I left England over 40 years ago and settled in Jamaica, so I think that too many galaxies would have to come into alignment for me to return. But if I did, it would be to live on a narrowboat, and I have my design in mind and partly on paper. It would be very traditional in appearance, but have some innovations that make it special. So for that reason it would be named Tallawah, a Jamaican word that means very strong, strong-willed, fearless and not to be underestimated or taken lightly. So you will hear expressions such as “she likkle but she tallawah!” (she's small, but she's strong), which, when you think about it, is a perfect description of Emma! Well done on your recovery!
You guys hit on a great name that totally reflects who you are. My wife and I also want something unique but also a fairly short single word (6-8 characters max) name as I seem to see most older boats had 'strong' short names. We have a name in mind that ticks most of our boxes but it must remain secret until we get our live aboard boat as it is at this time not mentioned in the canalplan list and I have never seen it out and about. Fingers crossed that remains the case! For now we own nb Bursley which is the name she came with. :)
happy to be up vote one hundred for this vid nice tale of where you got the name. Ours is not a boat but here is how we got the name for our place When we bought our house we had very limited funds (I had 10k aud) and I went to our local real estate asked "is there anything we can buy with a 10k deposit and the only property in the area that we could afford was this odd little 5 acres with two funny kit cottages on it after much crap getting our loan being, homeless for two months with a newborn daughter almost failing to arrange settlement we got the place and to us it seemed like finding that pot of gold "at the end of rainbow" So we christened the place "Bowsend" because of what we think is our very good fortune and because it is a very English sounding name (I'm English) To add even more to our good fortune some months after buying it I was talking to our neighbor and pointing out that I thought the block was on odd shape because one of the fences was not square to the other boundaries , the neighbor laughed and said " That is not your boundary Iain, come with me" she proceeded to lead me another two hundred meters down the hill to a a fence that enclosed a who lot of Aussie bush I did not realize we now owned! It was like every Christmas in your life all at once!
Great to see you back. I hope we see more of you soon. I think the most difficult part of buying a NB is deciding on the name. I want a small boat so I'll need to keep the name short!
Welcome back! You guys were missed. If I were to name a narrowboat, one strong contender would be Dirigo, which is the motto of my home State of Maine. It helps that there is not a single other Dirigo listed on The Boat Index, as opposed to Narrow Escape, which seems to number about 8000. Looking forward to the next update!
hi, nice to see you back, we have just bought our boat,(survey on 27th February), second hand, and there are only two other boats with the same name, 'Cloudberry' but we will be changing the name, to a one off which no one else has, but we aren't announcing it just yet, it will go along with my RUclips name change to match the boat, much 'full and frank discussion' between wife and I about the name, but got there in the end, hope to see more of your adventures soon
Hi glad to see you again. My plan is to call my narrow boat ALF. My Dads name is Alf but that is not the reason. I am an aircraft engineer. For the last 25 plus years I have mainly managed aircraft jet engines. On an engine, if you want to locate a part, you would say it is at, for example, 1 o'clock aft looking forwards .Or 1 o'clock ALF for short. I like the idea that when you are steering a boat you are in fact aft looking forwards.
Thanks for your thought process on the name, you will have to hope that many people see this video so you don't have to explain it to many times. My first boat on the cut was called "Panacea" basically meaning a cure for all ills.
Very much enjoyed that video and good to see you back again. Often wondered why you came up with that name. And I like that it has meaning to you, is not a pun (a good pun can be great - once! After that, it can get a bit groany...) and is unique. My boat was called Merrie Piper when I bough it. Not a bad name but it had no relevance to me. Occasionally, I can be found in a merry state, but I have no connection to pipes of any kind. I had heard and read that it was unlucky to change the name of a boat but I have no truck with that kind of tosh! However, to appease traditionalists (should I come across any) apparently, it is ok to change the name of a boat while it is out of water, so I did just that while it was being blacked just after I bought it. Quite simply, I named my boat after my two daughters; Louisa-Amy. I was concerned for a while that Louisa-Amy did not roll off the tongue as easily as Amy-Louisa, but Louisa was born first and I wanted to reflect that. I decided that if you pronounced the name with an 'R' in the middle, i.e. Louisaramy, it sounded fine as compared to Louisa (pause) Amy. So my boat name has great meaning for me and, I would like to think, my daughters too. I look forward to the continuation of NZG's progress. More power to both your elbows!
Loved the video, Was able to check if my boat idea name was taken. I figured "Sorry" would be great for a novice narrowboat owner, driver. Tbh, I thpught you where going to say "Heart of Gold" when you mentioned HHGTTG
When I do something with my wife (homebrews, etc), we call it an anagram of our forenames which is "Eleven Links" (Kevin, Ellen). For you, this could be "Moe's Axman" or "Some Axman" (Saxon, Emma)!
Good to see you back! Unless I change my mind in the next month or so, my boat (sailaway shell currently under construction) will be called Shel Kek Nem Ron. So obscure most people won't even ask I hope. Bonus points if you can get it without google. PS. I assume you know the floating drone platform that SpaceX land their re-usable rockets on are all named after Culture ships?
Greetings from Northern California. Wish we had canals in the US like the ones you have. I am almost caught up of binge watching your channel and have been loving it. I love Science Fiction and Zero Gravity is the perfect name. Live long and prosper \\//_
Hi there - apologies, I managed to forget to put the link for The Boat List in the description, but it's been updated and is there now! Trying to do too many things at once! :-)
Is it really bad luck to re-name a boat if you do not take it out of the water? how do you re-name a boat anyway? do you pay someone or do you fill in a form of some kind? or do you call it what you want and paint over the old name? i would think you would have to register the new name with someone. I also think i have a great and different name for my boat but i will not share that yet.
You stated that "Zero Gravity" is like freedom. It occurred to me that the one law you don't have freedom from is the Law of Gravity. In Zero Gravity you would have freedom from that law also. It is ironic that you are talking about Zero Gravity while wearing a shirt "The Man Who Fell To Earth". :D
I don't actually know the process for renaming - at a guess, I'd suspect it's probably quite easy and just a matter of updating the information on the Boat Licence, but I don't know for sure!
Saxon and Emma, I hope things are well health wise . I look forward to seeing a new video on progress on your boat. I have been looking at narrow and wide beam boats on the net. You have mentioned looking at a number of boats and boat companies at shows in your search. I know you have settled on Tyler-Wilson but if I give you four companies would you do me a favor and rank them 1-4 , 1 being best. If you want to suggest a company or add a comment it would be appreciated. I am going to ask others also . The companies are : Bluewater Boats Ltd , Collingwood Boat Builders , Tyler- Wilson , and Elton Moss ? Northwich Boat Co. Thank you for your time and knowledge and the videos of your journey. Hal Show less
Hi there - can't really rank those companies as we don't know them. We were limited when we chose the boat builders by location - we didn't want to go too far afield because at that point we figured we'd be sailing the finished boat to our mooring (and we wanted to be able to easily check on the build while it was happening). As a result, we can't advise on those companies, but the reason we went with Tyler Wilson was (a) we were really impressed when we visited them, (b) they've got a very good reputation, (c) they make lovely boats, (d) they only wanted a £500 deposit, when other boat builders wanted several thousand at least as a deposit (they can keep it low because demand for their boats is so large, even if a customer suddenly decides they don't want or can't pay for a boat, they'll still be able to sell the boat to someone else), and (e) they're big and busy enough that they were very unlikely to go under in the middle of construction. That last one was a big factor - boat builders can go under (a number have in the last few years), and if they do there's a good chance that you'll never get your deposit back. Sorry we can't advise more beyond that Tyler Wilson is really good - best I'd advise is maybe check out some of the Boaters forums online and ask for other people's experiences with those companies. :-)
SPACEBALLS ... I'd love that but the boss says never in a million years for some reason! Great fun... There's probably more Dragonfly Narrowboats than there are actual Dragonfly's flying about on the cut!
Mines called summerwine, got it as the wife had theme at her funeral. PROBLEM she gets called or i get shouted to of bank "last summer wine" or sometimes "ill have a glass of that. and dont get me started on wooly hats lol
Watching this video belatedly but curious why the listing for Zero Gravity on the funky website you mentioned gives the beam as “9 feet 2 inches”. Assume that's a typo with the registry because it doesn't sound very narrowboaty to me. Love the name Zero Gravity though. One of the few names I wish I'd have thought of first. For naming things I wish I had Elon Musk's contact details because he seems witty with naming schemes and acronyms too. “Boring Company”. Almost had a feet of car models spelling S, E, X - before Ford threatened to sue. And so on.
Considering the process (or ordeal) you went through, I'm curious. Do you plan on having any children? Gestation frequently takes but nine months. Richard, Oregon, USA
Hi Saxon and Emma , l recall on a visit to the annual Crick show meeting the builder of a well known narrowboat company whose name escapes me but their yard was at Lord Vernans Wharf, so that could be part of your nightmare. Cannot offer anything else I'm afraid.
How about something clever like 'Emmsax' or 'Saxemm'?! Seriously tho, I like 'Zero Gravity' as it's floating at that inexorable juncture - the pointless point between time and space. Yhhh maaan ;)
For a mystic type name for swag stuff maybe enzedgee or enzedigee, maybe too kiwi. Nice fitting vids NZG should do better than most. keep your feet dry thanks
It seems ye have been threw a steep learning curve. I just found your videos today and what ye are doing is amazing. I really love it. Between the sail away boat and fitting the boat how much did the whole project cost. I am looking for a way I can live and be an artist and in the regular world I have to work full time and have little or no time for art so what ye are doing is a brilliant solution and I can wait until ye are able to enjoy it fully. I have subscribed to your channel and I cant wait to see more progress keep it going. I would appreciate subscription back for my channel if you. Thanks for reading my long comment and good luck with the rest of the boat.
Glad you are coming back with your great style of video making! You were greatly missed!!! :-)

I do think your boat name is marvelous! I appreciate the several meanings. Hooray for geeks! LLAP.
I love the microphones. I can hear Emma finally !
Great to see you back. I hope we see more of you soon. I think the most difficult part of buying a NB is deciding on the name. I want a small boat so I'll need to keep the name short!
Great to see you both again. I hope you get back on board when the weather permits.

I love the name.......well done you two!

Hi there - apologies, I managed to forget to put the link for The Boat List in the description, but it's been updated and is there now! Trying to do too many things at once! :-)

we were keen/curious to learn about the boat naming "official" process. how do you go about naming/renaming a boat for any paperwork?

Thank you for your information. The soundness of the company is a real plus. I thank you for your advise to check the forums .
Mostly Harmless is awesome!
I'm naming my vessel " MY DARLING CLEMENTINE". Now all I need is a boat.
SPACEBALLS ... I'd love that but the boss says never in a million years for some reason!
Great fun... There's probably more Dragonfly Narrowboats than there are actual Dragonfly's flying about on the cut!
I love you two. ROD
I'm a Nerd! I will let you off! LOL - "It's got a Z in it" LMAO! You should put that as a tag line under the boats name! Classic! Warm regards. D/P
Mines called summerwine, got it as the wife had theme at her funeral. PROBLEM she gets called or i get shouted to of bank "last summer wine" or sometimes "ill have a glass of that. and dont get me started on wooly hats lol
Another great sci-fi narrowboat name: Rama.
Currently the project name for the NB is "NB Rudolph Hucker " - but may be tempted by Holy Golightly -
Great haircuts.

One of the ones in my current list of names is simply "Salt and Lemon", because I'd be putting it "in the cut". Ouch!
I think a good name would be serenity from firefly it is sifi it is somewhat obscure and has a dubble meaning
Going to call mine Myra after my mother... I also figured that surely the signwriter won't charge much for four letters
Narrowboat "Thanks For The Fish" would work ...maybe
I thought 'Deep Thought' would have worked.
Considering the process (or ordeal) you went through, I'm curious. Do you plan on having any children? Gestation frequently takes but nine months. Richard, Oregon, USA

Cannot offer anything else I'm afraid.
How about Spatial Drift or To Get Her(smash it into one word and get Together).
If I got a narrowboat, I'd name it "Nymph Oeroe".
Saxon reminds me so much of Hugh Laurie - his voice, the way he talks, his facial expressions...
My boat will be called " The Svelte Jaguar".
Just what you would do if you found another nb with the name zero gravity
How about something clever like 'Emmsax' or 'Saxemm'?! Seriously tho, I like 'Zero Gravity' as it's floating at that inexorable juncture - the pointless point between time and space. Yhhh maaan ;)
I've got one , maybe not for you two but I like it .( FLIP OFF ,! ) I'd have a diving board on it , you are in 9ft of water .
For a mystic type name for swag stuff maybe enzedgee or enzedigee, maybe too kiwi. Nice fitting vids NZG should do better than most. keep your feet dry thanks

There's no Narrow boats called "Earth" apparently....
I hope Robbie Cummings doesn't see this video. I feel he will be very disappointed to find out his boat is so common....
If you had a child or pet, will you be going through such a name giving trial?
Thumbs Up for the Geek !=Nerd reference ;-)
Pistol Knights
woohoo! first view, first like and first comment! Yeeesssss!
42?? ( :-D)
errr Forty Two?
you need a cat and name him "EINSTEIN"
And you (probably) get to be at the very end of any alphabetical list.
