Moved away from Birmingham 30 years ago where I was born and lived till I was 30 so I have real perspective. The transformation of my home city is amazing and almost everything is better than it was when I left Handsworth Grammar school in 1979. Better race relations, better public transport, far far lower unemployment, the city looks fantastic now, even places like Perry Barr are far better than they were when I went to the now demolished Poly technical college. Birmingham city centre is for me just stunning, gone are the horrible underpasses, mostly its pedestrianised now, Gas Street Basin looks great, the Jewelry quarter, and Digbeth are now part of the wider city centre I have decided to move back as soon as my circumstances allow, I am so proud of how Birmingham has risen from the ashes of de-industrialisation, I love it

A beautiful, peaceful, serene, excellent market, lot of futuristic buildings are coming up with international games and good accommodation. We have always enjoyed my stay amongst very friendly people.

Vast, green, multicultural, Europe's youngest metropolis populated by people from all over the planet. Home of world class schools, universities, research centres, sporting clubs and hospitals. Birmingham rocks!! THX
It is only the youngest City calculated by the average age of it's citizens, it is the UK's second largest City with over 1.5 million citizens and Birmingham has been around since Anglo Saxon Times.
Hardly recognise the place. St Martins is the only place that gives me a reference, oh and the Rotunda of course. Worked in the Bull ring indoor market when I left school, in the early 70sl, looks a bit different now,

I grew up and was educated in Brum in the 1960s, with its then new Bull Ring Centre and Rotunda. I even cycled over the Camp Hill flyover one Sunday morning. Like many other cities, it is now concrete and glass. Gas Street basin has cleaned up nicely. Mostly modern and tasteful, but I cannot say that I like the outside of the Selfridges building or its visual dominance of St Martin's Church. Hey ho...

Beg to differ, the problem is that the tall buildings in Manchester are all built in a small area and some are actually in the City of Salford, where as Birmingham City Center is so large that the tall buildings in Birmingham City Center re spread out, the best way of seeing the magnificent sky line of Birmingham is from two vantage points, one is when passing Birmingham on the M6 Motorway near Spaghetti Junction and driving up the Aston Expressway ( A38M) into the City and from the Licky Hills on the South East side of the City.
So how do come to that conclusion, Birmingham has loads of high rise buildings plus the tallest Building in the UK is being constructed in Birmingham and our Cities are not Old and Boring with too many old Buildings. Even in the USA Cities have old Buildings so before making Childish comments try visiting a place such as Birmingham your self before running it down
I've spoken to a few US Tour Guides and they rue their country not having greater historic landmarks to point out like European cities. There are buildings in my modest suburb in Birmingham that are probably older than the much feted Liberty Bell in Philly.
