  • This is our daily routine for milking our two dexter cows with a 1950s Surge bucket milker. We discuss our setup, training preparation, ups and downs to getting around a gallon of milk a day (between our two first fresheners). While there are fewer concerns for mastitis and while they are a breed that typically calves easily, if you want more milk, the dexter breed is likely not for you. We milk once per day and calf share which has huge benefits, particularly if we get sick or leave town for a few days.
In future videos we will touch how we clean our milker, process our milk, as well as what we make with our milk: cheeses, yogurt, butter, etc.
