Agreed. It had a very “halloweeny-in-aesthetic-but-not-actually-scary” feel to it. Like in the haunted mansion at Disneyland...actually since “Grim Grinning Ghosts” features a Barbershop quartet, the genres’ time overlap probably helped remind me of the Haunted Mansion.

What's amazing is that none of the tunes lost their mood. Harry Potter is still mysterious, PotC is still adventurous, and the Shire is still nostalgic

The style of it was different than the other 2 and it was somewhat charming and moving and actually brought me to tears. It was beautiful if a fun and homey way that is really special. The music wouldn't work simply because of the time period the movie is set in: -Potter Ragtime wouldn't work for Harry's generation, but what about in Newt's generation in the 20's/30's? -Pirate Ragtime might work with a Bonnie & Clyde movie. -LOTR Ragtime would be a Merry/Pippen tune at the tavern. A good example of this song style switching is Westworld's piano renditions of modern songs that wouldn't sound out of place in the Wild West.

It's absolutely bonkers. In the Harry Potter one, at 0:39, there's a bar full of eighth triplets, and it's in tempo 136 for a half note. This means the whole bar is over in just about 0.89 seconds and those 12 eighth notes are played at a staggering 812 keystrokes per minute
I was in that exact position until a few weeks ago. My advice is: Make sure your expectations are super low. The lowest of low, expect an absolute disaster. And then watch the Hobbit. The first one was actually pretty fun, albeit boring at times. From there it goes downhill and the last one honestly is pretty horrible, but for me once I watched one and two I needed some closure and did the last one as well. Theatrical cut though, they're too long even without doing extended!
Try to check if you can watch the Tolkien edition. Its a fan movie, cutting the three hobbit movies into one, and that one is decent. The hobbit movies are way too drawn out
