On my 1st ship, the dancers were crew and did lifeboat drills etc. Also, sell raffle tickets, bingo books, mileage pool and sell the Cruise Director's CDs, and do the welcome aboard on the gangplank etc. On P&O Cruises, dancers were (as Amy says) contracted to the theatre company, and had passenger/officer status onboard. No drills, own cabins with a porthole some of them, allowed in the wardroom and officer's mess, although hangovers not allowed, and definitely no fraternising with (crew) musicians! They work hard though, a lot of rehearsals and pressure, and must be fit. Singers too, most of them. I knew one who got Assistant Cruise Director on P&O after she hung up her ballet shoes.
This was delightful. The guest dancer was so charming and bubbly with enthusiasm. You can see how much she enjoys what she does. Lucy, you have a wonderful, very informative and fun to watch series. Best wishes. My wife and I have been on over 50 cruises. Perhaps will catch you on one some day.
All these videos are so interesting, we have been on many cruises as passengers and these videos tell us so much information that we often wondered about. Well done Lucy. Good health and happiness to you. Xxx
@@Janeedsleep12345 so a person from the UK has to file own tax return but do they actually need to pay tax was my question as i have heard that if working so many months on ship theres no requirement to pay tax? im not sure if this is accurate though
@@nicolamcallister9356 It really varies especially from country to country! I work on a ship and I'm from Australia. I do pay taxes to Australia for my income earnt onboard so I can keep access to the medicare healthcare system over here and other resident gov benefits. I've heard of friends who did their tax with an accountant and they somehow didn't pay taxes as they lodged themselves as a "non-resident for tax purposes only" because they only had income from ships overseas but then when covid hit, they didn't have access to the medicare benefits (cheaper healthcare) and they couldn't receive government unemployment payments when they couldn't work on ships.

You are an excellent interviewer. Great questions. Keeping control of the conversation without interrupting. Not everyone is good at it.
Lucy. you are so expressive reacting to her comment, it really charming.
