If I'm honest I was so ready to roll my eyes at this video because i thought it would be yet again a girlboss badass boss bitch anthems compilation (I can really enjoy those types of songs but they definitely don't equal feminism to me), but i'm glad you chose songs that were truly tackling the societal pressures women face. Great video !
I think you might be looking at feminism from a very western lense, while this songs and themes may not seem groundbreaking to you i think we shoulnd't speak for the korean women who have spoken about how Nxde really helped their movement, I'm not american so for me this song and (g)i-dle's hit very close to home, specially because it's something written by women for women
HIP and Nxde will forever be iconic. Mamamoo and Gidle are one of the few groups who aren't people-pleaser as they just do their business not caring about the hate thrown at them but make a song about it as a response.
kiss of life promoting female solidarity is so heartwarming, i think it really shows how this generation prioritizes solidarity among all girls instead of seeing them as competition or as a threat
mamamoo is sure feminist, and yess i am is my favorite. when hwasa said "If I wear sleeveless shirts in wintеr, It will become summer" and wheein "Light makeup, 'cause it's troublesome. I don't show skin, no need for that" both is opposite without put down each other. You can love make up and revealing cloths, also other who loves modesty is the same confident woman.
So proud of Mamamoo being here. My favourite lyric from Yes I am is "If I were to describe myself I'm a confident woman. To put it in words, a woman of feeling, If you think you can do it, you can follow me (You can) follow me".☺
I love how you can see how groups like mamamoo and exid have paved the way for newer ggs! their brand of shameless autonomy and self-expression has definitely influenced groups like gidle and loona
Literally every song by Mamamoo could be considered a feminist anthem. Just a year after their debut, they released Ahh Oop, marking the start of their feminist stance in the industry. Later on they released songs such as Yes I Am (uplifting all women and encouraging them to be comfortable in their own bodies), Egotistic, Gogobebe, Hip, Aya, Wanna be myself, and their OST WOW + many more with solo work & b-sides!
Can't believe that 0 miss A songs are here when they were one of the first Kpop girl groups releasing obvious feminist songs like the famous "I don't need a man"
I think the shift from Allergy to Queencard is also so powerful, like it's "you may be down but don't forget, you're the queencard that everyone wants to be!"
3rd generation:Exid the queens of woman empowerment 3rd generation:Mamamoo the queens of woman empowerment 4th generation:G(idle) queens of woman empowerment 4th generation:Le serafim the queens of woman empowerment 5th generation: Kiss of life the queens of woman empowerment And the fact im a fan of all the groups even makes it better ❤
EXID are more 3rd gen, they debuted in 2012, which is often regarded as the start of 3rd gen (same year that EXO debuted), they also didn't hit big until 2014
here is another feminist anthems of (G)I-DLE Sculpture Liar Lion Tomboy Queencard Love liar and sculpture is my favs although they're really underrated:/ their b-sides definitely deserve more attention
There's a sistar song that talks about domestic violence. The woman whos beat up by her husband ended up falling in love with her girl best friend and they kill him in the end haha
i love seeing clc and mamamoo and gidle in this videooooo id say much of gidle's discography is feminist anthems as well as clc's pepe! id also say 21st century girls by bts counts hehe GREAT VIDEO KEEP IT UP
I think kpop fans can forget that feminism can be different in Korea than how it is in the West. Which is why people argued about the message of Nxde being "legit". Nonetheless this is a great list overall 👌 👍 👏
Why i don't see Girls On Top by BoA? the lyrics of that son are WAY too advanced for its time bc now it is fashionable or there is a certain freedom for ggs to release feminist or empowerment songs, but when BoA debuted everything revolved around the pleasure of men, but BoA really forged the foundations of the industry
About, Ahh Oop! it was supposed to be eSNa’s solo release, but RBW forced her to do it as a Mamamoo collab. When during the promotions she got hate bc of the way she looks, RBW told her to step down. Starting from the next day, all promotional material and backgrounds mysteriously didn’t make any references to eSNa, despite them having to be sent days-a week in advance to the music shows. Edit: I wrongly accused the video of putting Mamamoo ft. eSNa at the artist, but I will still leave the story of the song here
Just want to say that the no celestial lyrics are wrong, it's freaking because Eunchae is a minor. The video is amazing and tbh gidle's entire discography fits here
I just want to tell you that Uhh Oop, sang by Mamamoo AND eSNa is song composed and did entirely by her, MMM were forced by company to sing it with the soloist. She wrote it and produced it, but the company didn't let her sing it alone, forcing both MMM and eSNa to sing it together. It's eSNa song! As much as I love MMM, we can't discredit the original owner of the song!
I find the messaging in Allergy rings a bit hollow when paired with the MV. "Not even knowing how to put any make-up on" when she's wearing a full face of on-trend makeup the whole video, has her hair done in 'messy' waves that we all know took a stylist at least 20 minutes... it's the tired old industry trend of putting jeans and glasses on an extremely conventionally attractive skinny girl and pretending that makes a difference. It'd be a LOT more powerful if for even 5 seconds in the MV she was wearing no makeup, or clothes that were ACTUALLY cheap/unflattering, or basically if she didn't spend the whole thing looking like a fully produced Idol who put some glasses on.
i get what you mean tbh i feel the same, but at the end of the day, even gidle doesn't have complete creative control over everything. considering how much the industry values perfect visuals, i doubt they had a choice. also, i think the mv itself was heavily inspired by 2000s chick flicks, which could explain the whole "nerd makeover" aesthetic. but i would like to see them break more barriers in the future and maybe present a more natural and raw side to them, since that seems to be soyeon's goal.
@@biforkpop If you're right about the creative control thing (which, you probably are), I feel like G-Idle shouldn't do "feminist" concepts for their songs if they're going to do a half-assed job
@@biforkpop As in they shouldn't write songs about female empowerment and such if they aren't willing to sacrifice getting rid of their perfect k-pop image
Bro you don't gotta shame modern feminism for trad feminism... Modern feminism is fighting for the subtle social injustices and double standards that can be missed. Even fighting these small things are necessary so they don't pile up to become a huge issue. And feminism isn't the same in all places. In many places, like countries which were previously colonised, women's position are still compromised. Just because we go the political equality in many places doesn't mean we have equal social standing or security.
Though i think girlboss anthems still rival to feminism because they're uplifting its nonetheless a bit empty as a genre.
Gidle has: Lion, Tomboy, Allergy, NXDE, Queencard it is amazing what they do. Soyeon also produced NO by CLC.
Latata, senorita, villian dies, oh my god, lucid, I want that and more songs they are amazing especially Soyeon
and, a new addition to the list, wife. another good feminist song
HIP and Nxde will forever be iconic. Mamamoo and Gidle are one of the few groups who aren't people-pleaser as they just do their business not caring about the hate thrown at them but make a song about it as a response.
Yes! ❤
yesss 👏🏽👏🏽
Fun fact: Mamamoo and Gidle are self-produced queens!
And their both self produced queens😍😍
kiss of life promoting female solidarity is so heartwarming, i think it really shows how this generation prioritizes solidarity among all girls instead of seeing them as competition or as a threat
Ikr,thats why i love them and i hope less fans would stop going against female idols and other female fans as the time passes by
Fun fact, ah yeah was made because of the censoring they had to do in up & down

(G)I-DLE entier discography saying helloooo

Wanna be myself by mamamoo is also soo good
I think that maybe "Ugly" and "Go Away" by 2NE1 might also fit this category.
yeah 2ne1 also i think ugly was the mom of allergy
You should add everything by Hwasa as well, especially I Love My Body, Maria and I Do Me.
i love my body and maria are in part 2!

Knowing Soyeon from Gidle wrote and produced NO by CLC makes them even cooler. A true example of girls supporting other girls.
"feminist anthems of k-pop"
(G)Idle - Hold my hole discography
gidle is going down in history for feminism
its 'whole' not 'hole' btw! 'whole' refers to the entirety of something, whereas 'hole' refers to an empty space within something! :)
I hope they correct it bc it takes off the whole meaning @@ree1425

Not exactly a song but the first thing that came to mind was Solar ripping her shirt off during her BTS Fire cover performance.
How is ripping youre shirt off empowering?
Love this, but one minor correction: Soyeon doesn't actually get surgery in Allergy. She goes in for it, but in Queencard, it shows she didn't do it.

top group followed by gidle 😫🩷

BoA - Girls on top; Woman
Lee Hyori - Miss Korea, Bad girls
The fact that Soyeon wrote No for CLC
ahh oop! is such an underrated song from mamamoo’s discography
it makes me laugh when someone hates on a woman for being a feminist. like yes my guy, I am going to fight for my rights and equality! As a woman!
When you say feminist kpop, the group that comes to my mind first is (g)i-dle!!
we need wonder woman by brown eyed girls because it talks about feeling empowered in A relationship and we also need to see roll deep by HyunA
sorry but please no hyuna after the scandal of her disgusting new boyfriend
yeah I forgot thanks@@noroaa

Good compilation. You should add the 2nd generation groups (at least BEG and 2NE1) ; not sure about the 1st gen. Also, soloists like Bibi.
Also apink, i think, the song im sick, if im not wrong?
mamamoo and g-idle are leading the feminist kpop movement and I'm kinda serious
Maybe Taeyeon's - "#GirlsSpkOut" is a good fit as well
THIS is exactly the reason why my 2 favourite groups are Mamamoo and (G)I-dle ❤
Bad Girls and Miss Korea by Lee Hyori
Maybe Gentleman by Kiss of Life, from what i understood abt the lyrics, it says girls don't need no gentleman they can do well by their own

I just recently listened to it ,one more day! I have it downloaded it too
Chica by CHUNGHA
Honestly So What got me listening to Loona and more into kpop
i was 11, just a little boy when i found exid and clc. and i'm STILL watching them grow with me. i'm just... so proud of them, you don't even know it🫀
*she's so pretty, yeah so lovely, she got everything, why am I not her?* always gets me
