"My Messiah is porcelain" is a massive double: Both the fragile, easily-chipped, often hollow (like one of those touristy porcelain figurines of whichever saint is being sold in holy places) but also 'praying to the porcelain god' is a euphemism for vomiting - and that is also a kind of religious experience when you are so utterly disposessed of control that sometimes all you can do is pray. Let's not forget Ren is both agnostic and had suffered from his illness for many _many_ years. Many of the treatments made him violently ill. And also, as disgusting as it may seem, the act of vomiting is a survival mechanism the body uses to evacuate dangerous or poisonous substances. Get rid of whatever's still in the stomach before it too gets into the bloodstream. It is a _life-saving_ mechanism of the human body. A 'messiah'. Is there yet another way of interpreting that imagery? I'd love to hear 'em!
Can’t remember what interview it was in maybe the one Knox did but the first year of diagnosed wrongly was so excruciatingly painful physically and mentally that he told his mom if there’s no resolution in the upcoming year he won’t be able to stand the torture any longer! Another words I will use all my willpower to holdout one more year but that’s it. I don’t know the timeline exactly but Joe committed suicide then Ren writes him a tribute song and plays it for his mom and first hand witnesses the destruction his suicide did on those around him. He decided he just couldn’t do that to his family and he witnessed what happened to McKay’s family after he drowned. Even though not suicide, same time line , same destruction of innocent family members. So this man held out 8 Fckn years! No doubt in my mind he would have taken his life if his best friend didn’t. So spooky and weird but we’re so thankful you’re here to share your beautiful amazing music and art with us all
I think he also talks about it in the stream clip with some BTS to Hi Ren where he sheds a few tears. This one ruclips.net/video/M1Na3nQV_8Q/видео.htmlsi=HFO5QOSlrc4OxCjv
I love that he manages to ask universal questions about something as unique as faith. He asks hard questions without being disrespectful or exclusive. There's space for everyone to think about the answers that suit them. A Buddhist friend once told me that children who die before they are born are (in his faith) souls who need to be loved unconditionally just once more before they reach Nirvana. That has always felt like a bittersweet but beautiful way to answer.
Hey my man, been a minute since I popped in to comment, been following your channel since your first time on BP's channel, and I've always enjoyed your reactions, but this one here just reinforced why you're a real one. Besides the fact that music visibly moves you like few reactors I've seen, I especially love the ones like this video. I'm agnostic myself, but I have no problem if faith in a higher power brings people the inner peace and fulfillment so many are looking for in life. Thing is, I've seen a bunch of reactions to this song, and too many so called "people of faith", attempt to answer the questions Ren is asking and tell the viewer about their deep understanding of the bible or holy text along with the answers they believe Ren is seeking. Not you though, I loved the fact that you simply sat back and said....those are very good and fair questions, and wow could they be answered a bunch of different ways for a lot of different people. I wish more people of faith out there had your integrity and open mind and that spirit of understanding we're all built different, but all share the human experience, and that life is too short to bicker over the minor details. Thanks for being you my friend, take care!! ✌️💚
REN has never said he was atheist…he sometimes says he is agnostic. His music is full of religious imagery and references to God and the question of faith. It’s obvious that he thinks and feels these things in some very profound ways. If he were an atheist he would write the whole idea of faith and God off but he doesn’t. He ha expressed anger in songs like Masochist, despair in Lost all faith, questioning in Dear God and hope in Hi Ren. He understands that there is something of significance to humanity in the reality of God that cannot be easily dismissed or disregarded. He has been to hell and back. I think he knows there is Healing and redemption in suffering. He uses his pain and his enormous talent to heal himself and to help others. His art brings out his best self, his giving and good self and that is a real testimony. He has said his relationship with God has been tumultuous, it’s that way for many of us. As humans we have to experience darkness to see the light. He doesn’t just make you feel he also makes you think. He is not asking anyone to feel or think or believe a certain way. Despite all his trials and tribulations he never gave up. His love of life and his creative passion persisted, this is hope in living color and it is beautiful. His ability to speak to the most difficult things about the human condition comes out of his pain and struggle…would he be the same artist without it? For me Ren is a gift from God and I appreciate him so so much.🙏🏽✌🏽🫶🏽
This is one of my favorite tracks. I think it addresses a lot of questions and concerns that people have often. Most people just discuss them so openly. Can't wait to get your take on it.
Especially in Wales where fine porcelain figurines, that are utterly fragile are frequently found in China cabinets, particularly from his parents and grandparents generation.
Yeah, but we all know how much Ren loves his doubles. I agree with the sentiment that porcelain is fragile but with all the medications, treatments etc Ren was going through, he more than likely had to deal with a fair amount of vomiting too...
I agree with the I’ll part but toilet bowls aren’t known for their fragility although they are made of porcelain, it’s really thick porcelain designed to take the weight of very heavy people.
I know that even though Ren is having some physical, and mental relief and success as an artist he has a great deal of empathy for the average person with a chronic illness , who has not been lucky enough to have found relief. Those who live and eventually die without any relief . Which leaves him with the question , why ?
Ren makes us lift our heads up from our phones, from our rat-life existence, from all life's distractions, and think about the really important things. Thank you Ren
Me too. It's just heartbreaking. Especially now that I know that his friend Callum drowned accidentally just 6 months after Joe passed away & Ren was only 21 at the time- to lose 2 of your best friends so young & so close together is soul-destroying... I literally can't listen to suicide- it tears me apart- I ugly cry every. Single. Time I listen to it...
Hi Joe I lost my son 33 years ago he was 11years old.I respect all humans have the right to believe what they believe but I struggle to find a reason why? I can not find the answer 😢
Equating being sick with porcelain is an American thing which doesn't exist in the UK. At least, not to my knowledge and I've been in the UK for all of my 70+ years. Two lines before that is mentioned, he says, "my faith it is paper thin", so it's pretty safe to infer that the two lines are meant to have similar meanings, and that's NOT being sick, lol. Fine porcelain is a type of expensive pottery which is easily broken.
Great reaction as usual! Vader was always my favourite character as well. Until the prequels came along that is. Anakin slaughtering children ruined his redemption in my eyes. He didn't deserve redemption in my eyes after that. Insofar as this song, Ren may be agnostic, but it seems God has been responding positively to him.
If you listen to REN’s music, whilst he professes Aethism, I cannot thing of a another artist who has as much verbal iconography in their lyrics. Whatever his beliefs may be be, he is utterly immersed in biblical references, to the extent that it is without doubt, one of the most profound influences in his life and his writing.

He says “my body purges” in Suic!de so it’s definitely both. I think he’s now down to 5 items he can eat. 😢
Athiest here. All about human behavior. I agree 💯! Just be a goo being!!!
Like Rimuru!

Omg, how did I miss this! Mind blown and I am a Philosopher! That is all I do!
Thank you we are and strong and blessed but he have to find our own way

Agnostics ARE athiests- its just not as strong a word for it. One just aserts confidence in it the other dosnt- but still does NOT believe in a god.
@@elevown I disagree You don’t write letters to something you know doesn’t exist for one thing. But you have the right to be wrong.
This is one of my favorite tracks. I think it addresses a lot of questions and concerns that people have often. Most people just discuss them so openly. Can't wait to get your take on it.
He’s not talking about throwing up. Porcelain is fragile.
Especially in Wales where fine porcelain figurines, that are utterly fragile are frequently found in China cabinets, particularly from his parents and grandparents generation.
Since it's Ren, I don't think it's a stretch to say it's both.
Yeah, but we all know how much Ren loves his doubles. I agree with the sentiment that porcelain is fragile but with all the medications, treatments etc Ren was going through, he more than likely had to deal with a fair amount of vomiting too...
I think it was his belief in God is fragile like porcelain

New Tom MacDonald song & video Friday! He said it’s 10 minutes long! 😲
I think you mean you prefer god over religion!
Me too!!!
I am a believer, who believes...in us!
(...and god, which is not a contradiction, but the same.)
