- Demo of an ENGL Screamer 50 tube guitar combo (serial 202035 for anyone who wishes to find out which year it is)! We're playing it with a 1969 Fender Stratocaster and a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Custom. We're recording it with a 1970s Unidyne IV 548 close mic and a 1970/80s Sennheiser MD421U5.
Wicked. The Les Paul through it was a match made in heaven. Truly makes you realize and comprehend how amps are designed around certain guitars, or a particular sound. Didn’t expect to hear those fender cleans at the end though. Never ever heard of this one so thanks....how many times has it been?-you open the ears! A man, after my own ear drum. Had AC/DC’s ‘High Voltage land in my lap, a brand new cassette no less......protected from time and teenagers. I don’t think I’ve been that transported by a recording in a long while.
That amp is properly named by ENGL, it really screams, great demo by Simon, thanks for sharing, Johan
Thanks man!
Cool saturation sounds but I was hoping for some legendary Johan riffs!
I see metal guitar players use Engl heads, but never have I seen a combo from them before. Excellent for the power riffing demonstrated here. Thanks for testing this one out!
Hi, Johan!
Thanks for the ENGL, it's allways better to see one more example. Maybe it was a little lite gained, but next time I hope, you will blow my speakers!!! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
See you next week
Zigfrid
Have a great one you too Zigfrid!
One of my three favorite amps, so great to hear it from you guys!!!!
Glad to hear it!
Hi Johan, nothing less than brilliant, Simon's play of course. As for the ENGL and having own one several years ago, I never thought It could sound so good. Have a nice hot weekend and keep safe. Cheers.
When everything's all the way to 11, sometimes you need a little leg shake to get you one louder. 1:30
Wow. Both of those guitars sounded great in both clean and overdriven settings. Simon's playing is quite aggressive and rocking!
Engl amps are great i own a engl rockmaster it sounds great
There is all the gain within engl amps. No more distortion/overdrive/fuzz/boost pedals needed, just switch channels.
The don't sound like a marshall though
I had the head back in 2002. Think I was one of the first in USA to have one. Loved it. It is a Screamer. Sold it to a Guy name Pistol Pete in Chicago. He now makes it Scream lol
Thanks for showcasing this little beast. Seems like a very versatile amp, especially liked the classic rock tone with the lp. I was just hoping to hear a little of Johan, too.
Johan, I can't find any information on dating Engl amps, however you can probably send them an email and hope to hear back. I also can't find any amp catalogs online either, so it's kind of a mystery as to when this amp was actually produced.
Sweet rock and roll tone! Could be happy with that amp the Les Paul Custom. 😎👍
Engl amps are built to last ! It truly scream. !!! 😍👍
Screamer... It most certainly lives up to its name! Not really my cup of tea, but it is absolutely a well crafted and excellent amp if this is the sound you are looking for. No too bad price tag either 1200 bucks is not bad for this beast!
I actually was curious about engl thunder but they all sound great.
I had a Thunder 50 for 5 years, toured a lot with it. Sounded great and was built like a tank. I replaced a preamp 12ax7 for a mullard, making it sound more marshally. Really miss that amp.
As the other guy said itbis a great and solid amp. I had one too, used it a lot and it never disappointed. No more gain pedals are needed.
However it does sound like engl and if you are like me and prefer the marshall tone, you will never be really satisfied with thst thing. I ended up trading it for a jcm 2000 and would definatly do again. It sounded a little fizzy to me if used in clean settings. I have that feeling with almost all engl amps. But man... they do have all the gain
This site is so useful. Where else can I have access to prime vintage tone demonstrations 😋 the engl I didn’t care for 😛 interestingly turning down the down on the strat seemed to improve it 😋 what year is it? How much does it cost?
That tone! Eargasmic!
Have you tried their Retro Tube series of amps?
Thanks! No not yet!
Johan, I know maybe everyone would laugh but I'd be really interested to hear you compare a Celestion A-type to an old M Greenback: the A-type has an M magnet, lots of low mid and not much high frequency and sounds very dark compared to modern greenbacks but I just wonder...😉
Hi Nick, we’ll do that if we get the chance
There's a reason why Ritchie Blackmore went with Engl for his sig amps. Gone are the days of cranking 200W Marshall Majors.
Amp sounds fantastic.
Kraut tone! \m/
I would love to plug my Esquire or my Telecaster into that Beast👹Rock on Johan 🤟
Rock on Tim!
Always thought Engl amps sounded very good. They seem to sound even better than I remember when Simon's plugged in to one. Cheers!
Glad to hear it, Cheers!
I believe that has had a speaker change as both Screamers I’ve owned had Vintage 30’s in them.
Early versions had V12-80s in them.
@@blajost I don't play heavy metal. Do you think this speaker is better for blues / rock? I am looking for a used one. I read that this V60 is considered a cheap speaker. But also that the V30 tends to emphasize the highs. PS. Sorry about my english
@@NicolasMcLoughlin007 Here we are talking about the V12-80 speaker, which is different from the V60. Some Screamers were loaded with V60s too but I have no experience with them. Overall, for blues / rock I would tend to prefer the V12-80 over the V30.
Well done Simon! Great demo and Tones! Is that a black and gold RD Artist hanging on the wall? Thanks for sharing Brothers and Have a great weekend! Be Well All!
Thanks man, yeah it is indeed with active pickups. Have a great weekend!
Could you all play that black rd artist hanging on the wall! Please I have the same guitar sitting in the case from 77 and I can’t bring myself to sell it but it doesn’t sound that good when I play it and I know y’all would make it sound good and make me wanna play it
Summer in Sweden!
Righteous!
Like it on the Strat !
Awesome!
Moi j'avais la seconde version et il ne sonnait aussi bien que ça.
how are you getting those jangly tones out of that guitar?
Is the fireball or e650 on your list as well?
Please don't do the Thunder 50 Reverb. I still would like to find one under 500 bucks used. Thank you.
The jangly strat tone at the end almost sounds kinks-ish
Sorry sounds somewhat thin to me. And Johan: get it on!
Killer!
great sound from such a small cabinet, but... does it Djent? :P
What tubes are in it?
Your accent is a sufficient reason to watch your videos. XD
Cheers ;-)
It’s Gothenburg accent
Not really my taste. Very clear and cold, almost clinical through the bass and mids, but rather brittle and edgy at the top end. I thought it suited the Strat better than the Les Paul, and I preferred the clean tones to the overdriven sounds. I would want to EQ this to tame the top end and warm up the mids, if possible. Better suited for later styles of metal than for '70s hard rock and metal.
Definitely a screamer.
Engl ha?? I thought they made only cars...wtf !
Camp fridges! LOL! Oh, wait... that's ENGEL!
I actually prefer BMW .......!
@@KK-hp5bl Horrible cars! (Driven by horrible people vre!)
Ok not bad but when it comes to engl I always picture some bald headed German speaking dude with no style!
