Fritz Kreisler - Violin Concerto in C major "In the Style of Vivaldi" 1. - Allegro energico ma non troppo: 0:00 2. - Andante doloroso: 4:22 3. - Allegro molto: 8:33
Question: Is this neo-classicism? I want to understand what determines if a piece is neo-classical. For example, I am aware of Prokofiev's Classical Symphony and how that is neo-classical. I'm assuming since Kreisler is taking inspiration from a baroque composer, it would be? Anyone want to help me out? haha
I'd say Kreisler is pastiche, rather than neo-classical. Kreisler wrote these pieces for fun, I don't think they were intended as a reaction against late Romanticism, as in the case of Stravinski, Hindemith or Falla.
I think one of the key differences between this and Neo-Classicism is harmony. Prokofiev and Stravinsky used Classical form and language but re-contextualized it with dissonance which was distinctly twentieth century. Like Dion said, this isn't really an artistic response to Classicism as much as it is a copy. Take Stravinsky's Italian Suite for example - it follows classical form and melodic convention while also being injected with twentieth century voice leading, chord clusters and texture.

Yes !! I Listen to most of Kriesler and glad to have found this piece !! Thanks !!
Regal, vivacious, evocative.
some some reason this give more of a bach feel to me than vivaldi
I'm mostly a piano guy and violin solo music tends to make me fall asleep. This didn't and for that, I'm in love with this music.
Que espetáculo!
Although it’s a great piece and very beautiful-and pretty dense and complex in places-In no damn way does this sound like Vivaldi. Lmao
UMG's tagging algorithm thinks it sounds like the main theme from Jurassic Park, not sure who to believe.

@@lucianomaizel4002 exactly what I had in mind
If anything, it would be Neobaroque.
Vivaldi??? !! No way. It doesn’t even have the lucidity or spirit of Vivaldi.
