It's surreal seeing the journey Merphy has been on since 2020. From starting manga to reading One Piece and becoming so engrossed into the medium. It's great to see.
I love that you pointed out Toriyama’s art in DB/DBZ. He was an absolute MASTER at portraying action in an easy to follow way. I didn’t realize how great he was until I read other manga and was so confused as to what was happening during action scenes.
My top 10 faves 1. One Piece 2. Kingdom (close to number one but OP has more variety in tones) 3. Vagabond 4. Hunter x Hunter 5. Berserk 6. Vinland Saga 7. Jojo's Bizzare Adventure (especially part 7) 8. Yu Yu Hakusho (YYH English Dub is my favorite anime ever. Like it even more the HxH manga) 9. Shaman King (mostly due to nostalgia but it has underrated philosophical themes as well) 10.Hajime No Ippo
yu yu hakusho is a gem. Imo it has the highest highs I’ve seen in any shonen anime to date, some of the moments are unparalleled. That cave fight against sensui and yusuke is one of the most emotionally charged scenes I’ve seen in an anime, even more than one piece due to how dark that arc as a whole has been. It’s a masterclass in character work that I think is ironically only matched but togashi’s other work, hxh and some scenes in jojo.
If you love Jojo humor then Golden Kamuy is the manga/anime for you. It has insane and funy "WHAT?????" moments. AND despite the absurd humor, just like Jojo it has many moments that will make you emotional
I second the Chainsaw Man recommendation. It is one of the most tragic stories, yet very memorable and completely misrepresented by many others. People used to refer to it as the "boob manga" but that does not do it justice at all. Denji, the main character, is searching for love and acceptance. And he is very stunted emotionally and mentally because of his upbringing.
@@devanshisharma2447 I think their more than different enough that they shouldn't be compared. Their both incredible and have very different purposes for being written. Am glad to see some Claymore love though!
Personally this current arc of hxh, when you digest everything about it, it just blows Yorknew out the water, its like heaven and earth in terms of quality, writing and so much more, it needs just a bit more, and it needs to nail the climax to surpass something like chimera ants imo. Just a masterpiece of a manga and my number 1 ez.
My manga reccs for Merph: - Tokyo Ghoul (has a bad rep cuz of the terrible anime adaptation but the manga is incredible and up there with the best) - deals with the struggle of humans living in a world where they're being hunted by Ghouls, and the struggle of Ghouls trying to find a way to coexist with humans while needing them for sustinance. So in that way it's similar to AOT even thought they're very different series - My Dearest Self With Malice Aforethought - psychological mystery following the son of a serial killer trying to live a normal student life despite who his father is, until one day he wakes up with no recollection of the past 3 days and slowly discovers what he has been up to during that time. I know you're not a fan of amnesia tropes but this series does is SO well you gotta check it out
if you want an easy suggestion for next year, just talk about all the stuff you dropped and ask the comments to encourage you to pick one of them back up. gives something a second chance and gives everyone the chance to influence the future so to speak
I remember being so worried before you started Jojo's lmao, seeing it as your second favorite is just surreal. I really think Araki is a genius, probably my biggest inspiration as an artist and writer. You should read Land of the Lustrous btw (or at least watch the first season of the anime), it feels like a more mature and more consistent version (though not necessarily better) of attack on titan to me, despite being very different from that series at the same time
I always appreciate when Dragon Ball gets the attention it deserves. I feel like so many people nowadays look over it when discussing the best manga/anime. It’s not perfect by any means, but it is so much better than people usually give it credit for.
Man I'd love for Merphy to read Land of the Lustrous. The anime is is phenomenal but only covers half of the manga but manga is finished and the story is immaculate.
Land of the Lustrous is the kind of story where you don't know where it's going at all. Phos is one of the best written main characters I've ever seen. There are some absolutely memorable manga panels that are breathtaking.
I didn't know merphy from the start of mangas journey but i was there for the transition towards a full mangas enjoyer and it was a great experience Many more to come for you ( the day you start to read some Light novels will be a day to be remembered )
Merphy I BEG you to add Yotsuba To to your TBR! It’s the best little slice of life manga about a wee girl and her dad - it’s what convinced me to become a father when I was on the fence about it. I think as a fellow parent (if I’m not mistaken) you’d dig it a lot!
Im shocked she didnt include dungeon meshi maybe she didnt get far enough. Berserk i wish fans would send her a edited version and remove the stuff she hates. People exaggerate how dark it is atleast in the fact that series she read on her book channel were way more. Of course its up to her but as someone who has experienced the turn from someone saying i will never read that to its my favorite cause they kept hearing (my friend) how its so dark and the first manga panel etc...The first arc she likely read manga wise doesnt at all showcase the story. I think someone showing her the anime would work and remove the violent stuff but she's so set on never reading it that nothing will change her mind. Honestly one piece has some dark sections and people just hand wave it. Oh well.
Someone's probably already recommended this, but Sakamoto Days action sequences and fight scenes are some of the most beautiful and easy to follow I've read in a while. It's very dynamic but not at the cost of poor illustration and confusing details. Pretty compelling protag/supporting cast and decent story as well!
One Piece and Frieren are amongst my favs as well, I’m glad they made your list. Here’s a couple other manga I love I think you might enjoy as well: - QQ Sweeper + Queen’s Quality (Bugs infect people’s minds, people called Sweepers fight them-quickly gets way more complicated than that with an excellent main cast) - Basara (Has a lot of the same liberation themes as OP but with an extremely different setting and tone, art is a bit of an acquired taste but is also very beautiful) - Children of the Whales (One I recommend every fan of AOT to read since they have settings that are similar, but also has a lot of its own interesting concepts related to the importance of emotions) - Magus of the Library (Beautiful series about a boy becoming his world’s equivalent of a librarian/historian, has an incredible world and I’m always down for series that at least partially focus on archiving) These probably aren’t as talked about as some of the bigger shonen series out there, but they are more than worth a chance!
2007 was the first and, at the time, last manga I read. I also DNF'd it. Then comes Murphy crying over One Piece and I gave it a go. I shall be all caught up soon after a year of reading. Then Frieren, which I love though I just watched the anime.
I think you'll love YuYuHakusho. It's by the author of HunterxHunter, but before he wrote HxH. Like, HxH it starts off as one thing but then quickly evolves into new things as stuff comes up. I think you'll be able to notice some similar characters as well. It was the anime/manga that did the 'tournament arc' so well that it became a thing other anime and manga wanted to have. Only takes a couple eps or 3 to get you hooked and is one of the few anime where I love the dub more than the sub.
14:27 One of the things Hunter x Hunter's anime does perfectly is Meruem's death. It takes place after the credits roll and there is very little music. The voice acting (at least in the dub that i watched) was also phenomenal; in fact, Max Mittelman (Meruem's voice actor) said he cried in the studio after recording that scene.
Have really enjoyed watching your journey into manga and anime, you helped revitalise my love of One Piece and got me in to Frieren and Spy Family. I’d love to see you branch into webcomics/manwha (broadly Korean manga). Especially Tower of God, Omniscient Reader and the Greatest Estate Developer. I think you’d genuinely love all three.
If you combined your top 3 of One Piece, Jojo and Aot, you would get Golden Kamuy. It's such a phenomenal series with the best antagonist cast I've ever seen.
One the things I found I deeply appreciate about manga/anime like One Piece, Jojo’s, and Dragonball are the fights. Typically when we enter a fight scene in other stories (Avatar being an example), the fights can seem like random space-filler that leads to a revelation or some sort of story beat. With series like OP, Jojo’s, and Dragonball, the fights can have major beats in the story. They can be calculating, have humor, character development, and they have the ability to exhibit the full spectrum of emotions we tend to see in a more narrative-based scene. I do think the fights in these types of series could be studied, adapted, and possibly be revolutionary or groundbreaking for many other types of stories beyond manga and anime. Having said that, I knew you’d love Jojos, but I never thought you’d love it as much as you do. It’s such a different type of series and js genuinely one of the most unique type of stories I’ve seen. Those type of series deserve to be lauded. One Piece is also that type of series. I also want to comment on how great you are at these types of videos. You have a great use of attention-grabbing tools, like using your hands to pull viewers in and create more interesting silhouettes or the annunciation of specific words within a sentence that highlight the tone and feeling of your words. The vulnerability to make mistakes and joke about it, helping the viewer feel more comfortable. And you even do such a great job of picking the right words, where we aren’t getting spoiled and your points are articulate. I’m always super impressed with your content.
Nen is super interesting. It's like what if everyone had chakra/ki/haki inside them and they could use it to get devil fruit like powers that do outrageously wild things.
The two manga that have impacted me the most are Great Teacher Onizuka and Fire Punch. The former is a recognized classic and actually profoundly changed how I interact with people and helped teach me the importance of self-awareness. The latter is an absolute emotional rollercoaster with the most unpredictable plot twists I have ever seen. It almost revels in its shock value; even though I wholeheartedly love it, it is NOT for everyone.
I love that youve really upgraded your manga catalogue. You have beeen hitting a lot of the classics and Its beautiful to see an adult actually get into manga this late in the game. My vote is still out for you starting One punch man and Kingdom but you will always have my viewership. Keep up the amazing work my g.
As a massive JoJo fan, I have to say that the series is not for everybody. Especially if you're looking for story and characters, it can feel undercooked at times. But if you just turn your brain off and enjoy the absurdity, then it's the greatest thing ever.
@booksandtropes Read the manga, but make sure to check out the anime's opening and ending songs. I love the anime's OST and voice acting, but I think the pacing is handled much better in the manga, and you also get to see Araki's art evolve. The manga also provides you with some cool information, such as character profiles.
kono oto tomare has been my obsession this year, hope you have the chance to see it merphy! congrats on another year of falling in love with mangas, here for many more.
I'd highly recommend Gintama based on your list, it's very absurdist and has some really bizarre humor but also some of the most emotional scenes that are just so real and hits you in the feels. And the anime is the way to go for this show, the voice acting is just spectacular and brings out the humor of the characters really well. It does have a bit of a slow start but it's very worth the long journey! This is my favorite show of all time so I might be a bit biased but it's one of the best things to watch when having an off day too, it just has every genre you could want except romance (very little) but you don't enjoy that. Also one of the best ever executions of a found family which I know you love. It can wait for a while tho since Gintama tends to get better the more anime/manga you have watched since you can get more of the references
Gintama is one of the best out there. Ginktoki's characterization is so well done, the Farewell Shinsengumi arc is spectacular, so many stellar openings, Zura is the best strategist 😂. Kagura might possibly be the best written female character in shonen. Sadaharu is also the best dog in manga. I don't even know what the funniest moment is, since there are so many! The voice acting might be the best I've seen for an ensemble cast.
Thanks Merphy, and Happy New Year. Next up I would recommend *BLAME!* by Tsutomu Nihei, seeing as it's beautifully drawn, unlike any other manga (or story) I've read and quite simply a Masterpiece. Comes in 6 gorgeous Master Edtions.
Its amazing how much a reread/rewatch/replay of books/manga/movies/games can change your perception of it, I feel like I replayed and rewatched almost everything as a kid when what I had access too was limited but I've actively tried to replay/reread some things I default say I love in the last year and its been a joy everytime, I'm shocked at how many sections or characters I completely forgot even after gushing over a thing for a decade
This is a great list, and your love for each series shows. I've read/watched most of everything on your list so mayhaps I'm a little biased. I have the same top 3 as well lol. I am sort of curious which series were good and close to making your list but didn't, kind of like a best of the honorable mentions. I will have to go back and check out your tier list as well. Thanks for the video!
Great channel merphy 👍💯!! I have literally only just started reading manga, at 41 years old! All because of learning about the heavy berserk inspiration in the fromsoftware games (which are my favourite btw). But! I watched the anime first before reading the manga! (Noob issue 🤣) 🤦♂️🤯😂 but the eclipse storyline gripped me like nothing else! So I am currently reading the manga and it is already my favourite, well everything!!! The best thing about the late start though is that I will probably never run out of manga to read for the rest of my life! 👌😃 already got the next ones lined up! Akira, Vagabond, Hellsing, Blade of the immortal, Vinland Saga to name a few. 🔥💯
You should read Daemons of the Shadow Realm, it's from the author of FMA, and it's amazing so far, it's ongoing right now, so it won't be long to catch up. Also, from the same author, Silver Spoon, it's a coming of age story, and also a very beautiful story. Arakawa is an genius mangaka!
W list, love to see OP, SxF, HxH, Frieren, and VS up there. All some of my favorites too. I hope you will try kingdom manga in the future after seeing the comments lol. Practically everybody who loves one piece absolutely loves kingdom
Manga and anime are my favorite forms of media, so here is my top 10 manga: 1 - Slam Dunk 2 - Berserk 3 - Dragon Ball 4 - Crows and Worst (i know i'm cheating but to me both are the same story) 5 - Hajime no Ippo 6 - Eyeshield 21 7 - One Piece 8 - Great Teacher Onizuka 9 - Kingdom 10 - Ace of Diamond Honorable mentions to: Out(Makoto Mizuta), Vagabond and Vinland Saga.
your list is awesome for my list 1.one piece 2.undead unluck 3.kagubachi 4.Edens zero 5. dr stone 6.dbs 7. all of fairytail 8. akane banashi love this hobby it fun seeing different approaches on manga
@ Dr stone really pick up more and more you read it and world is just absolutely amazing. Undead unluck just has the mix vibe of all my fav that came before
mine (manga only) is 1. naruto 2. hunter x hunter 3. chainsaw man 4. bakuman 5. attack on titan 6. sakamoto days 7. jojos 8. kagurabachi (new and only at chap 50 something but its awesome) 9. blue box (ongoing romance but also awesome) 10. shaman king and yu yu hakusho tied
I suggest to read Naoki Urasawa’s creation. Some of the best for me personally are: Monster, Pluto, 20th, and 21st Century Boys. If you love Monster, you could read Deathnote too. It’s a classic, but one of the best cat and mouse story for me. Then, you could read these manga that make you thinking about what is life? Such as Alice in Borderland, Alice in Border Road, Retry, and Gantz. The last one is not easy to digest, brutal, and mindbending.
That's a good list! If you haven't read it yet, I'd recommend Haikyuu!!, Blue Period, all of Inio Asano's works, Shiori Experience, Mushishi, Kingdom and Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku. I hope you can love reading manga as much as I do, it's a vast world with lots of treasures out there for you to see!
I recently started the Frieren anime and goodness I love it so much. It feels like a warm hug you get on Christmas Eve when you visit your grandparents house as a child.
Given you are way more versed in western novels, your perspective on various manga/anime feels very fresh compared to most other youtubers who mainly consume anime/manga content.
I would like to Invite Merphy to Read Bleach and complete the 3 Big Manga Collection (Naruto Bleach One Piece) I got the impression that she is gonna enjoy very deeply some story bits and with the final chapter getting animated with extra scenes and rearrangements and potentially a Final Mix Scenario for Cour 4 next year might be the best moment to get into this series
Yeah I hope she reads Bleach! Its alot more deeper and subtle than people give it credit for and the art is amazing. I'd say read the manga up to Volume 54 and then Watch the anime of the final arc.
My top ten is kinda similar 1. One piece 2. Naruto 3. Aot 4.mha 5. Yuyu hakusho 6. Full metal alchemist 7. Hunter x Hunter 8. Dragon ball 9. Jojo 10. Neon genesis
Top 5 1. One Piece 2. Berserk (Formerly my top 1 but ever since miura died, I dont think the story will ever be the same) 3. Kingdom 4. Slamdunk 5. Vinland Saga
Very interesting points and video! I only recently got to watch the first seasons of Spy X Family and Vinland Saga and absolutely loved them both! I definitely need to continue them. Here's my Top 5 (I only counted manga): 1- One Piece 2- Slam Dunk (these two are basically interchangeable) 3- GTO 4- FullMetal Alchemist 5- DragonBall
I'd recommend the works of Satoshi Mizukami. Some of these have anime adaptations, of varying quality, but the manga are all great. Spirit Circle (not animated yet) Sengoku Youko (the anime is very good) Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (poorly animated)
I admittedly don't read a lot of manga, but my tiny top 5 list is: 1) Claymore [I can't recommend this to everyone, given the extreme body horror and equally extreme violence, but the story is great and characters are some of the best I've ever seen, and it honestly saved my life at a time I desperately needed it] 2) Natsume's Book of Friends 3) Cardcaptor Sakura 4) RG Veda 5) Persona 3 manga adaptation Top 5 manga I want to read: 1) Yona of the Dawn 2) Witch Hat Atelier [the anime is coming this year, so I'll probably watch it first] 3) Delicious in Dungeon [I'll read this after season 2 of the anime comes out] 4) Vinland Saga 5) Dinosaur Sanctuary Top 3 anime I want to watch: 1) Frieren 2) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 3) Oh My Goddess 4) RahXephon 5) Princess Tutu
I agree, One Piece week by week has been less enjoyable than when I was just catching up to it. Also still my #1 manga though and I'm into Jojo's, HxH and AoT
My personal Top 10 1. Hunter x Hunter 2. One Piece 3. Attack on Titan 4. Delicious in Dungeon 5. Chainsaw Man 6. Assassination Classroom 7. Colette Decides to Die 8. The Apothecary Diaries 9. A Sign of Affection 10. Spy x Family
I definitely think HxH will bump up when you do a re-read. I re-watched the anime countless times but it wasn’t my favorite until like the third re-watch
My Top series are: 1. One Piece 2. Yu Yu Hakusho(english dub anime) 3. Attack on Titan 4. Vinland Saga 5. Made in Abyss (especially the anime) 6. Death Note 7. Beserk 8. Full Metal Alchemist
Love the list. Some of these are ones I’ve loved for a long time and some I still haven’t gotten around to. Hoping to read all of these one day and seeing where my thoughts align with yours. I think I’ve recommended it before but I still recommend Yu Yu hakusho. The English dub anime is one of the best anime still, but the manga is also fantastic if you’re more into sticking to manga. Amazing story and a lot of elements from this story made it into HxH as well.
My top 10 off the top of my head are: Goodnight Punpun Blood on the Tracks Berserk Monster Gantz Homunculus Attack on Titan Claymore Battle Royale Inuyashiki Some of my other favorites are Tokyo Ghoul, Parasyte, Chainsaw Man, Death Note, Vagabond, Hell's Paradise, Dandadan, Vinland Saga, Kurosaki Corpse Delivery Service, Ichi the Killer, Elfen Lied, Promised Neverland, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Jagaaan, Dorohedoro, and quite a few others. So many good manga out there but they can sometimes be hard to find.
Very solid ranking all around Merphy. Real curious how this might shake up for you in the future. Just ranked my own top 10 animanga thinking of this and mine probably goes: 1. One Piece 2. Berserk 3. Attack on Titan 4/5(tied). Undead Unluck and Bleach 6. HunterxHunter 7. Jojos Bizarre Adventure (tho Part 6 alone might be over HxH, don't tell the Togashi fans lol) 8. Gurren Lagann 9. Konosuba 10. The Promised Neverland
i'm crazy to think that one piece and jojo are almost oposite series? their themes, storytelling and fighting are so diferent, but it's what made then so great i love them both with all my heart
Merphy you've GOTTA Open up SOMETHING by Naoki Urasawa. Monster, 20th century boys, Pluto, Billy Bat, anything! Their work blows all of this out of the water, especially if you're a book reader like I know you are. One of the best AUTHORS of the 20th century (lol) imo and they are writing manga.
@@CoolAsianGuy Not a very cool comment coolasianguy, try not to be insulting. Also, good art can always be entertaining and deepness does not exclude something from being exciting and interesting to read. Urasawa's Manga reads like an HBO series, it isn't War and Peace. You should try it sometime.
My top 10 favourites, since there's some that weren't in yours and maybe you'll see something you might like- 1) One Piece 2) Tower of God 3) The Breaker/The Breaker: New Waves 4) Fullmetal Alchemist 5) World Trigger 6) Ares (I've only ever seen a couple others who have said they've read it) 7) Dandadan 8) JoJo's (#1 Steel Ball Run, #2 Golden Wind, #3 Stone Ocean) 9) Beastars 10) Dorohedoro Other fantastic stories are- Deadman Wonderland, Undead/Unluck, Katekyo Hitman Reborn (incredibly slow start, then it changes from a gag manga to an action manga), Beelzebub (absolutely hilarious), Shaman King. If you wanna read a story with just ridiculous art- Green Blood. And it only has 49 chapters.
After I watched this video last week I watched episode 1 of Frieren… the only stories in your top 10 list that I’ve seen are One Piece (my favorite) and Spy X Family… I’m on episode 14 rn and I’m LOVING it… this will be my 9th anime ever once I’ve finished it so I’m excited to watch #10… so far I have (in order of when I watched it) One Punch Man, Spy X Family, One Piece, The Quintessential Quintuplets, Bucchigiri?!, Fate/Stay Night (Unlimited Blade Works), My Hero Academia, Link Click, and now Frieren… thanks for the recommendation for Frieren!!!

Thank you! Agreed :)

I like how One Piece has left such a mark on your vocabulary that you call the core cast of characters "our crew" in every series discussion since.
HxH will forever be my favorite manga of all time, was great to see your videos on it
Aot top 3 lets go!!!! Also glad to see Vagabond, Vinland, Frieren make it to your list!
Factos
If you are looking for more Jojo-esque stories I would recommend any of Dorehedoro, Chainsawman and Dandadan.
I'd go with Golden kamuy and Dr. Stone since both are pretty unique and bizarre in their own right
Oh absolutely
I LOVE DOROHEDORO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dorohedoro is amazing
I second the Chainsaw Man recommendation. It is one of the most tragic stories, yet very memorable and completely misrepresented by many others. People used to refer to it as the "boob manga" but that does not do it justice at all. Denji, the main character, is searching for love and acceptance. I am currently collecting Witch Hat atelier, Monster and Fire Punch reading them . I am growing more in love with physical editions than online

Hunter x Hunter is beautiful on rereads because you catch just how layered the foreshadowing is.

I didn't know merphy from the start of mangas journey but i was there for the transition towards a full mangas enjoyer and it was a great experience
Many more to come for you ( the day you start to read some Light novels will be a day to be remembered )
❤
It is soo good but sadly not well known in the west :(
@ It is being recommended by Merphys patrons and was on the last poll. So it may be something that is eventually read.
@@michaelauracher2895 I discovered it when I first moved to Tokyo and was looking for a manga to practice my Japanese with - melted my heart
This is so sweet! It’s definitely on my list
full metal alchemist will always be number one in my heart
other than that, i salute your impeccable taste
We need Merphy to experience Kingdom and Berserk! Maybe not Berserk but more Seinen for sure

Merphy, I respect your list so much, you even put Attack on titan on a higher level, I love it 😱🎃🖤💖🔥🤺
One manga i think you would like is mushishi. It's really great, specially with the author's comments about each chapter
I love mushi shi, i the anime is well made too and such a cozy vibe
@@VancoldGHAgree about manga but also anime, voice, soundtrack atmosphere is perfect.
Mushishi is my favorite anime
Yessss plsss more ppl neeed to watch the series it's a rare gem of an anime
One Piece and Frieren are amongst my favs as well, I’m glad they made your list. Here’s a couple other manga I love I think you might enjoy as well:
- QQ Sweeper + Queen’s Quality (Bugs infect people’s minds, people called Sweepers fight them-quickly gets way more complicated than that with an excellent main cast)
- Basara (Has a lot of the same liberation themes as OP but with an extremely different setting and tone, art is a bit of an acquired taste but is also very beautiful)
- Children of the Whales (One I recommend every fan of AOT to read since they have settings that are similar, but also has a lot of its own interesting concepts related to the importance of emotions)
- Magus of the Library (Beautiful series about a boy becoming his world’s equivalent of a librarian/historian, has an incredible world and I’m always down for series that at least partially focus on archiving)
These probably aren’t as talked about as some of the bigger shonen series out there, but they are more than worth a chance!
2007 was the first and, at the time, last manga I read. I also DNF'd it. Then comes Murphy crying over One Piece and I gave it a go. I shall be all caught up soon after a year of reading. Then Frieren, which I love though I just watched the anime.
Give hxh and kingdom a try !!!
I can't agree; I believe Avatar fights achieve this just as well, and the same goes for Naruto.
One day Merphy will read YuYu Hakusho and I will rejoice.
Need this
Nen is super interesting.
My Anime list is:
1 - One Piece
2 - Naruto
3 - Fullmethal Alchemist
4 - HunterxHunter
5 - Jojo
6 - Mob
7 - Monster
8 - Black Clover
9 - Saint Seiya
10 - Cowboy Bebop
I love Saint Seiya too.
I love that youve really upgraded your manga catalogue. You have beeen hitting a lot of the classics and Its beautiful to see an adult actually get into manga this late in the game. My vote is still out for you starting One punch man and Kingdom but you will always have my viewership. Keep up the amazing work my g.
I really need to read/watch jojo's
So many anime/manga so little time
Great list!!! :)
As a massive JoJo fan, I have to say that the series is not for everybody. Especially if you're looking for story and characters, it can feel undercooked at times. But if you just turn your brain off and enjoy the absurdity, then it's the greatest thing ever.
@ good to know, do you prefer the anime or manga?
@@booksandtropesBoth r great but anime cuz the soundtrack and colors add a lot
@booksandtropes Read the manga, but make sure to check out the anime's opening and ending songs. I love the anime's OST and voice acting, but I think the pacing is handled much better in the manga, and you also get to see Araki's art evolve. The manga also provides you with some cool information, such as character profiles.
@royalfun1031 Part 1 and 3 have atrocious pacing in the anime to be honest. No wonder why so many people think that Part 1 is boring.
Im a massive JoJo fan. I'm so glad that you loved it from the very beginning
kono oto tomare has been my obsession this year, hope you have the chance to see it merphy! congrats on another year of falling in love with mangas, here for many more.
Bro......Gintama would be....wow I'd love that.

Great top 10 Merphy! Thanks!
Fingers crossed for Gunnm in the future, peak sci-fi/cyberpunk manga.
As a long time collector I have absolutely been LOVING the current era of manga, so many unique and fun stories.
Merphy, I teaky recommend you D.Gray-Man.
Its such a underated gem.

9 - Kingdom
10 - Ace of Diamond

10. shaman king and yu yu hakusho tied
It's on her list, and will most likely happen in 2025
Yeah I hope she reads Bleach! Its alot more deeper and subtle than people give it credit for and the art is amazing. I'd say read the manga up to Volume 54 and then Watch the anime of the final arc.
Love this style of video! Based on your likes I feel like you might really like my favorite shonen, Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee). Merry Christmas!
My top ten is kinda similar
1. One piece
2. Naruto
3. Aot
4.mha
5. Yuyu hakusho
6. Full metal alchemist
7. Hunter x Hunter
8. Dragon ball
9. Jojo

2. Berserk (Formerly my top 1 but ever since miura died, I dont think the story will ever be the same)
3. Kingdom
4. Slamdunk
5. Vinland Saga
Very interesting points and video! I only recently got to watch the first seasons of Spy X Family and Vinland Saga and absolutely loved them both! I definitely need to continue them.
Here's my Top 5 (I only counted manga):
1- One Piece
2- Slam Dunk (these two are basically interchangeable)
3- GTO
4- FullMetal Alchemist
5- DragonBall
Hey, recommend a manga, it's called Versus, please give it atleast 5 chapters
i wish Merphy read Inio Asano and Naoki Urasawa works... bet she would love many of their works...
I can not recommend the RUclipsr Hamon Beat enough! His analytical look at JoJo is so great! Give him a go at some point.
I'd recommend the works of Satoshi Mizukami. Some of these have anime adaptations, of varying quality, but the manga are all great.
Spirit Circle (not animated yet)
Sengoku Youko (the anime is very good)
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (poorly animated)
I admittedly don't read a lot of manga, but my tiny top 5 list is:
1) Claymore [I can't recommend this to everyone, given the extreme body horror and equally extreme violence, but the story is great and characters are some of the best I've ever seen, and it honestly saved my life at a time I desperately needed it]
2) Natsume's Book of Friends
3) Cardcaptor Sakura
4) RG Veda
5) Persona 3 manga adaptation
Top 5 manga I want to read:
1) Yona of the Dawn
2) Witch Hat Atelier [the anime is coming this year, so I'll probably watch it first]
3) Delicious in Dungeon [I'll read this after season 2 of the anime comes out]
4) Vinland Saga
5) Dinosaur Sanctuary
Top 3 anime I want to watch:
1) Frieren
2) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
3) Oh My Goddess
4) RahXephon
5) Princess Tutu

I definitely think HxH will bump up when you do a re-read. I re-watched the anime countless times but it wasn’t my favorite until like the third re-watch
The fact she didn't watch the anime
Only manga is this high up
If she watches anime and a re-read will definitely go high up
Been a great year of you reacting to manga
My Top series are:
1. One Piece
2. Yu Yu Hakusho(english dub anime)
3. Attack on Titan
4. Vinland Saga
5. Made in Abyss (especially the anime)
6. Death Note
7. Beserk
8. Full Metal Alchemist
Watch the ghost stories English dub, its truly a masterpiece you will never forget
I have, its hilarious. @dadlh6394
It's interesting how all stories in the list include themes of war in some way. Literally all of them.
I've been begging Merphy to read DanDaDan but honestly, she's read Dragon Ball and HxH, it's time for her to read Yu Yu Hakusho
I think you would like dorohedoro a lot. Very human characters and just stellar writing
My top 10 off the top of my head are:
Goodnight Punpun
Blood on the Tracks
Berserk
Monster
Gantz
Homunculus
Attack on Titan
Claymore
Battle Royale
Inuyashiki
Some of my other favorites are Tokyo Ghoul, Parasyte, Chainsaw Man, Death Note, Vagabond, Hell's Paradise, Dandadan, Vinland Saga, Kurosaki Corpse Delivery Service, Ichi the Killer, Elfen Lied, Promised Neverland, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Jagaaan, Dorohedoro, and quite a few others.
So many good manga out there but they can sometimes be hard to find.
Inuyashiki and homunculus are underrated as hell 🫡
Part 7 of Jojo is gonna change Merphy
Very solid ranking all around Merphy. Real curious how this might shake up for you in the future.
Just ranked my own top 10 animanga thinking of this and mine probably goes:
1. One Piece
2. Berserk
3. Attack on Titan
4/5(tied). Undead Unluck and Bleach
6. HunterxHunter
7. Jojos Bizarre Adventure (tho Part 6 alone might be over HxH, don't tell the Togashi fans lol)
8. Gurren Lagann
9. Konosuba
10. The Promised Neverland
Toriyama is a paneling God in manga, unmatched.
I just finished berserk and that made it to my second favorite manga. I really hope the new stuff does the series justice.
i'm crazy to think that one piece and jojo are almost oposite series? their themes, storytelling and fighting are so diferent, but it's what made then so great
i love them both with all my heart
Merphy you've GOTTA Open up SOMETHING by Naoki Urasawa. Monster, 20th century boys, Pluto, Billy Bat, anything! Their work blows all of this out of the water, especially if you're a book reader like I know you are. One of the best AUTHORS of the 20th century (lol) imo and they are writing manga.
She's already read Monster and watched Pluto

My top 10 favourites, since there's some that weren't in yours and maybe you'll see something you might like-
1) One Piece
2) Tower of God
3) The Breaker/The Breaker: New Waves
4) Fullmetal Alchemist
5) World Trigger
6) Ares (I've only ever seen a couple others who have said they've read it)
7) Dandadan
8) JoJo's (#1 Steel Ball Run, #2 Golden Wind, #3 Stone Ocean)
9) Beastars
10) Dorohedoro
Other fantastic stories are- Deadman Wonderland, Undead/Unluck, Katekyo Hitman Reborn (incredibly slow start, then it changes from a gag manga to an action manga), Beelzebub (absolutely hilarious), Shaman King.
If you wanna read a story with just ridiculous art- Green Blood. And it only has 49 chapters.
Nice overview, even if I had to skip half the series, because I still want to watch them, and am afraid of spoilers.

For me
1. Kingdom

4. Vinland Saga
5. Full-metal alchemist
6. Berserk
7. HxH
8. Chainsawman
9. Sakamoto Days
