In this 4th video of the Zero to Fishtail Series, we talk about the first real experience with getting our fishtails moving. Taking what we know now about our handrolls in our basic figure 8, this video teaches you how to get the fishtail started with this Half Fishtail exercise.

You're awesome! Some many good tips and lessons from you! I started out training Kung fu a few years ago and did some staff and sword as well so I'm already pretty comfortable with a staff more than most at least. Thanks for the content you put out, Michelle! I love flow arts, and have wanted to get into contact staff for so long. But I was stuck on where to start, and I've realized contact moves are super hard when you don't even have a staff spinning foundation. You're a brilliant teacher, and a bad ass! Working with my stick again. I've made progress with this up to the first half of the half fish. But the second half is really hard! Trying to work on it both sides 10 minutes a day. Hoping for fishies by the end of the summer!

Hi Michelle, firstly totally loving the tutorials and have used them to go back to basics. I have found that your teachings are beautiful and clearly understandable. So my frustration is that I can not seem to get fishtails. So can you suggest any other techniques to help me bridge the brain to the wrists.

+Darnell Cromer I think it's a personal preference. For this particular skills, the length of staff won't really affect you. I would recommend trying a variety of lengths and finding what feels good for you.
