    so im trying to wrap my head around this. please correct me if i am wrong
    acids are substances that contain replaceable hydrogen ions and this is the reason why acids show their acidic properpties when water is present because they are loosing... ugh i got stuck

    • @Cambridgein5minutes
      @Cambridgein5minutes  5 лет назад +6

      Acids have H+ ions that they can “release” or specifically donate. Acids in solution will dissociate to release the H+ ions. For example, HCl (aq) -> H+ and Cl-. The H+ ions are what gives an acid its acidic properties.
      To go deeper, acids are proton / hydrogen ion DONORS. So the H+ that HCl releases must get donated somehow. In fact, thats exactly what happens. It gets donated to water.
      H2O + H+ -> H3O+
      So the acid donates its H+ ion to water molecules which accept it to become H3O+ ions. So in these circumstances, the water essential acts as a base because it ACCEPTS the proton / H+

    • @ashigupta2408

      Its not a displacement reaction here it's an neutralization reaction.

    • @ashigupta2408
      @ashigupta2408 4 года назад

      Neutralization is kindda a displacement reaction but neutralization is counted as a double displacement reaction. I might be confusing you, you can search up difference between displacement and double displacement reaction you'll get it
