What they have...
Shrimp strong
Yep
Yeah
Against the one who's saving them. Poor Jacob
What’s interesting is that, whenever he takes the parasite out and shows it to the shrimp, they quickly calm down.
If someone showed me a parasite they pulled out from my chest I’d do the fucking opposite of calm down-

Watching parasite removal is so satisfying. Thanks for caring for the shrimp.
I live next door in Washington state. Thanks for raising awareness regarding these isopod parasites living on our shrimpy friends. I had no clue.
This guy interacts with shrimp better than I interact with humans
This is so satisfying and such a good thing to see someone do.

Why would someone dislike this? This is a really selfless act where he gets hurt to save their lives.
well it really doesnt help, may sound cold but new parasites will come back in a short period of time. plus there is no way to verify the shrimp survived the ordeal. while its not dislike worthy, i dont find it that inspiring either. -Nature is cold, so If you aim to protect it you must think coldly.
@@Exquailibur well he still tried his best so that can be inspiring
@@jeongchonpark8690 That's a flawed view, some people find rather despicable things to be inspiring, it would also be preferable if the actions taken had measurable effect. this is simply for views, hopefully to support his other endeavors, whatever they may be.
Also its weird seeing so many people having sympathy for shrimp despite the fact most of them would crush a spider without a second thought.
@@Exquailibur clearly thats your view. I beg to differ and find it satisfying and Inspiring. I don't care what anyone says. Bottom line is he's doing something kind instead of picking people apart on a RUclips channel that people actually like. 🤨
@@SR77736 It is true that my comment is somewhat negative by nature, but the purpose is to bring to light the nature of the situation. Being positive can be great, but realism is important to fix the issues at hand. Its a grim issue that needs largescale fixes that fundamentally limit the parasite populations, although eradication is unlikely. The information is easily acquired by tribute of his channel.
gist of it is that shrimp are going extinct due to out of control parasite (species Orthione griffenis i believe)...and its our fault, especially mine since I also live where these occur naturally.

Wow thank you so much for sharing these cool and slimy videos ! Most importantly thank you for saving these awesome marine creatures and I would like to help shrimp have their parasites taken out since I too believe that we have our own emotional and mental parasites such as "stinking thinking". Do you have to undergo some sort of training or certification to help remove these parasites? I would love to donate to Oregon State so they can continue to conduct research on these parasites and find good use for them.

Serious question, does it make a difference to operate in shrimp like this? Or does it just bring relief? Is there a ecological reason these parasites are so common in the shrimp? (Besides the parasite having a host?)
Maybe these Shrimps are defenseless against these parasites so Evolution specialised them for shrimps
Since the parasite is an invasive species, the shrimp are 100% defenseless. It’s to bring peace for the shrimpies
was this a cat in the hat reference?
The parasites are an invasive species. So in other words, not native to that area. So the shrimp have no defense to them. They literally suck their blood & make them weak & vulnerable.
@@PainlessJen dang that’s sad.

Questions: 1) Aren’t you afraid that one of the parasites might latch onto you? I don’t know much about them, but it makes my heart race with stress when you touch them with your bare hands 😱
2) Would it be easier to get these bad guys with tweezers? Like those really long slim ones or some sort of specialized kind. I’m new to your channel and this whole shebang, so I understand if there some sort of reason you can’t, but I am curious.
And hes bleeding lol 😟
Omg my mind was also racing pulling them like that with no protection at all 😭💜 love what you are doing but can u at least use tweezers for your own good 🥺
These parasites are probably harmless to humans. They're not designed for human beings, they're designed for creatures like these shrimp
They are not going to latch onto a human. God knows we have enough of our own parasites. I imagine they need to be kept moist to breath like most isopods so we don’t make for a great host.
@@deliawoo462 tweezers may injure the shrimp and the parasite isn’t harmful to us.

Why does so many shrimps have parasites? Is it an environmental thing, like pollution that affects the habitat or making the shrimp less resistant?
I’m genuinely curious! 🤔 🤔

No. The parasite is an invasive species and so the shrimp are defenseless
