In the instructional video by Dmm, it is shown that you can just grab a carabiner and start lowering by tilting the pivot with it. No need for redirecting the rope, no need for slipknot+overhands and certainly no need for prusik.

Can the same set p be used with an Edelrid Mega Jul? There seems to be a point where it locks up if you tilt it back too far, but i not sure if that's part of the design or if the carabiner used isn't ideal -- i heard the Edelrid devices are quite proprietary with krab compatability.

      Hi!
So I do have a edelrid mega duel and I do find it pretty hard to use. Releasing it under load is a bit of a faff however you can do it with the methods in this video. Takes a bit of practice compared to the DMM pivot and yes found it works much better with some edlerid crabs.
Most manufacturers make these devices to work with their own crabs. Personally I don’t use the due anymore as the pivot is just so easy to use and for the sake of an extra £30, I’d just buy one of these.
