I remember surfing Sabastian inlet in the 70's and Jorge Machuca was there blowing our minds !!!
He was a great surfer , but more important , he was a great guy .

I wish I grew up in those days.. the beaches are crowded everyone wants to snake you or fight or both.. I can only hitch rides on Hawaii .. you must have alot of great memories before the days of the technology that's destroyed my generation.

Heard about Machuca a lot. When I began surfing in 1981 he was out of the scene and never saw him surfing or even a picture of him. This segment is part of the history of my favorite sport. Thanks for sharing.

Bridges breaks in front of what used to be a slaughter house or something similar, so sharks were always crushing around the break. Steps was a shorter break , fickle, but snapper than bridges. Bridges got big though a lot bigger than what shown in the film. I liked machuca he would always talk to me like I was just anybody else. Wasn’t stuck up or snotty like the rest of those other jerks.

I only surfed Bridges once, but it was excellent in the late 80's. Many moons ago the Hobie surf team had an impact on the local North FLA surf scene.

Machuca was the only black rican surfer and one of the best. There is a beach named unofficially after him
