Two different scenarios though. The first one is just a fight, the second one is getting a deadly disease. And Shaq probably doesn't know what it is like to deal with a borderline person. Em knows because of Kim. It's not just rage or emotional fluctuation. BPDs literally treat you like the love of their life, 5 minutes later you become a piece of shit for no reason whatsoever. One minute they seem motherly and affectionate, the next minute they are like a 5 year old. You can get kicked out of the house and half hour later they beg you to go back because you're the only one to save them from suicide. You want to kill them for a moment, then you can't help but want to protect them. They cheat, they don't even know why they do it, they usually don't even enjoy sex (their mind is too blurred to focus), it's like giving a candy to a child who will not even realize what you are doing to his/her body while they are happy with the candy. They let others abuse them this way, then they feel bad, come back to you crying, you can't even talk about it because they get pissed and start talking like you are the cheater, and you even feel bad because you feel like you are an abuser yourself, they look so sincere when you are together that you forget all the shit she did, then she'll abuse you and you'll hate her again. They are in a constant state of drowsiness, they abuse drugs on top of it to relieve their pain and emotional outbursts, which makes it worse and even easier for others to abuse them. You can't leave them alone for one second, they'll somehow believe you are gone for good, they'll feel abandoned, look for a hug, and momentarily forget about you until they feel awake and call you again, or until you call them again (I'm talking about just a few hours of solitude, not days or something). It is hard to let go, and it is harder to get out of it with a solid mind, especially if you already had a troubled mind to begin with, like Em. He might be borderline himself, but probably not a severe case, he couldn't have been so successful at his job or so consistently empathetic in family/friend relationships if he was. I hope Shaq doesn't fall in love with someone like that before it is too late. Once in my life I would have also been shocked with the thought of hitting a woman, pregnant or not. I still never hit my own bpd girl, but it was always too hard to restrain myself. And after I could finally leave her for good, it took a while to get back to that innocent, healthy mindset again. She still texts me blaming for all the people she had unprotected sex after me, for abandoning her, for never truly loving her, etc., but she was doing all that while I was with her too. Now I know it is not about me at all.
