The actual reason that Driving Licence worked a bit and also relatable in Malayalam is because of the cutouts, fan associations culture which we see also in TN, in Kerala (not only for big Ms), and other South states.The cutouts, I don't think, that they put much even for a SRK movie.

@@nikhilbharatan There were huge cut outs of Srk made by fans during Pathaan ( for every release though). People were literally puting milk and garlands on the posters and cut outs specially in n chennai and Banglore.

I remember before COVID-19, people used to flock into theatres by name of Akshay, "yaar Akshay ki movie hai achi hi hogi" but now I feel he needs a break or a deep introspection. I would be very happy to see him in Hera Pheri3 but after that he needs a revive.
That 2014-2020 era was another world altogether. The man was the consistent king! Definitely needs a breather so that people actually can look forward to his film

Srk was never short of stardom, it was a combination of experimental movies and back to back bad social media image due to some statements given by him, I don't want to include much politics in it but a huge role of bad performance of srk movies were because of non mass movie, BJP and media presenting his statement in a manipulated way and numerous clashes with big movies like kaabil, bajirao mastani, anyway srk is back and m happy

Exactly I wanted to write this comment for a long time. A family drama movie like " jug jug jiyo " was made on a budget of 100 Cr. A movie like " Vikram vedha " which could have been easily made under 100 Cr was made on a budget of 180 because Hrithik wanted to shoot in UAE instead of India. The actors should also start taking a pay cut because they are creating a lot of pressure on the budget.
Akshay makes them into 200 cr movie. his fees alone takes 75% of the budget. Never seen a actor hogging this much money from his movies

During the early to mid-2000's,
Govinda's films started failing at the box office make him doubt about his capability as a bankable star.
I believe like how Govinda joined Congress Party. Akshay Kumar might buy his own IPL team or doing something in the field of sports.
Because his stardom is fading slowly and steadily.
This is the movie I will say perfect for OTT. In today's time Good isn't Good enough. Great is the new Good enough, for movies releasing in theatres.

There were discussions few years back that Emraan Hashmi acts only in massy films. Irrespective of class or mass he is an underrated actor and when given the right script he excels big time.

Azhar was a pretentious crap movie. This movie gave the same pretentious vibe acting of that movie. The underrated actor you are talking about was in 2009 this is 2023 . He has to do a lot better a lot. Go and watch shahid in Frazi and you will know where the lv is. It's the same sort of character Imran use to pull of in the 2000s. The difference is just immense

I always face a question why bollywood won't work on original stories where other regional industries like Telugu Tamil Kannada Malayalam and other industries do.
That's something which Bollywood needs to think about,but somehow the OTT platform has some good content though,probably there is dearth of script writers in the film industry...
Because of the zero hype. Original Bollywood movies find it hard to be a hit and usually is released in ott platforms. This the case in all industries . Big and grand movies pull audiences because in the end people want entertainment. Movies like salaam venky and the action hero can't make much because of the less star power and less mass nature.

People usually forget the fact that even the buzz creating Hera Pheri is a remake of the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking...one of the cult classic of that industry... So people badmouthing remakes should definitely do a reality check .. No remakes are always bad🙌 ... Selfie is the same.. 💞
in the year 2000 hindi audience didn't know anything about ramji rao speaking so hera pheri was a huge hit ,if today ramji rao is on you tube in hindi dub & then if hera pheri would have released then hera pheri would have been a disaster just like jersey .
And that Malayali film was a remake of a Hollywood TV movie See The Man Run (1971).
It's not about absolutely no remakes at all. It's about quality. For one good remake, there's a hundred mediocre to just bad remade movies out there. When so many commercial movies are just remakes of succesful South movies, some even frame to frame copy, the lack of originality is starting to show, and the audience isn't impressed. Not to mention with how much OTT platforms have grown, especially in COVID, it would take a huge spectacle (like Pathaan) or really great word of mouth to get people intrested enough to come and watch in theatres.
Bhai even Hollywood classics like Scarface and dollars trilogy are also remakes and adaptations .
I don't know why people cry about remakes , particularly if that movie is not available in Hindi

I think if Akshay would've played Emraan's character the film would've worked differently, because when a star is playing himself in a movie there is no chance of audience rooting for him due to his larger than life persona.
Whereas people can relate more with a common man character because they see themselves in him.
Maybe the audience are seeing it as an Emraan hashmi's film rather than an Akshay Kumar's film, maybe that's why audience are not showing interest.
It's true the reason for the flop strings is that Akshay kumar films are getting saturated in the loads of movie. He has to realize that he is one of the superstars who has to respect his own experience of 3 decades.
As of now, only 2 of his movies are set for a 2023 release

The biggest reason for Pathann being a 1000 crore collection movie is that people were missing SRK. Akshay kumar does need to take a break to focus on Production. Even if it's for a year.

this happens with me when i am watching a tv series with 7-8 seasons . aroung about 4th i get bored and dont watch it for 6 moths and then rewatch it later.
Akshay Kumar not making eye contact, looking into the void in Solo shots can be attributed to his not-so- reliable memory. He confessed numerous times in many interviews that AD's will be holding cardboard sheets behind the camera with his dialogs written on them, so that he can see them and repeat the same.
For god's sake, Bollywood must stop this remakes and digging its own grave. I don't want to see bollywood being mocked and fall anymore.
Make Bholaaa a disaster and you will see change. Akshay and Ajay are flag bearer of Remakes.

@@harshraj6116 Don't think Bholaa remake film will be disaster since the second teaser dropped and it's almost look like an adaptation film and everybody saw it and they liked it including myself and the film looks like a potential Blockbuster and I think people are will be okay with the remakes if they don't ruin it and degrade the original films but if they do...then the theaters will be empty even if it's good remakes and the directors will have no choices but to do the original movies

I feel sorry for AK. He has never had the mantra of an Aamir or the Superstardom of SRK/Bhai. What he has always possessed was hardwork and a genuineness to be a fanboy like us. But in 2020s when the audience has moved very far past expectations on content - he himself needs a rethink. All his movies do not challenge his acting skills based on the sheer volume of characters he has played he has perhaps exhausted his considerable skills to the point it appears effortless. The audience themselves do not know what they want from AK. Despite his stardom I think he needs to switch to the multistarrer-supporting roles for a short bit or consider an OTT Series where he can stretch himself beyond his persona. Distance from the screen will not help him as once again he is nor SRK.

You should make a video on Telugu Star Pawan Kalyan on how he should really use the time to complete his big budget epic HHVM and not only rely on remakes now.He has in line now Theri remake, Vinodhaya Sitham remake.Earlier his original movies worked quite well and also even remakes in the mid 2000s but fans are now really angry on him for Theri remake in line.
When you talked about Prithviraj, his Malayalam venture Ayyappanum Koshiyum was also remade with PK and Rana Daggubati titled Bheemla Nayak.PK's movies are getting hit in the BO post COVID but fans are really angry.

I don’t understand why people didn’t like Raksha Bandhan & Ram Setu . Especially Raksha Bandhan, it spoke about something a common human being struggle with the dowry system in India, it did speak with great lengths. Selfiee was relatable in a fan’s perspective.
Because nobody wants to watch an emotional movie on the ocassion of Rakshabandhan , the day in which the film got released. Also LSC took about 60% of theaters + the negative buzz of LSC took the limelight of Rakshabandhan, just like what Heropanti 2 did with Runway 34

Imraan Hashmi is not a common man in this move, he's a police officer. That comes with many perks which a common man can't even dream of.
To be very honest I don't think akshay kumar has that physical personality like salman, sanjay dutt and now a days he looks so slim and week like an average indian.... So audience will not go to theatre and spend 500rs on ticket to see an average looking actor who looks exactly like audience or an average indian...Public like someone who has physical built like sanjay dutt as adheera in kgf.... Look at the audience reaction on that scene when sanjay dutt enter on screen with that smoking cigaar... Now that's what audience want.....

Coming to the film Akshay and imran are on the screen together for the 1st time.. if used properly they could have done magic like John and Srk.. but the thing with Akshay now is that his movies are more watched on OTT then theatres because he is doing project after project he is always on tv .. the cinema going audience is watching him on tv every day so it's hard for a movie goes to put money and watch Akshay doing the same thing on screen again and again isn't watchable now..
He should sit and take a break or just for a few months not say yes to just for doing a project he might come back with something special like pathan
Emraan Hashmi is so underrated. Sadly, he went overboard with kissing scenes in most of the movies towards the beginning of his career that people hardly notice his acting skills

He doesn't give two shits about the quality of his movies. So, nothing will change. We should instead support and encourage the next star in line who cares about the quality of films. Akshay is done. He doesn't seem to have any inclination towards change. He should just retire.
Post lockdown people have this mentality of 'OTT par aayegi tab dekh lenge' for these commercial movies. Creators need to think of something to create hype for such films.

@@nikhilbharatan well priyadarshan doesn't know much, other than story writing, directing, location choosing, he can't do that much, for dialogue he needs a better writer, Hungama 2 would have been with that cast itself (which ppl called wrong casting), a good writing, amazing dialogues will make a perfect balance, and we need a perfect writer on commercial level (cause we don't man), though u will find good writer in abubdant on OTT or say for class movies.😅🙂

Akshay kumar really needs to take a step back and think about the projects he is choosing at this point ,he doesn't need to become a Amir and release movies in gaps of 3 and 4 years but at the same times needs to stop pushing so many projects after another and give the quality to say 2 scripts in a year...I think hera pheri 3 is the one I have the last hope from I just hope then don't ruin the nostalgia of it because it's a very iconic movie !!!

well I read the news that neither akshay has signed many films in 2022 , just 1-2 only and he has put his other releases on hold. How true is it , I don't know but if it is true then it can be he is taking his time and increasing his gap between releases. Only time will tell , the next Akshay film whose date has been announced is BMCM slated to come out in December, which I guess may get delayed because tiger's ganpath will also release in october , so seeing tiger in such a short time wont help with the marketing. It is all ifs and buts as of now.

Watched this movie today. I liked it. The whole family enjoyed watching this movie. After a long time, there was a family entertaining movie. And it didn't do well commercially.

But Akshay if you see the Selfiee trailer just garnered 8M views online. Those are terribly low numbers for a movie trailer. So the saturation of his appearances have definitely impacted hype for his films. I hope he does bounce back but takes more careful creative decisions

In general many of the actors choosing the stories and directors on the basis of their comfort zone and this should be changed. How actors like Mahesh Babu, Vijay, Ajith Akshay repeating the directors shows they don't want to go out of their comfort zone, they should try different story tellers. Or else all the films look like continuity of previous films or daily soaps.
Akshay Kumar's seeming downfall has been one of the most frustrating things to watch over the past few years. But I think at this point it is deserved because he no longer puts his heart into acting. All of his movies are just Akshay Kumar being Akshay Kumar with a splash of some sincere character traits. Eventually, and especially when they're mediocre or underwhelming projects, people get exhausted.
Here a good movie is unable to grab hype but a cringe movie teaser Martin gets high level hype 🙂

I think its pretty obvious nowadays that audiences have stopped showing up for movies that don't warrant getting out of the couch. Social commentary genre died with covid because of the advent of OTT platforms. "Selfiee" might have worked pre-covid.
Its definitely that one BIG film in the month vs every other week. Good films: people can wait for. Great spectacles: they'll definitely tune in

Honestly, it's a little hard to keep up with what movie Akshay does and it just comes and goes without any significant post release hype. He used to be one of my favourite actors growing up. Why he insists on mediocre at best scripts and churning out movies for the sake of money is beyond my understanding. At one point even the producers will have to stop because why would someone fund projects which barely manage to get appreciation, hype and viewers.

I watch a lot of movies but I just don't go for an Akshay movie. What I feel is this guy doesn't care for himself to even try to make a good film so why should I?
I think Akshay Kumar is becoming regular unlike Salman, Shahrukh,Aamir and Ajay. Because he is doing movies so fast it's like one movie releases and at the same time he is on Kapil Sharma show promoting his next. Which kills the anticipation of fans to see their favourite actor on big screen

Akshay Kumar has reached saturation point delivering similar type of movies with almost no effort behind it. People are just not excited about his movies anymore. He is a decent actor and now he has reached the point in his career where he needs to work hard for his character.

I did not like Driving License that much. It was just an okay movie. So, did not have much hopes on Selfie. Ayyappanum Koshiyum also had the same plot. It was much better. Both were written by the same guy.

I haven't seen Driving Licence but Selfiee has the relevance with Akshay Kumar like No DL = No Indian Identity cards, I love Raj Mehta's direction, he deals comedy pretty well but I don't think Driving Licence had anything to remake into a Selfiee nevertheless It was a good family entertainer.
