You have a very soothing voice.
I started backyard chicken raising August of 2021.
I've lost 2. I don't really know what their illness was.
    But I was devastated.
I'm trying to keep my 12 alive.
I've gotten a bit paranoid and worried.. I just feel like I don't know what I'm doing..
    I keep trying though.
    I'm glad I found you.
I hope we can keep the rest alive.❤

I’m so happy I came across this video. Very educational! Gave me more confidence in knowing what to do when my chickens are not feeling good. Thank you so much for taking the time for sharing and giving me my confidence. My chickens are free range and live in a really nice coop. They bring us much joy and wonderful fresh eggs.

Hi good info .I found a once of prevention is well worth it! Each month I use diced garlic and oregano cabbage and diatomaceous earth to their diet and treats worms i also use wormwood ...all good to grow yourself too ..and they can free range these plants like mints and catnip lemon balm...and dry and powder some for winter to add to food and treats...some things can also be added to water but These herbal remedies and plants should all be in their natural diet! Some people are raising and breeding for a wild flock with minimum care something to think about... have a great day!

Thank you so much for your video. I have two chickens right now and one of them is severely Showing Mirics, which I know they spelled this wrong, but one of them on the other hand just had a foot curling up, and I started giving her vitamins and confined her. She seems to be doing better, but she’s not moving so she may be the next one to come down sadly, I don’t have a vet in the area and it saddens me to have to take care of the one that I have who severely unable to move, can kind of wiggle her self a bit, but other than that am I also thought botulism only because I have a neighbor who throws things over the yard and I’ve been known to throw veggies in the yard. Not thinking they could rot. Which I will no longer do I will put them in a container, I’ve had chickens for two years and I’ve never had anything like this happen and it saddens me to know I might lose two of my girls.

Fantastic video - so informative and exceptional presentation. Thank you. I have four hens all under one year old and over the past two weeks have dramatically reduced eating their Layer food. I recently fed them a pumpkin that they devoured. They are still hungry and will eat food scraps, lettus, cucumber and of course treats. The past 2 days I stopped all treats, had a limmited success by soaking the pellet layer food in water. I noticed that one hen comb has some scale on it, and the other two have somewhat faded. One hen comb is a little droopy. Poop in the hen house seems ok, just a bit runny and dark. I’m trying to diagnose the problem and understand what the solution is. This was a great help. Im going to try several holistic things - Garlic, Pumpkin Seeds, Apple vinegar. My biggest concern is they are not eating the Layer food. Should I give them other foods like scrambled eggs, veggies, oat seeds?

Iron deficiency can be prevented by giving them alfalfa (unsprayed) as bedding. They gives us better eggs with a darker yolk.
Instead of garlic I would get a garlic fermenter online. It gives you aged black garlic after 8 days. This tastes really great and is much stronger than regular garlic.
I would occasionally add probiotics to their water with honey so the beneficial microbes double every 20 minutes before you actually give them the water.
I would try sprouting their chicken feed. It makes them healthier and saves you money.

I’ve been hit with a pendulous crop in one of my girls. On top of that, it was impacted as well as sour. For three days I massaged the crop every two hours before I finally broke up the impaction . In the meantime, I started adding a blend of vitamins and minerals as well as probiotics to their water. Every other day I added two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with the mother. Over the next three weeks I reduced the daily massages down to three to four times a day. The crop was slow to respond but it was making progress. What finally produced a significant breakthrough was fitting my girl with a chicken bra. She may have to wear it the rest of her life, but so be it. Interesting, she never stopped laying and never acted sick.

Low sodium or salt in the diet will also trigger cannibalism or vent picking on chickens. So giving some salt in their diet could be a remedy to prevent it. Those that are already wounded, can be isolated and treated with wound spray to aid healing and prevent the bird in pecking its wounds.

My rooster 🐓 is making this sour crop sound. He has no energy today, is not eating and is just hiding out mosting. He was picking a little at the plants and dirt and he did pick at his food once but brief. No more than 30 seconds. I would like to try the upside remedy but how many times do I do this and what part do I massage exactly. I am new to this and I am already attached to my rooster. I wanna be the best care taker for him and do what is best. If you are able to assist I would greatly appreciate it. 🙏 Thank you for your video, it was very informal.

This morning when I let my 11 girls into their run and noticed one was a little off. I pushed her a little and she nearly fell. Did same to another and she just stepped away. Then saw her take one leg at a time and push and push it back like she was stretching. I just broke up some bread and the others were running

    • @cherylmerritt3
      @cherylmerritt3 2 года назад +1

Part 2. running around eating it. Something was wrong so I took her in the house and put her in dog cage. Kept watching her and gave her vinegar water, an egg, cooked pumpkin, scratch seed and wet bread. She was eating, especially wet bread. Around 7-8 I checked and she laid an egg. She was sturdy on her feet and eating more. If she's still ok in morning, I'll put her back with others.
Another thing, about half of the girls have bare spots on back by tail. I got some dresses for some of them because it's been so cold lately (wind chill down to -17). I see couple girls where feathers are coming in but most it's large bare spots (large apple size). Is there something I can do to help feathers grow back? The girls were hatched early April 2022.

@@tenabarnes3269 Purdue did studies that proved that oregano oil in feed reduces illness and loss. It’s not 100% of course, but it does help. Works for people too… That being said, you can add purchased oregano oil to feed but I think it’s much easier to find feed that contains it. Nutrina has something called Flock Shield which is oils like oregano and thyme plus probiotics, all super important (and proven) to increase immunity health. Otherwise there is something else I’ve used called Ropa Poultry which is a liquid supplement added to water or feed that has all the super beneficial liquid herbsl extracts plus vitamin boosters. This is also used in non antibiotic commercial corporate flocks.
