Hi. To help some of you out, Tim's bridge pickup was damaged when we did the recording and we didn't have time to get it fixed properly, so we used gaffa tape to hold it in place. The guitar he's using is a Patrick Eggle Berlin (I think) and the amp is a 150W Engl Invader.
Stu is the guy who isn't afraid to mess up a little bit just to portray his true passion for the music. Henry is perfectly practiced but I kind of feel like he isn't completely absorbed in the emotions like Stu. Then again he plays and sings infinitely more difficult parts, like Tim, which I suppose requires complete concentration. That's what I like about the best rock groups today like these guys. It ain't about the drugs or sex anymore, it's about writing the best music you can, music that requires you to be an orchestra level musician, just in a rock setting. Guys like Buckethead, Rick Graham, Nick Johnston, etc. also exemplify that
God I wish Stu had been on the audiotree shows. The sound/mixing here aint good and Stu is a star. There's not enough decent TTNG live footage from this era
I still can't comprehend the impeccable timing Tim has when they come out of that final break of And I'll Tell You For Why. Thought on record it's definitely 2 guitar tracks...but he still does it perfectly live. Dude just kicks off the distortion, drops the pick, and starts finger-tapping the main riff for a couple finals bars all in basically a micro-second. Seriously...my brain can't switch gears that fast, let alone my fingers.
@@AbsoluteAbsurd That's true. He could've just use his thumb for that, but I thought it looked like he actually uses a pic for the distorted guitar in chorus. Idk. Probably the only time/song he would've.
@@AbsoluteAbsurd I don't doubt it. I watched the guy use a banjo capo along with a normal capo to only cover select additional strings for Baboon and finger tap around them. Dude's insane. This one is actually easier in terms of a lot of his songs.
Literally. TTNG changed how I viewed music. Got me into so many other amazing bands that are similar and other heavier math rock bands like don caballero and Hella
Same and now I write because of them 😭😭 this needs to be the new normal cuz this music is beautifully structured and not even having to try to be mainstream. They got “IT”. Glad I was able to see them live a handful of times and when they did Animals Anniversary tour
Seriously. I'm so annoyed I only found them in 2021 😭😭 I needed this during high school big time. Them, Enter Shikari, and Saosin. I missed out on all of them....Fucking hell.
this performance is magical and far beyond, i have no words to describe how good this is and how much i've enjoyed it over the years, best rendition of both songs there is, this is just special
It was so damn good. Probably the best live show I’ve ever been to. Played the whole of Animals plus some extras on the end, unforgettable night. Hope they come back soon.
Hugely relatable for me. Except if I got to his live vocal stress level, my voice would've blown out during the performance. Somehow he was still able to fucking hit notes at most other points, and that blows my damn mind. I only just found this video, and I'm already in love with how raw it all is, but that it still goes so fucking hard 😭🔥🔥🔥
That later section of "And Ill Tell You For Way" sounded a little bit like the "Panda" intro. These Collis brothers are just absolutely incredible and Stu's "WOO" at 6:25 was perfectly placed.
So summer's here again and like children, we run around these streets at night to find both solace and confusion. Too late to try our concience clear. Hold on to tight. Our hair crimson in, the street light, sunlight glow. Never forget what we shared cos promises were never enough for us. So here's to romance and hot summer nights. Walking through tall grass, there's safety in here tonight we lay down and watch the stars collide. Never forget what we shared cos promises were never enough for us.
6:04 would love to hear this ("so let's carry oooooooooon...") part sung live at 100%. Dude's voice was too beat up to pull it off. I usually lightly sing it falsetto since it's hard to pull off well otherwise unless you got the pipes for it
I wish Stu still played guitar for the Animals album, he added such subtle awesomeness that accentuated Tim (is that the main guiatarist's name?) complexity
@TheGerthax yeah, like what that other guy said...i put my own pickups in and didn't ground it right so I use duct tape to isolate the metal parts from my fingers so it doesn't buzz
i was referring to giraffes! giraffes? but tbh in the oxford math rock scene so are these guys, depends what you classify as big, i would say they are big in terms of the scene their in and the music their making
@ccaslin6 sometimes the strings can get caught under the rim of the pickup which kinda ruins everything when playing live lol. Steve Vai also does this.
@TheGerthax Its not actually covering the coils. He probably sourced some he liked better than those that came with the guitar and they dont fit perfectly, so the tape stops them slipping forward or jiggling. LIttle jiggles would result in extra unwanted noise.
In a sense, this band can be considered experimental.. if youve been turning an ear towards lots of mainstream artists This branch of "experimental" can be considered Math Rock What you must be entranced by are the guitar playing styles that the guitarist is using In fact, lots of other bands have been picking up on this style: Giraffes? Giraffes!, Ghosts and Vodka, and Minus The Bear are a few who use these techniques Other math rock bands include Toe, Pele, and such.
@TheInevitableTaunt ... well if you listen to the first couple of 'YES' albums...you can hear the similarities...also 'be-bop deluxe'... some '10cc' ....'hatfield and the north'....lotsa similar 70's stuff....but like they say....history repeats itself...
@l337man4 yeah I know that. I'm saying for the Animals album, it would've been nice to have Tim going crazy as usual and Stu adding some more subtle stuff that accentuates his riffs

You guys are inspirational to my music! Thanks for your music 💕💕
come to brazil
Is there where I say I love you?❤
stu was so passionate. I kind of miss him. I do love Henry though

i dont think tim ever used a pick in his life xD

Ttng is music to my soul
Unreal how amazing this is
Thank you for making music

So true. I was the same age haha :) What a time for this music and other similar kinds of music though.

Oh hey dude fancy seeing you here
@@AudibleVisibIehm
Their rhythm section is really underrated.
I want that ride cymbal D:
excellent performance.
The scream that Stu does ending the first chorus it's just like AAAH so beautiful
tapping mania, what precision and skill even with the non tapped stuff. Tim Collis is awesome and so is the entire band and their music

STU COMING BACK FOR ANIMALS 10th anniversary TOUR
Was at their show in Chicago in 2018 it was so lit man first time I seen the whole band and they had their main lead singer with them
I missed this because of work. I wish now that I had gone. Makes me want to cry
and it was amazing :)
Who is happy that Stu's comming back for an anniversary tour?!!
really?
@@kipkipful yes! they're releasing an acoustic version of Animals this october, and Stu's gonna come back for the tour.
I'm so happy. It was never the same at all after he left
It was so damn good. Probably the best live show I’ve ever been to. Played the whole of Animals plus some extras on the end, unforgettable night. Hope they come back soon.
So bummed I missed the reunion tour. Been listening to these guys for like 12 years. Seen then several times live never with stu tho
great preformance.... the bassist looks so chill haha... just jammin... def one of my fav bands
Poor Stu's voice gets so tired gosh. I can't blame him at though. The vocals in these songs are killer.

harmony korine in the bass!
my favorite part of this video is the different styles of the band members, these guys are truly the best.
i think this needs to be watched multiple times, each time focusing on a different instrument.
Yep
2 of the best songs ever recorded
i just wish the pianist were playing here :(
this band is amazing its good to see a good indie band from england
That later section of "And Ill Tell You For Way" sounded a little bit like the "Panda" intro. These Collis brothers are just absolutely incredible and Stu's "WOO" at 6:25 was perfectly placed.
Totally, totally agree! Especially with the, "WOO!" It was adorable!
I re-watch the whole video if I notice that I didn't properly celebrate the woo
Reminds me of good days long passed

WTF IS THIS GUITAR MAN DOING !!! :OOO
I like how brown pants clapping guy is slightly smiling, looking up at the ceiling, little dance steps_clapping to his tiny hands' content
best british band in a long long time
awesome stuff...........indeed.
I'm 20 laying on a twin size mattress, used prior.
Sycamore street, October time/2013
Animals is incredible!
still one of the best to ever do it.
The good ol' days!
@TheXyaan He has a great voice. It's the way he sings, and the imperfections in his voice that make him a great singer.
oh man i love the ending
stu was so handsome
Yea
Definitely. I think they have a little Street Smart Cyclist, Algernon Cadwallader, and Maps and Atlases feel to them too.
the guitar work reminds me a great deal of Stewart's from Big Country. Wow.
I fucking love this band. They've been my new favorite!
Are there any other videos of This Town Needs Guns with Dan on bass anywhere on the internet???
There is brief footage of them recording animals and Dan is in that, as well as some very bad clips on their archives
15 years ago......someone plz hold me
drummer kicks ass, fuck ya.
I like this session version better than the album version, cuz its so uncut and authentic. Also, the vocals feel more passionate.
327 people brought guns to a town that needed them

classic
Corvette $$ 😍😍😍😍😍😍
sinful the talent of these dudes aren't more blown up, cameraman obviously never touched an instrument, collis' are genius.
Well hes a cameraman, not a musician
Tim is mixed way too low
I wish Stu still played guitar for the Animals album, he added such subtle awesomeness that accentuated Tim (is that the main guiatarist's name?) complexity
TIM IS FUCKING AMAZING
damn we are old now
it's in 5/4
two dotted crotchets followed by two regular crotchets, same kind of rhythm as the mission impossible theme tune.
This song the verse in in 5/4, prechorus measure in 8/4, chorus in 3/4 and 6/4
Dizastermaster such nerds, i love them
How can you learn to play in those time signatures?
I mean like whats the best way to learn to play in those time signatures?
please keep playing.
@xrickyisdead15x Yeah, the bassist covers part of the lead line, notice when he starts playing the part you hear is more prominent.
whats with british dudes and sad math rock
Everything
if you’re just criticizing why are you here?
It's all the rain.
dreary weather and tea makes sad music.
I live in a dreary place, we play angrier music from all the coffee and rum
personally i think and i'll tel you for why sounds so much better live then the album version
@TheGerthax yeah, like what that other guy said...i put my own pickups in and didn't ground it right so I use duct tape to isolate the metal parts from my fingers so it doesn't buzz
@Onimyst Yea, he had a kid. Nothing implied anyway. When someone leaves and you bring in someone new, that's a replacement.

@ccaslin6 because the pickup might not be installed properly, the tape probably keeps it from moving around.
This video is now 12 years old.
@Theonewhoclimbs28 They didn't "replace" him, if you're implying they didn't want him; he left to spend time with his family or something.
For sure :)
If you want, check out their label Big Scary Monsters Records, they have a TON of great bands similar to TTNG. Its a great label imo.
I'm still convinced Stu is secretly Matt Bellamy's nerdy brother
The cameraman refuses to focus on the lead guitar during the chorus of 26 is Dancier then 4.
WHYYYYY
@xrickyisdead15x It's the lead guitarist, being amazing
