Thank you, Mark. I’m an amateur gardener who can’t grow more that cherry tomatoes and snap peas, but I love watching how you have created an entire world of vege in your back yard. Very inspiring. And your humour and humility is so endearing. Big fan!
I'm really enjoying your channel! I'm from Alabama and just did my first in ground veggie patch from seed. This is really exciting seeing all my sprouts coming up. I saw your compost video and just started a hot compost spot. Im glad I found your channel. Thanks for sharing all the great information! Looking forward to your next live Q&A. Id like to know how you handle invasive plants. I'm battling a wisteria vine, wild blackberries, and poison ivy at the moment. Trying not to use toxic garbage controling it but I think the wisteria will have to have something to kill it before it takes over my entire yard and chokes out my fruit trees. And yes those bird sounds are lovely. Lol you should make a sound scapes record.
Alright, that's it, I'm subscribing! You are an intelligent, wise (not the same thing), kind, and appropriately confident dude! In a world that wants us to be perfect all the time on the first time, it is really great to see you calmly learn/experiment/teach with us!
I'm sure you've covered this somewhere, but here's my question; for smaller container planters (for a balcony) what potting soil, compost, etc would I need. Please keep it simple because I'm brand new to this. I also live on Canada's (wet) west coast; Vancouver Island. Thanks so much.
Hi, missed your live show but enjoyed listening to all your good advice....👍 My dad used to graft fruit trees. I used to love watching this as a child... Hoping to catch your next live show....👋
Boo, I asked RUclips to notify me when you went live and it got to me too late! Love your videos! You're living the dream and I appreciate you passing along all the good tips and info I can use in my own garden.
Mark. Regarding grafting... many varieties on one tree if you have a patio garden. Our stone fruit are multi grafted. My figs have 5-6 varieties on one tree. Avocado is the same with A n B flowering varieties.
We've live on a small farm out at Nimbin NSW. I love comparing all the bird noises you've got there at your place to the ones we've got here, it's almost the same! 😅 I'm liking the new stuff you're trying mark 🤙. You're always worth a listen. Keep but the good work mate. I hope I can catch the next one live.
Hi Mark. My raised asparagus bed I prepared and about 7 months ago has settled far more than I expected. I planted bare rooted plants and they have taken off really well. In the off season is it possibel to dig up roots, fill bed, trim roots and replant once I filled the bed. Regards Joe. Love you shows.
I have a huge rack of sunflowers at the moment. They look awesome and all my neighbors are loving on them too. I put aluminum foil strips under the flowers and the cockatoos haven't touched them :)
Gobsmacked ... haven't watche in a while ... so sophiticated now, yard looks great, and 1.27M subs! Way togo, congrats, well deserved, great stuff! Thanks for keeping on!
I seem to have resident burras here, been there for 20+ years.. I think the generations have learned that this is a good place, come back here where they were born & thats why they always here.......... in the same damn tree too, lucky I never cut it down....... :)
Hello. This is Edward from Mississippi, USA. I love what you do to help so many have better gardens. About how much of your own food do you produce every season? Thank you, Edward.
G'day Mark👍 Can't wait for you to have that camera mobile. ..How's your camera skills?..thought of a 'Special' on Aussie creatures on your property?! I reckon the folk around the globe would love it.🌏♥️ Cheers from The West🍻
My best dog eventually went loopy after toad licking and I had to put her down but she lived for 15 years and had arthritis and went blind too but was such a wonderful dog. Cheers and thanks.
Hiya mate. Great fan, thanks for the content. Do you know anything about passionfruit? I've planted plenty from seed but the leaves are curling are getting rugged. Any hint? (I can make a video and show you if you can spare the attention hehe)
Hi there! 👋🤓💖 I don't know if you have roosters, but I'd love to see a video from you talking about aggressive roosters and how to deal with them. Thanks for all the great information you share with us!
Happy Friday !!! Bought the weekend beer and chilling it already 🤣🍺🍺, could you include your chickens and ducks in an upcoming video as well, it’s so relaxing , have a great weekend 🍺🍺🍺❤️❤️❤️
Hi Mark I live fairly close by in Nambour and have made a start with self sufficient gardening. Have seen your vid re the plums and will purchase. What small nut trees will do well here? Marie
For us aussies in the same area as you would it be possible to set out a growing calendar, I would pay good money to not have to continually transpose the seasons. Love the show keep it up mate
Mark: Love the channel and videos and adore your little paradise farm. May I ask the name of your dog? Or course I may, because I just did. The real question is whether you will tell me! Thanks mate from a fellow vet now living in Thailand.
I’m having trouble with my kikuyu growing up through one veggie patch. I’ll need to dig out the bed won’t I? Oh and I fell asleep listening to your calming voice through my iPod ears last night. (tee hee no offence intended)😀
RUclips had some issues yesterday. Wonder if that’s what your issue was. Nothing you could control. Only because Most of your stuff is so gorgeous, I get a bit jealous. To that end I’ll mention that I just harvested the first of 5 varieties of garlic. I had several that are 3&1/2 inches across. Best crop of garlic yet. I usually only get 3 inch ones😏. Of course I’m in a garlic growing region. I save and grow my own bulbs, year after year. Last year was a disaster. Only 2 inch bulbs. We ran out by Valentine’s Day. Next time you do a home produced experiment, maybe give yourself 3 things brought in each. Also, set up what you have, like add in larger numbers of birds for food. We buy several items in bulk, so we have 6 months worth of several items, like flour, salt, cooking oil, and yeast. As to the questions of human urine as fertilizer, as long as you’re not taking meds with heavy metals, or say lithium, most meds are fine. Plants won’t give the meds back to you or the pharmaceutical companies would do that. 😉. Anytime you can use fertilizer, you can use diluted urine. We stop using 1-2 weeks before harvest if it’s a, eat the plant type or 3 days before fruits. We only water the soil with it, not sprinkle the plant.
Thank you Mark for your content! I've been trying to find out, do you need to treat your water containers over time if its just being used for plants? Does the PH change over time from algae growth or anything else? If anybody has any info on this and wouldn't mind sharing i would truly appreciate it :)
Hello Mark it's gen from Jamaica I am still looking forward to hear about how to grow potato love to watch your self-sufficient shows it helps me a lot thank you💯🥔🇯🇲
Hello, I've seen videos about starting root vegetables with seed plants instead of using vegetables from the market. Will for example a potato from the market not grow as well as a seed potato?
Horrible cucumber issues here, powdery mildew, bugs chewing, etc. vines withering. Used a burpee seed that is Mosaic resistant, bush style. Nevver thought they would be so difficult. Tomato’s have done well. you look good all connection good here in subtropical FL. Rains have not started yet here, soon.
Yea its kinda nice at 2.35 ish plus - how while you were setting up - the banana trees on the left were improvising with a little dance swaying and fluttering about - cool.
Here's something I don't think you've covered? Why hand water if it takes so much time to do? Isn't hand watering irrigating shallow? What happens in the bed when you hand water over a period of time? Microclimate? Mulch effects? Rooting depth? Fungal diseases ? Too wet consistently?
Hi Mark, have been watching you for years ... can i suggest you tell us the question you are about to answer... before you answer so we can know the question too .. such a lovely guy you are ...thank you
Aren't dogs the best?? Our Reena is the best dog I've ever known. And I had dogs that held that title in the past. Lol bet your puppers is the best as well.
Coming very soon! I've got a good collection of content from several trips and I'm putting it together so hopefully you'll find it entertaining and enjoyable 👍🙂
Hello. I was watching your live stream today and I heard that you built a small dam for your water source for the ducks. For another protein resource have you ever considered adding fish like tilapia? If so why or why not? Thank you for your videos.
Tilapia are an invasive species in Australia but it depends on the size of the dam whether it can sustain another species. We have been in drought for a decade but have had a decent amount of rain fall this winter. With our unpredictable Queensland weather the dam level might fluctuate, changing the temperature of the water, which would kill any fresh water fish species. 😄
In most places in RSA you can grow something in the garden all year round similar to Australia. Work out if your climate is subtropical or temperate and plan your crops accordingly. All the best 👍🙂
Spend few minutes just to watching him here n there. Should change the video title how fussy handle new camera..haha. anyway, it's good video to watch while u got lot time to waste. Thanks mike..
