kalle kanin that’s just because some tourists are reckless and stupid... Being Norwegian myself and having lots of experience in the mountains, I know for sure that Kjerag is not the most dangerous mountain in Norway. Not even close!

kalle kanin pfft Kjerag is easy the only reason it takes more life is because more people climb it. And mainly stupid tourists that try to take stupid pictures. I have been on far more dangerous hikes in Norway than Kjerag.

I hitch hiked around Scandinavia back in 1973 and took the ferry around the North Cape and back down through Finland and Sweden. I have travelled all over the world and I must say that Norway is right up there for being one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Yes it was expensive even back then. But what I now know that I didn't know as a twenty one year old in 1973 is the awesome geological history of this region which will make your journey even more interesting and with greater appreciation should you take the time to explore the geology.

It´s not a dangerous place by definition but it can be dangerous as any other mountain if you are unlucky with weather or unprepared with gear. We got a life lesson at Kjerag while hiking in end of October and staying over the night in a tent near the destination on the top. During the night our both tents where smashed flat by very strong wind so we were sleeping under the flat fabric. We discovered our wet clothes laying around in a tent froze to ice, including gloves and shoes. Luckily we had a proper waterproof and warm winter jackets so we were all good. Night in such conditions was a very unpleasant experience. On the other hand we wouldnt dare to go back to the car in complete darkness at slippery/icy surface forcing stormy winds and rain. However, I much appreciate this experience as it taught us a lot of how to be better prepared for unexpected and invest in proper, high-quality equipment. Enjoy the mountains! :)

I left for Norway the day you posted this and scaled Kjerag on the 21st of July. It was so foggy that day that it negated the purpose of mounting the bolder (the only reason to do it is to get the ultimate photo or selfie). Thus I did not go on top of the bolder. It was wet, windy, cold, and according to a couple of Afghani guys who braved it, the bolder was slippery. A nice German couple I was travelling with were not afraid of heights, and not even they dared mount it. Nope, I chose life. Under ideal conditions I would definitely have done it.
That being said, I did sit on the tip of the Troll's Tongue (Trolltunga). I did Trolltunga first (get the longest hike over with), did Preikestolen the next day (which was the easiest btw) and saved my energy to do this hike for last. One last word of advice: when hiking Trolltunga, show up at the P3 parking lot no later than 6:30AM in the morning. My partner and I showed up at the gate at around 6:25AM, and were told we were the last ones in. Had we not made it, we would have been forced to hike an extra two hours through the most gruelling part of the trek.

Attention: flying drones in protected areas (such as Kjerag) is illegal. You can however apply for a permit. I would suggest you do not post additional drone shots from other protected areas until your paperwork is complete (otherwise; your Norway trip could even more expensive). As a follow drone and film enthusiast; always check with the local laws before flying with your drone. This kind of behavior will eventually lead to a nationwide drone ban (or similar to the Canadian laws).
Anyway; always interesting to see my hometown in a random video on RUclips. I also found it interesting that you guys found hiking gear to be expensive. According to my own experience, hiking and training gear is rather reasonably priced in Norway compared to other EU countries (especially considering the wage gap).
Also; as others has mentioned, Kjerag is not the most dangerous mountain in Norway. Far from it.

Great video guys! I'm glad that you got to experience Kjeragbolten but Fredrik should also have taken you to the Kjerag viewpoint which is just a couple of hundred meters from the boulder. This place also offers some stunning views. Being from Stavanger I have been fortunate to go to Kjerag about 10 times and it is always a great treat :-) It is not regarded as a dangerous mountain by the way but getting out on the boulder do give you a rush ;-) Hope you enjoyed Norway!

.... We have just returned from Peru...Please tell Katy that she comes from one of the most beautiful and intriguing places on earth.... but i do see that there are some similarities with Norway and Peru - which is why i am sure Katy loved Norway so much ... we are more familiar with the southern part of this country around Oslo. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of a different side of this country... enough to encourage us to return there soon... maybe as a two centre trip with Iceland. Thanks once again for being our "eyes wide open." Colin & Kim
