the majority of mercs are quite bad, in some cases like swedes mercs, dutch mercs and german mercs there can be a few that can be decently good, or in some cases might be good; highlanders are one of the few mercs imo that are decent to good because they manage to be an equivalent to musks of good musks civs. Meanwhile fusilier for example might be decent in early to mid game but not so much, cause they cost so much so they are not that worth it really imo; you were comparing them and i think both of them cost 2 pop, but fusiliers cost 50% more, thats huge hahaha

    Giant grens are literally like the Akans, musk with an AoE. I would say grens are units that deal AoE siege damage

      Except giant grenadiers do benefit from grenadier upgrades and also can deal siege damage at 12 range Instead of 6

    Northern refugees with double village hasn't been good for a while in general let alone trying to ff.
    Also sending 2 age 1 shipments with no tp as china and trying to age up is literally suicide. Either do the standard tea export+ tp into 700coin age up or extended age 2 aggression with northern refugees 2 villages.
    The card's best use has long been to send it later in the game; similar to irish immigrants for USA.

      Irish immigrants got nerfed though so it sends max 6 vils, I no longer think it's worth it.

    Highlander are better in general and Fusiliers are better against cav heavy opponents.

      @@lars9925 I would think the opposite. Because Fusiliers have a higher attack and are faster than other heavy infantry, one can attack-move and even chase down skirmishers etc. that are a natural counter to them. Of course they would lose to Jaegers, but with just a few leather canons in the mix they're almost unstoppable, unless you bring in Chinese flamethrowers 😡

      Well, it can't be the opposite. Fusiliers are definitely better against cavalry; they have a 1.5 ranged multiplier for that, while Highlanders only have the standard melee multiplier that Fusiliers also possess.
      In general, if you have some cannons in the mix, the performance against light infantry is negligible. I agree that speed has value, but there's only a 1-point difference (5 speed vs. 4 speed). On the other hand, Highlanders have 100 more HP and 40% melee resistance compared to just 10% melee resistanc for Fusiliers. Highlanders are tanks.
      In specific circumstances, speed might be the more important factor, but in most battles, I think a lot of HP is more valuable.
