I recognize Marla having lots of tears in he voice from the moment she talks about the person who had cleaning dishes as a punishment as a kid. I have tears in my eyes when Marla says that she loves me too. Fact is, I have been fluttering and already a lot of what she says has stuck with me, I am dressed to lace up shoes for the second time ever since I started 3 years ago and I have just eaten my lunch in time and have already drank some water and I learn to take care day by day. Thank you Mar

The one thing about flylady that works for me where other systems don't is the realization that less is more. I recently had my fifth baby girl and realized I couldn't do it alone and came back to flylady. My house reached an all time level of embarrassment. I combined her wisdom with Brene Brown's studies of shame and perfectionism and carol Tuttles child whisperer and am slowly gaining back control of my emotions, my home, and my parenting skills. My problem is that I always want it to be perfect, and right now. When I came back to remembering that it takes time to bring it back out of chaos, one step at a time, a few fifteen minute sessions of rushing to pick up a small corner, and less demands and more fun with my kids is making the home calmer and less guilt prone. Those who are saying they can't do this because they have kids are not understanding her concepts. This program is meant for the households overpopulated with children, the struggling workers and sahm's who are overwhelmed and swimming in more than they can handle.

Marla, a friend introduced your site to me six years ago. It is without exaggeration that I say that you have changed my life and my home. I just viewed this video and was grinning from ear to ear. Thank you for bearing the light of this message. My husband and I have just gone through a major household downsizing, and your routines and outlook kept us at it without despair. This week, I am at my parents' house helping my mom clear out a back room that's been a catchall for years. No tears.

I'm a newborn flyer here. Your program has been the missing puzzle piece that I've been looking for my whole life. I have found even in just the few days that I have been starting with the baby steps peace finally in my home and Within Myself. You hit the nail on the head about perfection never attsined. We are setting ourselves up for failure when we try for perfection in our everyday lives. Your program is setting us free from this trap. I cannot wait to learn all 31 baby steps and keep moving forward. Thank you so much.

I'm sure that I am very late to learning about the flylady system, but I so appreciate the encouragement I've received from the flylady. Like many women I work outside of the home as well as inside of my home. My Mom used to say that she had two jobs---one that paid the bills (because she was a single parent and 100% responsible for our household) and the other one that kept the house functioning. I was feeling such a huge amount of overwhelm and I think this turned into some resentment because I work about 60 hours a week and I'm exhausted when I come home. My attitude wasn't the best because I also struggle with Rheumatoid arthritis which causes me to have nearly non-stop pain. Somehow flylady came up in my youtube feed and I was curious, so I watched three very short videos and I began to feel better. I realized that my irritability from having to work 60 hours a week and also clean my home wasn't going to change and that I needed to deal with my perfectionism as well. I really needed to stop putting so much pressure on myself and talk back to the inner critic in my head! In just a few days I decided that every day when I come home to face the damage in my home that I would try to play a different narrative. Now I have to tell myself things like, "yes, the kitchen is in disarray, but I can DECIDE to SLOOOOOOOOOW DOWN and do ONE THING at a time. When my feet hurt, I get a chair and sit down at the sink for a few minutes and this helps. I realized that no matter how bad I feel, I cannot feel sorry for myself or make excuses. So, I decided to start with my sink, but I've chosen to practice this for 30 days instead of just a few days or a week. When I go into the kitchen I take my cell phone and put it on my favorite music, take everything out of the sink and follow flylady's instructions. This probably sounds crazy, but I actually put a beautiful little lamp right above the sink on the window sill because I thought it would be great to be able to do the dishes without turning the really bright kitchen light on. I also put a few candles up there to give myself something pretty to look at and to help me to at least try to enjoy the moment a bit more. I don't know if this will work for me long-term, but I'm ready to try!

Thank you! I just realized something about my "issues" beginning with the dishes and any housework for that matter! When my sister and I were kids, and WERE NOT allowed to do chores, we would sometimes try and do them anyway, but to no avail. My mom used to yell at us, and my dad for "letting us" do dishes or housework because it always made more work for her because she had to redo everything we did!! She literally used to grab every dish, glass, piece of silverware out of the cabinets and angrily toss them ALL in the sink and grumble about how much more work this is because now she has to do ALL OF THE DISHES because she doesn't know which ones we washed. After about 5 or 6 times of that, we never touched another dish again. And the rest of the housework, well, not good enough to do a good job, so I give up, gave up, and still have a cluttered, dusty house with horrible feelings inside still. I'm 48 and still can't do housework without horrible feelings, so I do the minimum, which is not enough.

Anne Marie Voegeli: OMG, I never thought anyone else "wasn't allowed" to help! Then at other times I was given tasks that were "too big" for my age. And once I was given a small task I joyfully completed in 15 minutes... only to be angrily told, when I teported it done, "No, you didn't!"... without any inspection. So I went back and spent 2 hours painstakingly re-doing a 15-minute job that was already finished, going over and over the same area. Now I just procrastinate and clutter is literally up to the ceiling in some places. It is just so hard to get started.

@@Sunny-sy2xl -- You are definitely not alone. I see my original comment was 6 years ago, and I'm still working hard to get myself decluttered. However, in the past several weeks, I have completely decluttered all of my "now 17 year old"s toys. I am bagging up the last batch right now to give to a friend for her younger son. I couldn't bring myself to throw away any of his todays since he was born because of the memories attached to them FOR ME. How much I enjoyed playing with him during different stages of his growing up years. Now, I finally have worked mentally and emotionally hard on this, and know the memories I still have. I don't need the plastic toys or stuffed animals around to remind me. I did save a very few select items, very few. The rest I have taken pictures with the sweetest memories attached, and giving those toys away. Some did end up in the actual garbage because they were broken or missing pieces. I am now 55 and am finally able to purge without guilt!!! It was a long road, but I'm so happy to be here!!!!

@@anng.4542 -- I thought the same thing, not being allowed to help. Thank you for sharing your story with me!! Even in this situation from childhood, there are more people like us! How are you doing today? Getting better at decluttering anything? I am FINALLY now doing it. I started with my son's toys. He is 17 now. And that was the hardest spot to start. I have worked through the emotions of all the toys, and now am passing them along to a friend with a couple smaller boys. Some items had to be thrown out, but most I'm able to give away. And I took pictures of some I didn't want to forget about, and kept literally just a few small items. I'm finally feeling things will only go up from here!!

I'm really having a hard time right now getting started.. I started in the middle of Zone 2 last week..Now I'm in Zone 3 this week...I'm really trying hard to get all this done...I have RSD I'm used to be on top of my house white glove before my disease...I want that back I do need Major declutter done..After 17 years of so many phases of this disease it has gotten bad around here...Hubby is no help..I'm trying to get in board and getting very upset with my self and feeling so distressed 😩 I had to move my mother out of a one bedrooms apartment from a 150' ft room Into a another nursing area.. All of her packed up stuff is in my garage now!!! I feel so stressed as I can't seem to get my daily chores done and the zones start RSD and get my mother settled in her nursing home with my disease.. I have to pace myself and I guess I'm doing this all wrong as I'm doing things just so slowly... Maybe I'm expecting to much of myself on the first 2 weeks?? Today is the last day of Zone 3 and I Got the bathroom sink cleaned the shelf in the laundry room half decluttered I had already cleaned the washer and dryer off last week before starting this program... Do you have any advice for me?? As to why I feel like I can't get going and understand all this?? Am I expecting to much to soon? Should I be happy with what I did do instead of stressing what I didn't get done? I'm so confused be glad when she's settled!! Do you have any advice as to what to do with your mothers stuff inbthe Garage besides holding it in boxes for her? I'm so tired of holding parents stuff my house is full of my husband's parents stuff we are still waiting after 3 yrs for the Attorney to finalize the estate so we can move boxes even out from in front of the doorway!! No one can get in without walking by boxes day in and out!! Our closets are full we refuse to waste money on a storage for these things we don't want Although we can't get rid of legally...Thx for any and all advice FlyBaby Shey PS I just want my home we moved into 4 years ago that same year we lost my husband's father the next year was his mother both in November..The very next year in my 50th Birthday I was forced to put my mother in a nursing home in 24 hours...My husband is the executor to the estate..We are holding way to much crap!! It's causing major problems with our relationship!!!

I agree 100% with you. It sounds like I am making excuses but I get severe debilitating migraines - so bad I am actually on disability. My hubby was raised by hoarders. I know what it's like to live clean and orderly, because I grew up that way. My oldest is in college now, and I just have 2 in high school. Because of my headaches I never properly taught the kids to clean. Everything has spun out of control. I'll clean the sink and do good a few days and get sick, and we are back to square 1.

Praying for your migraines. I have had them since I was 7, but was not diagnosed till
I was 31. Learn your triggers and avoid them, if possible, except those caused by things like barometric pressure changes with thunderstorms. I have found that taking 4 100 mg. CoQ10 capsules help to stop or reduce my migraines better than strong Rxs with unwanted side effects or OTC products like Advil Migraine or Excedrin migraine. A friend recommended turmeric as helping hers, as it reduces inflammation. Hope you can find something that helps reduce yours, too.

Well first his neighbor came and said- Don't you want to go with us??? and theMan said no...U all go on, I'll be fine. I'know when it's time.& the neighbor just shrugged and left him there. And then the man decided to go on up to the neighborhood hardware store-& the people there were making plans to go to higher ground- they pleaded for him to go with them. "No" he said.
