    Shane should have been selected over Stephen. Stephen can only do one event and Shane is solid on all six events. The team would have had many more options on all the events if they would have taken Shane.

    • @Zuranthium
      @Zuranthium 12 дней назад +4

      "Options" don't matter. Scores do. Shane's best pommel routine is 1.7 points lower than Stephen's. Shane has no way to make up for that. He doesn't have any event where he adds a big score to the team in comparison. Being an AA'er with merely "good" scores on every event isn't beneficial. You need high-scoring events to contribute to the team and have a chance of beating Japan/China.

    Honestly, E scores lately are just ridiculous. There’s no parity between excellently performed routines and ones that are average. They will take the same deductions for practically all gymnasts on the same moves when one person clearly performs it correctly to the point it is as good as humanly possible. Then it just becomes a D score competition. We are all tired of it. I would love to see a brevet judge do a walk thru of two routines and the deductions taken and why against two routines that have clear execution differences and have to defend how they are barely separated by a few tenths.

    This is a VERY risky men's team to send. I love Nedorostek, but he can only do one event. It gives you no safety net if one of the four other guys tweaks an ankle, a knee, a finger, anything. Brody looks great but coming off a horrendous injury. Paul Juda has been injured most of his career. Id have personally put Khoi in. He gives you a super high vault score consistently. He is the World pommel horse silver medalist. He provides more safety cushion as an all-arounder and potentially contributes many places versus one event Steven. Im gutted for Shane too. He is reliable on all 6 events. This team is boom or bust. Healthy, they can medal. Even one injury mid-event, they are sunk.

  • @absurdhominid4669

    Well the deductions for high difficulty vaults were neutralized by the massive over scoring on SR for Asher (his highest score at world's was 14.0, same as Yul's there). It's a very risky team, but they earned their spots and I'm happy for them.
    Ukraine, UK, and Italy will have significantly better chances on the podium if Asher's VT or Stephen's PB misses. That's a lot of pressure. I don't think there was a "right choice" considering the inconsistencies across 4 days, so "LET'S GO!"

    The meltdowns on IG for Khoi and Shane...I tried to soothe the burns. But at least the commenters weren't nasty. Stephen was smart. I mentioned him, not by name, but his strategic play of downgrading his skills on horse because he knew he only needed to hit clean. I'm so thrilled. Khoi rebounded from Day 1 but I'm cool with him being a first alt. I also think that Fred downgraded his floor to Day 2, using a similar strategy as Stephen. He knew he was in first place and the greater stress was on others. Brody maybe the face, but Fred earned his auto placement as first finisher and the math was mathing for him. I think it burned a bit to the system that Fred is in first, but oh well. Stop etching names on medals until the competition is finished. I cannot believe people think Fred is cocky. The dude is simply fire. He's confident in his skills.
    There is no doubt in my mind that if Skye had hit clean with her routines from nats, she would be on the team. I know her coaches were thinking the seniors: Suni, Jade, Jordan, and Leanne were coming with strategic upgrades, and fight harder to make room for Shi. You have to know when to hold them and fold them.
    _the '84 Mens team was uber hot...had my little 14 YO self sated_ It was the first time I had really paid attention to the men's team and I was committed ever since.
    If the system needs to put Hezly on make her a traveling alt then bring another youth as her companion. If they send her alone even if they place her on the team she will be isolated. You cannot make those grown women babysit her. We don't need another " they're bullying her " campaign if she flops or soars.

      @JaedroCruz 12 дней назад +6

      100% disagree. The Trials are a PERFECT test environment to mentally and physically prepare these young men for the immensity of the Olympics. Khoi is so insanely talented, but he didn’t hit when it mattered the most. You can’t go by the past (“Oh but he has world medals!”) or “What Ifs” in the future. It’s the present that matters the most.
      Paul Juda on the other hand has consistently hit, and even tho he doesn’t have the highest difficulty, his lines are gorgeous and he maintained composure under all that stress and pressure resulting in high execution scores, He’s fit and healthy. I feel much more at ease with him being on the team versus Khoi being questionable.
      For me I would have chosen Shane Wiskus over a specialist, but because they had the rules clearly written in advance I can understand why they chose Nodoroscik over Shane. I don’t agree with it, but I can at least respect they honored the formula put in place.
      Had they chosen Wiskus instead, Nedoroscik would’ve had grounds to sue them for not following the rules.

    Shane should have been on the Team! He had the highest All-Around score Day 2 (higher than Brody had either day at Trials AND higher than Frederick on Day 2), and took 1st on Floor and 2nd on High Bar! It's the best he has ever been and he clearly has the momentum and is peaking at the right time. Absolutely gutted for him that he did not make the team.
    There was a claim that they were looking at Nationals at 40% and Trials at 60% of the final score, but it sounds like it was just purely the scores over the 4 days. Unfortunately, the computer does not take into account consistency, heart, momentum, and who is peaking.

The fact that Khoi can give you a 15+ on pommels is nice but the fact that he can equally give you a 12 or 11 is terrifying. Shane, while he had a great meet is not as valuable in enough spaces. Where Shane helps the team, he helps by a minimal margin. Where Paul helps the team, he helps by a wider margin.

    Spencer is incorrect to say Khoi Young would be on the team over Stephen Nedoroscik if he hit. Khoi Young would be there over Paul Juda. Stephen was always making it, unless other key contenders did their absolute best across all events. That didn't happen. The coach saying Asher's vault scores .8 higher internationally is also bullshit, both because it's wrong and b/c the international standard is becoming stricter.

    Why do men get to land with their legs shoulder width apart n s squat m, yet women get penalised???? And no, it's due to their having 'bits' in the way preventing them putting their legs together, because they they manage that during their routines.

    I think she means fishbowl and not an aquarium. That's very American like a fish in a fishbowl.
