  • "Elizabeth Warren has a message for any television personalities questioning the merits of increased financial regulation: You're wrong.
During a media tour last week to bring attention to a bill the Senator proposed with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and others aimed at preventing banks from making risky bets with Americans' savings, CNBC personality Brian Sullivan asked her to back his assertion that no law can prevent major bank busts.
'No that is just wrong,' Warren said in response."*
    Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

If the government quit creating all the moral hazards such as guaranteeing bank accounts with the FDIC as well as insuring mortgages combined with bail outs for the banks when things hit the fan. This would do way more good then bringing back Glass,Steagal.
Warren says she wants to fight the Big Banks but she won't even consider taking on their supplier ie The Federal Reserve.

Joey Joe Joe Bullseye. Back when the S&Ls were collapsing, I was a Libertarian, and it was obvious to me that Reagan had "deregulated" them exactly backwards. Rather than removing all regulations while keeping FSLIC guarantees in place as the Republicans did, a Libertarian Congress would have made FSLIC membership voluntary, and simply made sure everyone knew which institutions were Federally insured and which weren't.
Of course, even with Reagan's guaranteed-crisis setup, the damage could have been greatly reduced if the FSLIC had simply carried out its legal mandate to repay all lost deposits up to $400k and told the multi-million dollar depositors, "Sorry!"
These days, I'm a Warren Democrat, but I'd *still* be willing to make FDIC membership voluntary.

spartan44ga You should buy a book on basic writing grammar. Seriously, not only is the content of what you wrote dumb and pointless drivel, it looks like it was written by a two year old. Aside from the periods and question marks incorrectly used in the first line, you do not use any punctuation again for the whole passage. It sort of defeats any attempt at a point you're trying to make...of which you made none.

Ron Szekely How is stating a true native American an ad hominem attack? Elizabeth Warren checked the native American box in order to get special favor. She claimed it herself. That 1st reply was just restating what Elizabeth Warren herself claimed.
Doesn't it bug you that a true native American didn't get an acceptance letter into a university because of her obvious false claim to be native American?
She still refuses to take a DNA swab to prove her claim.

Gene Smolko "thats all you got".. You may think making false claims to advance your career is no big deal but not all of us feel the same way.
How about her fake support for the working man, pension systems, American families..etc. as stories come out during her Ma Senate race about her representing a mining company trying to stiff it's workers out of their pensions. But no one can hold her feet to the fire because that would be too mean, since she's a woman. You know, that whole "war on woman" thing the Dems created to silence any detractors.
How about stories pointing to her partnering with her brother to scoop and flip houses out of the hands of struggling families back in her home state during the worst of the recession. How about her practicing law in states she never took the bar exam in, claiming technicality . You can find these stories searching Ma. newspapers from back during her Senate campaign. Don't get me wrong. She says all the right things for my working man ears. I just think she is standing on her political soap box building an image that ultimately is powerless in the world of big banking and Washington. And did I mention I don't trust her? :)

Easing of regulation was passed through a Republican controlled senate towards the end of the Clinton administration, When Bush2 took office his appointees and the banking sub-comitees let the bankers create default swaps and cashed in and fucked everybody from home owners to retirees. You've got to be insane to hand this shit over too these assholes again. Canada is not in bed with there banks like America is. Get some facts.

She always believes in what she's doing, and she always has good data to support her ideas. +Adam Eraky No. Deregulation of Airlines and communications began during the Carter admin. BTW, Carter was not a big fan of deregulation. That was the brainchild of Congressional republicans, just as it was during the Clinton administration. You can always find some blue dog democrats, like Lieberman and Chris Dodd, or some DLC type Democrats, like Clinton, to go along with republican ideas, but the entire concept that "gov't is the enemy" and that deregulation is an economic panacea is a conservative republican concept, through and through. Deregulation legislation is ALWAYS passed with a near unanimous vote of republicans, along with a small minority of Democrats. That doesn't mean it's a bi-partisan issue.

If you haven't followed the story then I can't help you. Seriously, you must use common sense once in a while. Elizabeth Warren did what many unethical people do to get an unfair advantage in life. She lied about her heritage to get preferential treatment over honest people. Simple as that. If you're so naive as to dismiss a MAJOR news story covered by ALL media outlets then you're reasoning is truely defective and nobody can help you. My advice to you is that you find someone to support whose entire identity isn't built on lies.

Just look at Canada. The Canadian federal government has MUCH stricter regulations on its banks and despite the financial crisis, Canadian banks continued to thrive. Telling big shot executives they can't do wtv they want is EXTREMELY important. These people live in their big estates or on the top of skyscrapers and only hang out among themselves. You really think they won't fuck us over? They will, they have and unless we regulate their activities, they will do it again and again and again.

***** It wasn't that government programs were put in place that allowed lower income people to purchase homes that was the problem. The problems arose from deceitful lenders and realtors who pushed people into buying homes that they couldn't afford. The lenders approved them for mortgages that had deceivingly low interest payments to begin with and had hidden "balloon" payments buried in the mortgage document. The realtors, working in conjunction with the lenders, convinced the buyers that they could afford the more expensive homes...which they couldn't. If the lower income people had purchased homes that they could AFFORD and hadn't been screwed over from every which way, the housing crash wouldn't have occurred.

Stock Market Guru Pt. 1 -- Yes, that's exactly correct. I'm a real estate agent in Canada (10 years), and before that I was a mortgage broker. In Canada we had some sub-prime mortgage products but for the most part they were heavily regulated. In the States that wasn't the case. There were many documented cases in America where predatory agents and lenders would knowingly defraud people, making them believe they could qualify for mortgages that they should not have been approved for. Oftentimes they were immigrants who weren't very comfortable with English and couldn't understand the paperwork. Have you ever seen and agreement of purchase and sale for a home? They're wordy and full of legalese that, if not familiar with them, can be very difficult to understand. What the predatory lenders did is set the interest rate artificially low, making the initial first few months of payments affordable, but buried in the document was a "balloon rate." After a few months the interest rate would "balloon" up to the actual rate, which would mean that the home buyer now couldn't afford his/her mortgage payments. Thus, they would go into default. These mortgages were insured by the government so it was a WIN WIN for everyone except the person who bought the home.

    • @suvariboy
      @suvariboy 9 лет назад +1

Stock Market Guru Pt. 2 -- The predatory lending/selling and the balloon rates weren't the worst of it. Wall Street came up with a new "product" that took all of these toxic mortgages, bundled them into a large investment unit, forced the rating agencies to give them a AAA rating (despite that fact that many were anything but), and sold them to investors for AAA prices. Since they were rated AAA by reputable agencies the unsuspecting investors were blissfully unaware that they'd purchased junk. THEN, when the home owners were close to defaulting on their mortgages and approached their banks and lending institutions to renegotiate the terms of the mortgage, the mortgages were MIA. Lost in some giant investment portfolio. AND, since they were insured by the government, there was no impetus for the lender to refinance because if the home owner defaulted, THEY GOT PAID from the insurance. The predatory real estate agents got paid. The predatory lender got paid (for negotiating the mortgage and then paid in full when the buyer defaulted). The Wall Street investment bankers got paid. The rating agencies got paid. Everyone was laughing all the way to the bank except for the home owner who'd been duped into believing he bought a house that he could afford.

No single nation should have that much power and control over world economy. At least for the euros risk is spread among 28 different countries. But am sure the CIA won't have that

sk00lb0y Falling how? Just because a few countries are experiencing hitches doesn't mean the whole continent is failing. Look at what happened in 2008. That would not have happened if risk was spread. But am sure the CIA will be more than happy to eliminate any leader who can think of that idea. And do you know why? Without the dollar the US cannot place sanctions on anyone they do business with directly. Without the dollar the US cannot freeze money and assets of certain individuals as they easily can now. And finally without demand for the US dollar, with your current public debt and spending, you will experience inflation like never seen before. That's why you can't let it happen. It's not an issue of markets deciding. Purely political

Perhaps we stop worrying so much at where folks place on the political spectrum (a spectrum that appears to be changing), and consider what they are saying and actually doing.

So DO something other than bitch, because the government won't listen to your cries, they won't help you. This is like France before their Revolution (not really). ack! The last Clinton nightmare was partially responsible for the economic meltdown we are in now. Kind of a Reagan/Clinton/Duh_bya stew.
Doesn't matter anyway. The puppet masters would never allow Elizabeth to be President. One look at who was the biggest contributers to McCain/Romney/Obama campaigns will tell you who they are and they will never contribute to someone like Warren.

Your Dada Hello Your Dada, So if you can put aside your hatred for a moment and address your own point. Just because Fox News harps on the national debt does that mean you refuse to except it as a very serious situation? Bush did a lot to add to the debt. But so did Obama and many presidents before both of them. So where does that leave us when both sides share blame? People in this country are so blinded by partisanship they are willing to drive right into collapse before they are willing to make hard decisions.

+kausik Elizabeth Warren’s Lies Catching Up With Her
Elizabeth Warren, Democrat candidate for Senate in Massachusetts, can’t shake free of unflattering revelations from her past. First to be exposed was her unverified claim to be a Cherokee, which upset actual Cherokees and raised ethical questions. Then came accusations from fellow academics that Warren had fudged data for a book, followed by the discovery that the former mortgage fraud czarina had herself made a tidy profit flipping foreclosed homes. Now comes the shocking news that, not only did Warren represent a string of big businesses in cases against workers, she seems to have been practicing law for over a decade without a license.
      _
      Family Lore vs. Hard Evidence
The first setback to Warren’s maiden election campaign came in April, when it was revealed that she’d publicly listed herself for years as a “Person of Color”, specifically, a Cherokee. (See earlier post for details.) Despite Warren’s insistence that the Cherokee controversy has been “put to rest” it keeps dogging her, partly because her opponent, Scott Brown, has made it a question of her character, partly because of Warren’s own bizarre compulsion to keep raising the subject.
Brown hit Warren on her false Cherokee claim in the first question of their first debate. Warren insisted Harvard’s decision to hire her had nothing to do with her claim to minority status, yet refused to comply with Brown’s request for her to release her Harvard paperwork. Brown and the debate moderator then moved on to other issues, but a few minutes later Warren felt the need to retell the thoroughly-debunked fable of her family’s claims to Cherokee and Delaware ancestry.
Not content to leave it be, Warren released a TV ad insisting yet again that the family lore she heard as child makes it OK for her to call herself a Native American. This subject is not a winner for Warren, as: 1) exhaustive research by the Cherokee genealogist, Twila Barnes, has proven conclusively that Warren has zero native american ancestry; 2) even had Warren’s claim to 1/32 Cherokee blood been true, under federal law, that was not sufficient for her to claim minority status as a native american.
      _
      Underdog Champion or Hired Gun?
Warren’s claim to fame, which made her the darling of proglodytes, is as a champion of the underdog against avaricious corporations. In the debate, Brown cast doubt on this image when he questioned Warren’s decision to represent Travelers Insurance in its 2009 attempt to avoid paying compensation to thousands of workers with asbestos poisoning. Warren insisted that by representing Travelers (“it was an insurance company versus another insurance company” she later explained), she actually helped the poisoned workers by getting Travelers to set up a trust fund, which was better than nothing. The settlement was later negated by the Supreme Court, leaving the victims with nothing.
Less clear is how Warren was aiding the downtrodden when she represented LTV Steel in 1995, when they attempted to renege on health & pension benefits to thousands of retired coal miners.
Warren has also served, in an advisory or litigating capacity, the following clients in their attempts to use Chapter 11 legalities to avoid liabilities for asbestos poisoning:
      Kaiser Aluminum
      Dow Chemical
      Johns Manville
      National Gypsum
      Fuller Austin
      Fairchild Aviation
      Piper Aircraft
      Babcock & Wilcox Company
      Pittsburgh Coming Corporation
      Owens Coming Corporation
      Armstrong World Industries, Inc.
      W.R. Grace & Company
      G-1 Holdings, Inc.
      United States Gypsum Corporation
      Federal-Mogul Global, Inc.
      North American Refractories Company
      _
      Unlicensed Practice of the Law
All this scrutiny into Warren’s legal work (conducted primarily by the blog Legal Insurrection) has uncovered a potentially devastating blow to Warren’s Senate aspirations. It now seems certain that Warren has been practicing law for years in Massachusetts without a license. That’s a felony.
Warren admits she’s never passed the Mass. bar, but insists it doesn’t matter as: 1) She’s never really practiced law in Mass, just “dabbled” a bit; 2) She maintains no law office in the state; 3) She’s never appeared in a Mass. court regarding Mass. law; 4) She’s a member of the TX and NJ bars. All four statements are lies.
Warren has engaged in continuous practice
The long list of clients above, most from 2002 and discovered by chance, belie Warren’s claim of “dabbling.” Warren refuses to release a comprehensive list of clients, but her annual tax returns list six-figure earnings from legal work.
Warren has maintained a permanent law office
Warren insists she has no law office in Massachusetts. Yet in amicus briefs to the Supreme Court, and in numerous other cases over the past decade where she was listed “of counsel”, Warren gave her Harvard address as the location of her law practice. On her Texas bar file, she also lists Cambridge, MA, as the location of her practice.
