Like NZ of the year award, absolute woke joke
And this adult crap is being fed to children.
Oh man I remember how one sided the social studies lessons on "The Treaty" were when I was a yung-un. No mention of how keen everyone(including Maori) were to sign it to stop the killing. If I had no idea how biased it was then, kids today are doomed.

❤ Unfortunately, you won't win any children's book awards if you write that though. Your comment is too inclusive and loving. Only hatred and racism wins children's book awards.
So a Maori Supremacist book wins the children book of the year? So themes of violence and opposing the police are now okay to be taught to children according to the people who gave this book the award.
It starts with the Children but continues right throughout school and university, with the aim of brain washing all into left thinking Marxists.

Hey Luxo you were voted in to stop this nonsense, only it is getting worse, what's going on?
We need to alert David Seymour and even Winston hates this sort of stuff... Winston in particular grew up in a large family with Scottish Mother and Maori father and he attributes the success of himself and all his siblings to his Mother's pride and determination and her belief we are all equal in the eyes of God and under the treaty. Creative New Zealand is yet another swamp that needs draining. If art is any good it won't need taxpayer funding. Remember TVNZ's Assignment programme on Creative NZ art? Unfortunately this is a more true to life story of growing up young and Maori.... what a violent reaction a book telling a real life story like this would have generated! Racism in any form does not belong in our libraries nor on our school library shelves. Tax payer money has to cease supporting these people and these people must be held to account. This sort of rubbish was fostered by the Labour government when they encouraged and paid $107,000 for the extreme racist rants of a Samoan woman calling on brown girls to stab and kill middle aged Europeans... The authors of these sort of books/poems should be publicly shamed and prosecuted for their extreme racism They certainly would if they were European authors.

Indoctrination of the young
You do know our children are not fooled by the rubbish in schools, talk to your children or grandchildren and see. As with most generations they will rebel against social education.
You mean they will rebel against the social engineering, it's not education. Cultural Marxist, Critical Race Theory based indoctrination.
During the bastion Point protest, maori children were taught to hate. This is nothing new for me
@@Mostlypeaceful896I doubt they were taught to hate during the protest.
Pakeha from that era don't have a very good history at race relations considering teachers used to beat Maori children in school for daring to speak their own language. The mother tongue of this land.
@@bert454 You prove yourself a racist extremist in you last comment .. the truth was all children were made to speak English at school... this also meant all children of NON ENGLISH SPEAKING settlers. They were dealt with in the same way as young Maori. This was in the days of "spare the rod and spoil the child" and the cane was given at school as punishment...right through until the late 1960's and certainly was not considered harsh in those days... most Maori kids I went to school with told us they got far worse beatings at home then 6 wacks of the cane over their hands! Drop the victim hood and take the chip off your shoulder and know the facts... my ancestors were given the cane for speaking their mother tongue at school also. It was agreed (and many Chiefs pushed for this) all children were made to speak only English at school in order to be on equal footing for learning ... English was the language of trade and commerce. The idea was that the children would take the language home and teach their parents. No one stopped them from using their own language in their homes or in their meeting places... my ancestors kept their language alive by doing this ... but they all knew at school it was English if you wanted to achieve and avoid the cane! I am so sick of over the top activist rewriting of our history. In the early days of the 1860's TeReo had not been established and even as late as 1911 it was possible to gather a number of Maori workers on a building site all from varying tribes and they couldn't understand each other and English was their only common language. TeReo was created to give Maori a united voice and it was taken from a small number of northern tribal dialects. Many tribes pushed back from using it as they saw their own tribal dialects would disappear (sadly this has happened).... the mother tongue of this land as you call it was the various original tribal dialects spoken in the days of our early beginnings and it certainly was not TeReo which was established much later.

Good heavens.. feeding this sort racism to our children no wonder Maori children are so screwed up and grow up violent when this is what they are being fed.. told to be proud of Dad he is Maori... feel sorry for Mum she is just a Pakeha. This is sick, racism and dangerous! It certainly does nothing to make us one equal people irrespective of the colour of our skins. Imagine the screaming from the mountains if it was written in reverse... be proud of Mum she is European... feel sorry for Dad he is just a Maori... this book would have been banned immediately and certainly not put on library or school book shelves. Citing that Maori are indigenous also is total misinformation when their own legends and their own genealogy records them to the whaka they CAME to our islands in. They are travellers like all other migrants... albeit earlier migrants. This is an activist written book obviously pedalling activist propaganda.
Māori culture is indigenous here. By definition. Polynesians travelled here. And the culture of Māori started here
