I can't stand this trope at all. But I also can't stand the "usual" love triangle trope as well. I always think if the third party is not able to choose between people then they should just fucking leave it and choose no one. Also because I hate that one person gets hurt - mostly the "good" one because of course the girl always chooses the "bad" boy 😤
Me and my twin sister were once liked by the same guy. It was super weird because he could not pick which one he liked more but neither of us even liked him in that way, we just wanted to be friends with him. That entire sitution just killed the friendship.💀
Idk if this counts but, in Little Fires Everywhere (which was also a book adapted into a miniseries) 2 brothers are interested in the same girl. She only had romantic love for one of them and was friends with the other, but the friend was romantically interested so the brothers ended up fighting and she left both of em 😂
Me and my sister had the situation once that someone was kinda interested in both of us and we were weirded out by this 💀 I had two dates with this person and they kept talking stuff like 'oh I bet your sister is now mad at me'. I guess he felt like he's the main character.
Girl as soon as I was told that the show was not only about a back and forth love triangle but it's between two brothers....I was like NAH Count me out!
The way the her biggest problem was choosing between brothers when her family literally just died. Then getting called lucky cause she's living with boys after her while family literally just died. I didn't understand it. I was confused. Who is pushing up on someone who's entire family passed away a week ago. "I know you're grieving and all with your whole family dying in a car crash and you having to move in with a bunch of boys you don't know but you're kinda hot...just had to let you know". What's the heck?😂
I'm glad you're talking about it! LET'S WAKE IT UP! Even in high school, as I watched The Vampire Diaries it was the plot device I hated most about the show. It aggravated me how Elena couldn't decide between Damen and Stefan, and how it would hurt both characters when she was dating or flirting with one instead of the other. Same thing with The Summer I Turned Pretty. In TVD's case, Elena's character really suffered as a whole in my eyes because she came insufferable. I couldn't understand how she couldn't decide and it hurt me to see her hurt them - because they're real characters with feelings too - and I think that this bit is often lost when the writers are funneling this story through the characters. Also, nobody speaks about the "real-world" ramifications of them dating the same girl. When they break up, how are the brothers meant to reconcile and repair their sibling relationship? And if the FMC's relationship with one of the brothers lasts longer than it did with the other brother, doesn't some form of weird resentment or insecurity develop because now you have one character asking "Why not me?" and similar self-pitying, self-depracating questions. I get the appeal but I can't get behind the trope. It's my least favorite in the romance genre.
taking about this topic without mentioning the vampire diaries is crazy, especially since my life with the walter boys is based on a tvd fanfic, and the summer i turned pretty probably also draws inspiration from tvd...
I hate love triangles. I especially hate the brother love triangles. My sisters got caught in something like this. Where they ended up dating the same guy. Like he literally dated one of them until she broke it off and then he just moved on to my other sister. It was so weird and caused a lot of problems. Luckily him and my other sister broke up and my sisters are on better terms now but it was a weird time when that happened. So overall this trope just weirds me out so much for so many reasons.
It's definitely so weird especially if seegs is involved. Like i don't have any siblings but I can't even imagine being with someone my couisn was with.... Just ew...
Same! Or even my best friend. And not just because of the "bro code", but because she literally spent more time at my house than her own. She calls my mom "bonus mum" and knows her way in my mom's kitchen better than me. I honestly think she has been to my mom's apartment more often than me!
@@realestsienna you're clearly a jere hater so I'm not gonna really go back and forth with you. But yeah it's definitely gonna be awkward, but I don't think Jeremiah will care. In the movie Crush it was Rowan Blanchards character between 2 sisters (Isabella Ferreira and Auli‘i Cravalho). She had a crush on one during childhood until HS and ended up w the other by the end of the movie when she realized she had feelings for the right sister
I'm so glad you made a video about this, I hate this trope so much. Why would I want to have anything to do with someone who can't make up their mind if they like me or my sibling? Bridgerton season 2 had 2 sisters i the love triangle, and in Crush Rowan Blanchard's characters wad in a love triangle with 2 sisters
OMG THE CHLÖE INTRO but also I cannot stand this trope because I end up hating both of the love interests and don’t want the Main character to end up with either of them
One thing I noticed is that the female lead always gets blamed for “tempting” the brothers but I don’t understand how the brothers never get hate for pursuing in the first place. It’s on them to have respect for each other and back off on being with the girl.
They're all the same. Vampire Diaries, Walter Boys, Summer I Turned Pretty, etc. It's the same format with the same characters every time. The female leads always end up becoming annoying, a cheater, and then act like they have no control over the situation. The "bad boy" becomes "good" through the power of "love" and has no emotion about hurting their brother by getting with the girl they were with. They're also just genuinely a bad person. The good brother ends up in a "villan" era and honestly if the villain era was them getting both the girl and the brother out of their life and healing from the situation to find their own happiness then it would be great but no. He hurts other people over a girl. Not to mention, the forgiveness that ends up happening way to early. The girls friends egging on the situation is ridiculous too. You know most friends would check this type of behavior. The whole things ridiculous and i hope one day writers get together and vote to just delete this trope from the archives.
Ikr? I used to read it on wattpad, especially Harry Potter fanfics with the Wesley's. But even 11 year old me found it weird AF and understood its tacky
The implications of this troupe is that the main character will in the end always choose the “bad brother” since the plot will be about her becoming super empathetic towards his shitty behavior, even if she’s at the receiving end. She ends up “fixing” him and I’m kinda tried of this!!! Your gf shouldn’t be your therapist, the “bad brother” never seems to have his own character development that doesn’t happen because of influence of the main character.
thank you, that love triangle actually handled it way better and this isn’t me being biased. at least we as the audience could understand how hard it was for elena to choose and she didn’t necessarily go back & forth unlike *cough cough, stomach conklin and even jackie too* cause why’re you playing hot potato with two brothers when you clearly only want one (always the older, bad boy brother)☠️ it’s weird… it’s just like “i can’t have him so i’ll settle for you.”
At first I thought these were like the ultimate betrayal. It’s like if you date your ex’s best friend. It’s a no to the bro/girl code. But dang your sibling?? That hits hard. But weird still. Like when you’re friends with siblings, you’re practically an honorary sibling. So very “family coded”
I've seen a few shows on Netflix (The One, and Sweet Magnolias) where I think they did the family love triangle "right". Which is weird to say because family love triangles are kind weird, but the show puts the love triangle together and then explains why it doesn't work or shows the messiness and broken hearts involved or goes into having the characters learn the difference between the different types of love instead of assuming it's all romantic attraction. I think displaying something without advocating or condoning it is a nicer way of showing morally difficult plot lines and tropes.
THANK YOU I have hated this trope for so long and I swear I've seen it everywhere (imo even Stranger Things fits it now with El being Will's sister now but him also crushing on Mike...) it's so uncomfortable
As soon as I saw the title of this video, Vampire Diaries immediately came to mind. TVD made me aware of The Brothers Love Triangle Trope. I blame the Petrova Dopplegangers from Tatia to Elena for that. It is weird...I need a shower now.

i was genuinely surprised when he didn't mentioned the vampire diaries as one of the most iconic examples of this trope that had all of us on a chokehold back then
omg elite love triangles be vexing me so much. it’s mostly sibling too. samu/marina/fernando (samu’s excon brother) or ari/ivan/patrick then there was the samu/guzman/ ari and ander/omar/patrick 😂
I've only seen some clips of the Walter boys show but it's already pissed me off to the point i wont be watching anymore. Like blonde haired brother sucks
You’re not missing out on anything. Blondie is the typical misogynist, conceited jerk who’s poor behavior we are expected to excuse because he’s “had it rough, lately” 🙄
I don’t like the trope because of the family dynamics. At a certain point, you’re breaking up a family and dragging two people along and for what? I couldn’t finish TSITP because Belly was being kinda selfish and the two lil boys were annoying me.
Weirdly enough this actually happened to me- I’m currently dating the younger brother though but before I met him I saw his older brother and that’s who I wanted for a while. They are fraternal twins. 💀
I do like love triangles but when it comes for siblings is a huge no as always. But I feel like they never really give the sweet the one that actually does tell you how they feel… A win, its really annoying like why do the have to pick someone that’s broken some of us don’t want that. you can make a cute sweet guy and make the relationship have drama like write something
The Cruel Prince has a sister love triangle, but the main character is one of the sisters and is being played by the boy at the centre of the love triangle. It's messy and the boy sucks but that's the point and it makes for some really interesting development of the sisters' relationship (which is sort of the whole point of the plot point!) and its unique and not annoying and the main character also didn't knowingly enter into the situation so that's something. I am probably not remembering some instances of sibling love triangles but as far as I can remember, this is probably the most interesting instance of it. And thankfully it's not too much of the plot. I think The Infernal Devices' love triangle sort of fits this but not quite since the boys are "like" brothers without actually being brothers. The poly potential is a lot of the appeal of that one. But overall I think that's my favourite love triangle ever, it's juicy and not annoying and both boys clearly have appeal and love each other enough to back down and not make trouble. I think the siblings not being aware the other has feelings for the person at the centre is a big factor of what makes me more ok with this trope. If someone knowingly pursues a relationships with someone they know their sibling is into I just can't get that and I lose respect for the character.
like healthy relationships are not boring…. I think it would be great if we started producing more movies like that and make that the norm, rather than “oh young impressionable girls come look at this handsome boy who can’t communicate and treats you like shit BUT OH WAIT he’s just a boy and he said sorry once, through his teeth, so forgive him and forget everything else
U forgot THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. For me it was the first extremely weird brother trope! Never understood how can a brother do this to their own brother?? It’s the girls fault also obviously but where’s the bro code. In India the girl would instantly become bhabhi and the guys brother will be her brother as well, making this trope MORE WEIRD in my head.
I'm not a fan of love triangles in general, it all feels so pointless because the endgame is very obvious from day one, so when it comes to brothers it's even worse, because all I can think about is how they're f* up the family dynamics for a doomed relationship, it's just a trainwreck for no reason.
not the biggest fan of the trope either. i've watched the summer i turned pretty because of nostalgia and their good summer vibes. however, i believe any trope can be well done if the justification is good (the 'why' there is a love triangle in the first place). I'll take a book example but the clockwork trilogy of cassandra clare is the best love triangle i've seen. And I'll say it falls into the brothers trope as well because the two guys are bestfriends and have lived together for years. But the reason behind each actions with each of these boys made so much sense and it brough so much angst. It was actually so good. But that was possible because it was a fantasie, i don't know if a fiction could pull that off
I feel like this is a crazy trope if it were to happen in real life ..... because like why would you want to do things with a girl that your sibling has already done something with (just a thought)
Sisters fighting over a girl love triangles: Crush with Rowan Blanchard, and the show Legacies (but to get there you have to suffer through brother love triangles)
another one is bash, mary, and francis from reign. they even promoted the series as this huge love triangle when in reality the love triangle was killed half a season in... they promoted it that way bc they knew people would be here for it. 🤣
I ALWAYS thought this trope was so weird!! Even when I read the Summer I Turned Pretty series in like late middle/early high school. I finished the last book and I still remember thinking: wtf was that?!?! Like don't disrespect the love of my life like that.
thank u it’s so weirdly incestual i hate it esp bc jackie is like adopted by them like💀 giving brandon and callie from the fosters in the worst way possible
def agree, get so uncomfortable -- y is there so much inc*st in media *d a m n*; the media industrial complex really wanna recreate/uphold the inbred english monarchy ksjshsshdhsn
yes this is what im talking about that whole show it just circling around incest on so many fronts, from her being like legally related to the brothers, to the brothers staring at each other for way to long in a not brotherly way
@@girl_idiot exactly them not being blood with jackie doesn’t make this any less wrong and gross😭
What is exactly how I feel about with TVD because damon is a terrible person, but somehow Elena leave Stefan for him
@@100anneray7THANK YOU! and Majority of the fan base end up being obsessed with Damon and Delena omg it infuriates me TILL THIS DAY
Me and my twin sister were once liked by the same guy.
Mooney was giving incel vibes towards the end 😅

Can't wait for YR S3 and Heartbreak High S2 (and whenever Heartstopper S3 comes out)!
omg im so thankful it got renewed
Me and my sister had the situation once that someone was kinda interested in both of us and we were weirded out by this 💀 I had two dates with this person and they kept talking stuff like 'oh I bet your sister is now mad at me'. I guess he felt like he's the main character.
I hate this trope so much bc they ALWAYS choose the “cool & mysterious boy” who gives so many red flags
i agree with this, but i think especially in the walter boys the "good" guy is the "nice" guy people online talk about who are compared to preincells
I have been waiting for someone to talking about this because I watch the Summer I turned pretty last week and i was weirded out
Girl as soon as I was told that the show was not only about a back and forth love triangle but it's between two brothers....I was like NAH Count me out!
RIGHT? I don’t know why so many people like it
The first thing that came to mind when your video came up was The Vampire Diaries. They were both greasing Elena. 🙊
literally and they were both obsessed with katherine before that
I watched the whole Walter boys series 😭 and girl had a face card and everything !! She could’ve done better 😭😭
As someone who's only seen clips I AGREE
Right
@ville__no
They not on her level 😂
Jackie was high key running away lmaooo 😂
I don’t like how Vampire Diaries wasn’t mentioned with the brother love triangle that was my first time seeing it. And hated it since 💀
LIKEWISE.
Vampire Diaries had me RAGING while people were like "yayyy Delena😍"
RUMI YOUR INTRO SKSJSHSKSYWWH 😭😭😭
they only get more unserious HAHAHAHAHA
I honestly think she has been to my mom's apartment more often than me!
yeah, it’s gonna be awkward in tsitp when j*remiah finds out what happened since he gets so angry easily, it’s kinda weird.
@@realestsienna you're clearly a jere hater so I'm not gonna really go back and forth with you. But yeah it's definitely gonna be awkward, but I don't think Jeremiah will care.
Belly and Jeremiah are definitely gonna bang too in season 3 so that's just make it so much worse.
Not that I'm planning on watching that season tho
@@SammyLammy1D Fr! Limits need to be set I don't see how people in these situations don't realize how weird it is or just excuse themselves out of it
I remember this making its way through Wattpad when I was 14…. I’m 25 now, I remember reading the OG Walter Brothers booking and loving it. Looking back it was very problematic.
ijbol this is actually a huge guilty pleasure trope for me - but NOT with brothers ew straight people. give me dating a guy and secretly pining for his sister. give me yearning for your brother's girlfriend. the angst. the drama. the projecting. the bi panic. *chef's kiss*
yessssssssss!
Omg thank you!!! The worst part is when they go back and forth between the brothers. Like, stand UP
tsitp is okay but mlwtwb is pretty weird because she is kind of being adopted by their mom and is like she has a crush on her brothers
the movie "Crush" has a Sapphic sister love triangle. It's just as overdone and predictable as the brothers version of the trope, but it does exist.
No but I love how the one sister immediately backed off when she realized the other liked this girl and then supported them and while its still a bit weird, I feel like its loads better than these brother triangles 😭😭
The summer I turned pretty is pretty weird because if you think about it the 3 of them grew up like cousins
10:24 i feel that way about Chris and Lola
Same. I didn't know if it was just the actors or the characters themselves but their chemistry is so lackluster.

OMG THE CHLÖE INTRO but also I cannot stand this trope because I end up hating both of the love interests and don’t want the Main character to end up with either of them
TVD was such a great example of this. That was my show!
“Or one brother just doesn’t have chemistry with the main character at all” the shade💀
Also the sapphic movie "Crush" on Hulu also had a somewhat love triangle with 2 sister's and the main girl.
There's no emoji that could describe my face when belly kissed jeremiah... like that literally traumatized me
this trope is weird as h*ll!!! its giving inc*st low keyyyyyy
Ikr? I used to read it on wattpad, especially Harry Potter fanfics with the Wesley's. But even 11 year old me found it weird AF and understood its tacky
@@SammyLammy1D nasty work!
especially in the walter boys because THEIR PARENTS ARE HER GUARDIANS
Sabrina! An old classic. Idk if it was discussed in the video but that predates vampire diaries.
14:26 this exists. It's called Crush starring Rowan Blanchard and Auliʻi Cravalho
it’s also in the vampire diaries..but they do it so well
thank you, that love triangle actually handled it way better and this isn’t me being biased. at least we as the audience could understand how hard it was for elena to choose and she didn’t necessarily go back & forth unlike *cough cough, stomach conklin and even jackie too* cause why’re you playing hot potato with two brothers when you clearly only want one (always the older, bad boy brother)☠️ it’s weird… it’s just like “i can’t have him so i’ll settle for you.”
Thank gosh someone brought this up
Even more crazy when you find out this was based off a vampire diaries fanfic
THANK YOU I have hated this trope for so long and I swear I've seen it everywhere (imo even Stranger Things fits it now with El being Will's sister now but him also crushing on Mike...) it's so uncomfortable
3:54 now don't call us out 😭😭😭
As soon as I saw the title of this video, Vampire Diaries immediately came to mind. TVD made me aware of The Brothers Love Triangle Trope. I blame the Petrova Dopplegangers from Tatia to Elena for that. It is weird...I need a shower now.
PERFECT UPLOAD cause ive wondered this since the vampire diaries 😂
Also my cousin is in the my life with the walter boys, (Ashby Gentry)
"crush" is a sister sapphic love triangle!!!

Couldn’t stop thinking about the kissing booth the entire time.
i was genuinely surprised when he didn't mentioned the vampire diaries as one of the most iconic examples of this trope that had all of us on a chokehold back then
Vampire Diaries revamped. Plussss I'm ALWAYS like dude or girl : PICK ONE. It ain't THAT deep to choose a sibling.
they always want the older brother too but go back and forth with both as if the choice isn’t obvious? it’s mad weird 😭😭
omg elite love triangles be vexing me so much. it’s mostly sibling too. samu/marina/fernando (samu’s excon brother) or ari/ivan/patrick then there was the samu/guzman/ ari and ander/omar/patrick 😂
I've only seen some clips of the Walter boys show but it's already pissed me off to the point i wont be watching anymore. Like blonde haired brother sucks
Good choice. That show made me lose my last half of a braincell...
You’re not missing out on anything. Blondie is the typical misogynist, conceited jerk who’s poor behavior we are expected to excuse because he’s “had it rough, lately” 🙄
Usually the family already have issues that come to light though this love triangle
Rggency, I love your videos!! I was wondering if you could watch One Day & Anne With An E and review those!
the kn95!!! also ty for this video. the show that takes it the furthest is the vampire diaries imo.. pffffft
Wait there is a sapphic love triangle, it’s called crush on Hulu actually kinda good
Brother/sibling triangles usually means that there will likely always be tension between the brothers/siblings. It's just wrong.
The movie Crush on hulu is a cute little sapphic high-school love triangle with sisters.
like healthy relationships are not boring….
I think the only good things about it is that everyone on the love triangle has a connection, the brothers being connected adds an interesting factor.
the intro ATE
U forgot THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. For me it was the first extremely weird brother trope! Never understood how can a brother do this to their own brother?? It’s the girls fault also obviously but where’s the bro code. In India the girl would instantly become bhabhi and the guys brother will be her brother as well, making this trope MORE WEIRD in my head.
as a person who’s lived out this trope it really do be hard 😞, i chose the older brother
girl- that’s teaaa
But that was possible because it was a fantasie, i don't know if a fiction could pull that off
Just subscribed to your channel. Loved your video so much!!! ❤
Brighton season 2 is a sister love triangle but Edwina is clueless half the time
I feel like this is a crazy trope if it were to happen in real life ..... because like why would you want to do things with a girl that your sibling has already done something with (just a thought)
It’s very strange, I remember thinking this way back when with Vampire Diaries. Don’t mind the watch but it’s tired. I’m tired. Urgh!
the intro got it 😂😂😂
Sisters fighting over a girl love triangles: Crush with Rowan Blanchard, and the show Legacies (but to get there you have to suffer through brother love triangles)
Unless you’re in Elena Gilbert’s situation, there’s no need to be fighting over brothers. I’ll allow it in supernatural stories.
Even Elena's was annoying 😭
@@wanjanjamaVampire Diaries was the worst offender. They're literally the reason why the brother love triangle is still sadly going.
I dont get because if you are one of the brothers, how do yall feel good knowing the girl doesnt like you enough to choose you right off the jump lol

another one is bash, mary, and francis from reign. they even promoted the series as this huge love triangle when in reality the love triangle was killed half a season in... they promoted it that way bc they knew people would be here for it. 🤣
I ALWAYS thought this trope was so weird!! Even when I read the Summer I Turned Pretty series in like late middle/early high school. I finished the last book and I still remember thinking: wtf was that?!?! According to reddit (which I know has its own problems), this happens in real life, and I have never been so glad that I only have a brother, so this shouldn't be an issue.
