    RIP Otake Risuke Sensei. He left an incredible legacy to future students and ensured that a cultural treasure of Japan will be preserved for a very long time.

    Whats the point of learning if your not going to use it if your in a life and death situation?

    • @christianv-h3278
      @christianv-h3278 4 года назад +3

      The founder of TSKSR stated that fighting with this art should be as a last resort - and that those who learn the art shouldn't be the ones to start or engage a fight. I doubt that you'd be banned from practicing if you used TSKSR as a last resort way of protecting yourself in a life-or-death situation.

      What's the purpose of playing football if you aren't going to be in the Premiere league?
      What's the purpose of playing video games if you aren't gonna do it competitively?
      What's the purpose of drawing or painting if you aren't going to turn pro?
      Some people do things simply because they find them enjoyable.

      You have to fight to understand. I think that this art may not teach it as physically as others, but when you spar with someone and they whoop your ass, you learn something.
      It humbles you, you realize death is only one bladestroke or punch away for some people. It puts things into perspective. The practice of techniques that build muscle and must be performed with absolute precision, it's just very satisfying.
      To be then bested by someone who has put even more diligence and practice into the same skill, it allows you to feel tremendous respect for other people in a way you couldn't unless they beat you. I don't practice these arts which became more "spiritual" as swordfighting drew to a close completely in Japan. I see some on RUclips like Asayama Ichiden Kai who spar in pairs. Being put under someone else's sword can humble you and make you see life much differently when you think about it a little.
      I train with a heavy oar bokken, a wooden sword. Am I ever going to be killing someone with a 2kg sword? No. Does it help my grip strength on the bar for lifting weights and feel enjoyable? Yes. The point of learning how to fight well is to build the discipline to ensure you are physically and mentally ready if it happens - but ultimately, to ensure that fighting is never necessary at all.
      The O-Sensei tells us "Whilst we learn techniques for killing, we must never use them". here in this video.

      @@kimonowolfno you actually play video games, play sports etc. This activity is never to be performed ever ie the act of cutting, it's like doing football tryouts but never actually playing.

    • @kimonowolf
      @kimonowolf Год назад +1

      @@CornellD.Cavendish And you actually practise martial arts. The goal is the practise itself, refinement of movement, not using it to chop another person's arm or whatever.
