Can you please make more content with your laser and farmhouse sign builds?? I just got my laser & loving your channel since I found it. I’m gonna attempt this shiplap look but I’m going to use 1/2” plywood, sand & paint and have the laser cut grooves in it to Mimic the shiplap. Hope it looks as nice as yours. Keep the content coming!
@@BeardedBuildsCo To follow up on this comment (since I didn’t realize I already commented on this video 7 months ago when I bought my Glowforge lol)- I actually just upgraded from the glowforge (aka slowforge) 🎉 and got a thunder 51/130W. I love that ply from Lowes that you are using.. the price on the full sheets of it where I live .. it’s just unbeatable. However, I cannot find the perfect settings for this revolution plywood and have done many test cuts/engraves. I’m Gonna run a material test file From lightburn and see if that will help guide me to that sweet “setting” spot of cuts without any charring and that will fully get cut out on the 1st pass. Without having to run a 2nd pass and charring the edges even more. Must be the glue in that ply in certain spots or something. Keep up these videos… So many good ones packed with info that I’ve missed. And since coming from the GF, the thunder/lightburn is just a whole new ballgame and learning curve for me!
Hey there! was wondering if you share where you got the weights that you are using to hold down the wood in the cutter. I am having a heck of time with that. Thanks! Also can you also tell me where you get your wood at and what type. I have been using 1/8 plywood from lowes. THanks again.
Hi! The weights are actually rare earth magnets that I bought on Amazon. amzn.to/2SpAaI5 These are the ones that I got and I will double and triple them up to get more pulling force. The ply in the video is poplar ply that I got from Lowes. www.lowes.com/pd/RevolutionPly-5mm-Poplar-Plywood-Application-as-4-x-8/50121135
Thanks for your help. I have been running my 50 W laser at 85% and .19 for the speed/inch. it seems to work ok but there are some areas that do not go all the way through the wood. May I ask what are you running? I am thinking that you may have a higher watt laser. THanks
Yes I have a 60watt machine. One thing that I struggled with for a minute was not having my nozzle close enough to the work pieces. I learned that I was actually trying to cut the pieces with out the focal point in the most efficient depth in the wood. Do some test with little circles some closer and some after away to find the sweet spot!
How do you get virtually no smoke when cutting? When cutting and engraving wood with my 60w omtech the smoke fills the machine as well as the room I'm engraving in
This laser is by far what I prefer. The clean up with the laser is very minimal and it’s quick and easy. I also like the look of leaving the nice golden brown edge and having a painted surface on top.
@@JoeyGaglioti these were done with 1 by mdf trim board. They have rounded edges so it gives good relief lines. The other technique that I have stated doing is running defocused score lines on ply with the laser.

Great looking design man.. seriously. And nice shiplap trick using mdf trim board. I was wondering.. was it hard to spray paint the edges? The video is sped up pretty quick. I didn't see you spraying at an angle to cover the edges. Seemsike you went from straight top from side to side. How well did it cover the edges? How many coats did you do and what brand and model of spray paint did you use? Thanks in advance!

Great Job Brother. I appreciate you and many others who share their knowledge.
Thank you for putting this out there! Super helpful to learn this!
You’re welcome!
Just a tip. Gel wax and a foam application pad is a game changer. Especially for large projects
So glad I found your channel! My 55w is on the way.
Congrats!
Awesome video! I didn't know I could substitute mustard for wood glue in a pinch. Great tip!

To get that affect of grooves with the laser I recommend watching my video about defocusing.

What kind of wood are you using for the shiplap part of the sign?

Bearded Builds Co thank you so much! I’ve been debating one or the other to add to my workshop. I appreciate your response. :)
Of course! Have you looked into OMTech lasers?
Is the white back ground material for the faux shiplap mdf? Or what is it
it's actually this stuff from lowes...
www.lowes.com/pd/Radius-Edge-MDF-Actual-0-656-in-x-3-5-in-x-8-ft/1000703598
What is the total weight of the sign (ready)??
Typically, about how much are you selling these signs for?
Did you put a round over on the white backer boards to get the shiplap look?
Just ran it across the table saw
So you got regular 1x4 and ripped a cut in the end on 1 board to get that effect? That's the only part I didn't see you do

Hi what program do you use to make your designs an dhow do you import them to the laser software
I use Adobe illustrator. These files import right into lightburn.
Can you provide me with the link to the laser cutter you’re using please?
