I always get chills when I hear John Hurt say the words "Great men are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser men to light to flame, whatever the cost." Such a great actor
David and Matt seemed delighted to play alongside him. They were very generous, you can even see it in the programme! Likewise, John Hurt, that brilliant actor, created a marvellous contrasting older Doctor. Instantly one of my favourites, along with Tom, Patrick, William, Paul, etc etc! John Hurt has left us a great body of work across many media, a fine legacy indeed. Let's celebrate his memory ;D
'I am the Doctor again.' Lovely note to end upon. Excellent tribute! Sir John Hurt was a mighty fine Doctor, a wonderful actor and a real treasure. He will be missed.
Rest Soldier, your war is over, you’ve won, you’ll never be forgotten, Gallifrey stands once again because of your honour and bravery soldier! We salute you! (R.I.P John Hurt) Thank you for your wonderful caring role my man :,)
RIP John Hurt. you may be gone from this world ,but we shall meet with you in another world in near future . A wonderful man with pure and utter Grace with everything that he did. He portrayed such a class act in everything that he did and said ,whilst bringing true thought and emotion in every role that he played. John Hurt was one of a kind ,a special actor . We don't get them like this anymore. A pure spark of genius and wonder has been lost from this world ,but it has appeared in the another for whom we shall too be joining very very soon. RIP John Hurt, you were pure perfection
I'll never be able to watch this without crying bucket now. Before it was just cups of tears. But they were more being moved and touched emotionally and missing Matt and David. Now there will be a touch of pure grief in there too, for the man who was The Doctor "...on the day it was impossible to get it right." But Sir John was amazing in so many other things too.
Really nice tribute to such a sad passing. When I heard the news yesterday morning I started work on a tribute video myself which I hope to be out today. Again great work in such short amount of time. 🙂 - GF97
Although the War Doctor is only introduced in the 50th Anniversary, he remains one of the finest Doctors ever in the history of Doctor Who. May Hurt rest in peace :(
John Hurt's doctor is supposed to be the younger one in terms of timeline, and yet he made it look like grandpa telling his two naughty grandsons to behave when he told them to put away the screwdrivers. He got one episode, and he has the strongest aura of all Doctors. Just an amazing actor. R.I.P John Hurt.
Great to see so many excellent tributes to this most fine actor popping up on YT today, from his many, many fans. Stephen Moffat produced gold for the 50th anniversary, by having John Hurt as the Doctor. Hooray for John's Big Finish works, too! What a fine legacy he's bequeathed us all ;D
We were so fortunate to have him join this journey, at such an important, indelible, landmark point in the canon. Just the sound of his voice was perfectly evocative of the War Doctor's pain, and transformation. This role seemed to really mean something to him, perhaps so late in his own career. It certainly meant something very important to us. Now the legions of DW fans can keep his memory forever, with deep appreciation, along with all our lost heroes and heroines.
And to think he was cheering me up from my depression, watching that Spaceballs clip. It proved what a good-natured, decent chap he was, just appearing in that, for a cameo. He was so down to Earth!
Thank you for this nice tribute to Sir John Hurt. Incidentally, could you also do trailers for Dr. Who's Wilderness Years homages and spinoffs including Devious?
Before "The Day of the Doctor" David Tennant was my favorite Doctor. After, John Hurt became my favorite Doctor. Now, he is still my favorite Doctor. I'm trying to find the audiotape he made as the War Doctor.
0:29. I love this shot. While Clara and the other 2 Doctors are worrying about the situation, John Hurt is casually leaning on the railing. Human stupidity blocking the Black Archives while Zygons try to conquer Earth? Childs play. These whippersnappers have no idea who they're dealing with. That aura of quiet command is far more powerful than Peter Capaldi's overblown ranting and self-indulgent speeches. Until I travel to the alternate universe where this actually happened, I will always be pissed off that John Hurt didn't do Seasons 8 and 9. They would have been the greatest era in New Who and a VERY strong contender for the greatest in Doctor Who history if Hurt and Jenna Coleman worked together. Same scripts, same character arcs, same supporting cast, just get rid of Peter Capaldi. Take the "You let me down!" speech for example. Peter Capaldi made it sound like the most self-righteous and hypocritical speech the Doctor has delivered in a very long time, even descending to the level of outright gaslighting Clara when he turned to her and snarled "Cut out the whining" after spending the scene doing exactly that. It completely undermined "Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference." Great line on paper but Capaldi was the wrong man to say it. Now put John Hurt in that scene and watch a real master at work. He would have delivered it softly, no shouting, no anger, no self-righteousness, just quiet disappointment and guilt. The line "I was curious to see how far you would go" confirmed that he was knew this would happen so the Doctor was NOT innocent in this situation. Hurt would have had the demeanour of a man who was blaming himself as much as Clara, so instead of trying to make her feel worse than she already did, he would have quietly told her how disappointed he was, then tried to cheer her up by teasing that her eyes seemed to inflate - Capaldi delivered it like an insult while Hurt would have said it with the affection of a grandfather - and then muttered "Cut out the whining" to HIMSELF to get his head in the game as he prepared to save Danny. We were robbed. The biggest mistake Steven Moffat made in Doctor Who was choosing Peter Capaldi instead of throwing as much money as necessary at John Hurt to get him to do Seasons 8 and 9. I don't think Hurt would have been unreasonable with his pay checks because he acted for fun, not for money. If Moffat had asked him to do Seasons 8 and 9, with the same scripts, companion, villains and supporting characters, there's a good chance he would have agreed, with the only condition being that all the physical activity be left to the younger cast. He may not have lived long enough to do Season 10 but ending with The Husbands of River Song wouldn't be a bad way to go out.
He had one episode and a cameo. And he's every bit the Doctor smith or tennant is to me. Rest well Sir John hurt, gallifrey falls no more.
"Gallifrey falls no more"
Chibnall: are you sure?
He called himself not the Doctor, but he had the best catchphrase of any Doctor: "Gallifrey stands!"
Nah, it's "I am The Doctor again."
Or perhaps "for God's sake"
Well actually It's no more
Even though he was the doctor for the shortest time, he really owned that role.
Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster Think you was meant to say that John REALLY owned the part BIG TIME. RIP.
He is sadly missed.
He's gone to join the First, Second and Third Doctors up in heaven. Rip John Hurt, you're going to be missed
Also don't forget Sarah Jane Smith, and Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Agreed
I always get chills when I hear John Hurt say the words "Great men are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser men to light to flame, whatever the cost."
Such a great actor
Scine Bamm That line was made for John Hurt. I don’t think anyone else could have pulled it off like he did.
John Hurt as The Doctor has added so much to the legend. A very fine actor, indeed ;D
Love how Tennant/Smith seemed happy with him in films. They seemed big fans.
David and Matt seemed delighted to play alongside him. They were very generous, you can even see it in the programme! Likewise, John Hurt, that brilliant actor, created a marvellous contrasting older Doctor. Instantly one of my favourites, along with Tom, Patrick, William, Paul, etc etc! you were the Doctor on the day it wasn't possible to get it right!
No doctor, I’m the DOCTOR,
@@ApexGorilla1 you maybe a doctor. but i am THE doctor. the definitive article, you might say
50 years and we've only lost 4 doctors. Astounding.
'I am the Doctor again.' Lovely note to end upon. Excellent tribute! Sir John Hurt was a mighty fine Doctor, a wonderful actor and a real treasure. He will be missed.

A Doctor never really dies.
He cures himself.
Really nice tribute to such a sad passing. When I heard the news yesterday morning I started work on a tribute video myself which I hope to be out today. Again great work in such short amount of time. 🙂 - GF97

1:18 John hurt brought such humanity to the doctor in this scene, he was perfect for the war doctor. R.I P.

MrSontaran3 The ONLY decent thing that Moffat has done for Doctor Who.
Today's TV Doctor Who is more like very short stories, than novels :D
Excellent Tribute! Well edited and a great pick for the soundtrack. I know music of that artist well!
R.I.P John Hurt. You've finally regenerated. We're gonna miss you. Rest now my doctor. My War Doctor...
This will forever be one of my fav episodes!

What I did, I did with out choice and the name of sanity and peace
I am glad he had a chance to do some Big Finish audios as the War Doctor
And to think he was cheering me up from my depression, watching that Spaceballs clip. It proved what a good-natured, decent chap he was, just appearing in that, for a cameo. He was so down to Earth!
Goodnight Doctor
Oh, that ending, it warms my heart, but makes me cry :'/
Such a short time as the Doctor, but forever in our hearts, & no they are not Walter ppk's, sorry if I got that bit wrong, long live the war Doctor.
Thank you for this nice tribute to Sir John Hurt. Incidentally, could you also do trailers for Dr. Who's Wilderness Years homages and spinoffs including Devious?

Yeah, but as Dutch person it's difficult to understand for me !.
the 1 that regrets, and the 1 that forgets...
Cool
I had wondered how long it would take for this sort of vid to pop up on RUclips
He wore a bit thin that's all.
Now he is one with time, transcended into eternity, traveling realms beyond the ken of mortal men.
