Good Ending translation: After defeating final boss: Finally, the Boss of Shadows "Super Skel-Monsta" has been defeated! Yes, the final battle is over. He planned to keep the captured people imprisoned forever, but thanks to you, the curse of the "Bubble Dragon" is no more! Thank you, Bubby! With your help, peace has returned to this world. Bad Ending 2 translation (didn't get all 7 big diamonds): The adventure in the Rainbow Islands is over! And you've managed to collect lots of treasure! you've reached your goal...... But then, the mountain of treasure fell over... "What! This is...!"... You found a letter for help from "The people of the Rainbow Islands"! We've all been captured by the "Boss of Shadows", and turned into "Bubble Dragons". When the 7 big diamonds have been gathered, the hidden islands will rise up. That's where he's hiding! +124scratch For years the best, then in Japan Rainbow Islands Extra got ported to FM Towns Marty, and when I tried it out a few years ago, the quality blew me away. Pretty much the same way this did, and eventually got added to my collection (the FTM RIE is far too expensive to get these days now).
@@Bloodreign1 The Mega Drive port is the one which was the best for years (it was released in 1990) up until the FM Towns port was released in 1992. The PC Engine CD port was released *after*, in 1993, so it never was "the best". Just to be precise ;)
@@ryzmaker11 The PC Engine and FM Towns versions are the best, the MD version is missing too much stuff to be called perfect (even if it did come out first, it got surpassed by the FM Towns and PCE CD versions). I own this version, and the MD version as well, glad to have the MD version, but the lack of certain elements disappoints me to that port. Sorry, but the MD versions music is also fairly weak going against 2 CD systems capable of reproducing the exact same music as the arcade.
For it's time the best home port of Rainbow Islands outside the FM Towns version of RI Extra. Sorry Amiga fans, this one had all 10 worlds, arcade music, and all secrets. This one also had the Japanese J-Pop ending song, something oddly added to this one (likely for just the CD format). This is one I proudly own, no regrets as a friend managed to get this one for cheap for me.
Apparently the programmers for the Amiga version were constrained by the publisher (Ocean) insisting that the game fit on one disc instead of the two that would've been necessary for a completely accurate conversion. Insane!

Electric Fan from Darius Gaiden was sort of a personal meme because it was such a hilarious boss. I couldn't stop cracking up that it's in this game too.
After watching videos of the various versions, this might be the only one where items don't disappear after a few seconds if not collected, which actually gives you a chance to actually get a majority of the items that are hidden, since uncovering them only gives you a few seconds to get them in all other versions, and diamonds don't vanish if you miss a jump and fall a little, wasting time.
There used to be a video from someone from Japan who posted the lyrics in English on their video, but I think the video is long, long gone. The song is called Fly Away.

MAME is emulating loads of different arcade hardware. There's loads of different arcade hardware out there. Since the PC Engine is a stand-alone console not based on any arcade hardware (as far as I know) all PC Engine games were rewritten for the console. But it's about roughly on par with the Megadrive and Snes.

What you call glitchiness is a sign from the game that rainbows are about to break, they only last for so long before they break. That's why in some laces, like DOH Island, when rainbows are your only platforms to the top of the level, you must be fast to go upward building multiple rainbow bridges, or you'll go right back downward instead.

First of all, Bubble Dragons, not dinos. Second of all, the series creator, Fukio Mitsuji, did not believe in making the same game twice, hence why he changed things up for this sequel.
