She knew she was going to die, so she put on her prettiest and fanciest clothes and made sure everyone saw how nice she was and how kindly she asked to live peacefully in the village. She knew Lagertha would kill her, so she wanted to give the best impression she could. I hate Aslaug, I was always on Lagertha's side, but that was a pretty good move by Aslaug.
Nice is all well and good for an Anglo Saxon queen consort, but not enough for a Viking queen.
Lagertha could kill Auslaug so easily because the town is all but undefended, which for a queen with a lot of time on her hands while the king is off raiding is an unforgiveable lapse.

I thought that there was an agreement made between the two. When Asluag asked if Lagertha uderstood after their conversation endedit was meant for Lagertha to kill her. Aslaug didnt care about living anymore becasue she fulfilled her destiny (providing Ragnar with sons). And after she had her vision of them drowning she no longer had a reason to live. I dont like Lagertha though, Ragnar chose to leave her and she was so butthurt about it that she had to turn his sons against eachother. Now thats a b*tch move.

Anyway bjorn sigurd halfdan(hvitserk) and ivar are all Aslaugs sons. Hastig(Haestin) and Ubba to my knowledge do not have confirmation of who their moms were but were half brothers to ragnars other sons. Ubba being called Ubba Ragnarsson and Hastig naming his son Ragnar aswell as raiding luna Italy with bjorn and creating the coffin trick that the show had ragnar do instead.

Having many children was a way of leaving a mark on the world and not to forget that it's also a huge instinct and drive that is within us all. Ragnar loved Lagertha but he also had great, great ambition. His ambition made him choose Aslaug. He wanted Lagartha still because when it came to love, he truly loved Lagertha. Sadly jealousy is also a natural feeling and an instinct that helps with survival and is part of us all, not sharing things we love is a natural thing and came from the days when we had to fight for every last bit that we had to survive. Lagertha couldn't bear this strong feeling and chose to leave instead. Only to end up in a much worse place where she was abused by her new husband. It was a real struggle back in the days and sadly listening to your heart wasn't always the safest choise, especially for women.

Although I would understand that any women would seek out the father after they find out they are pregnant. It takes two to make a baby after all. It's just that Ragnar slipped up (sticked his D in crazy as they say) and he was in one big mess when the concequences came onto his table. Lagertha wasn't able to bear any more children. Aslaug was. So it was a dilemma really since Ragnar wanted many more sons. It was when Lagertha left him he just got stuck with Aslaug and made the best of it. I dunno I'm not the best at this so correct me if I'm wrong. I loved the series. Especially because of the insane drama it had sometimed. Truly my fave show. :)

Lagartha regretted everything in her life after this moment... She had her moment as queen, only to lose it all and the ones she loves... Even the english knight-priest she found comfort from, someone she had 0 ties and history with. Leaving her alone when he dies in battle screaming her name. But it still doesnt make sense as to why she killed Auslag, Lagartha was given what she wanted and Auslag walked away. The entirety of their lives would have been very different if she did not play this move. She started having problems with Ivar, son of the man she really loved. But that is fate, a lot of this is about the way the Gods want these events to happen. Or that is how they believe it. Its a great story... Its such a great story from vikings that thousands of years later we made it into a tv show. Just like the story of spartacus and so many other historical events. We can imagine what life back than would be like but only imagine it. The actors played their roles perfectly.

I think Lagertha and Aslaug had a silent agreement in this scene. Aslaug wanted Lagertha to kill her so her sons would seek revenge, and Lagertha killed Aslaug because she wasn't afraid of the consequences; she just wanted to take it all back. I think this scene is kind of badass for both of them.
Lagertha always knew she would kill Aslaug one day. Aslaug could see the future of some things. She had finished what was foretold of her. She knew her sons would avenge her, I think that's why she smiled. I wish Lagertha hadn't killed her like this, I think it made her look less than she was. But, I think she had Waite so long for her revenge and had been so publicly humiliated by Ragnar & Aslaug she had to publicly make her point.
She stole her man her throne and thought she could just walk out like this.

One of the most frustrating things about Vikings was that none of their “heroes” ever matched the way they hyped them up. When you ignore the fact that the writers so obviously want you to love her, you can see that Lagertha was actually pretty pathetic.

While some think shooting her in the back was bad, just remember this... we are putting OUR sensibilities into the equation. What L did was poetic justice as far as SHE was concerned. To her, in that Era and mindset, Asshat ruined her life. Not by sleeping with R or even by getting pregnant. The fact Asshat chased him down, stayed and refused to be a strong woman and raise the child without barging into a marriage.... THAT is why L hated her.
This was a petty move on her part. Literally no reason she had to kill her. But then again, who’s to say Aslaug wouldn’t have stirred up some shit and tried having Lagertha killed.
To me this whole series was about pettiness and stupidity, honestly. It’s pretty compelling, but every single character has shown at least a dozen stupid actions by the end of it, none to forgive. Aslaug herself basically adopted Bjorn’s firstborn to let it die and nobody gave a sh*t about it… This whole plot was a sh*tshow of stupidity, and somehow people still forget it and remember this scene where Lagherta actually have motives…
In Viking tradition in order to become monarch you have to kill the current monarch. That, and Auslag literally stole her love, the throne, and pitted those sons against each other from the very beginning. Auslag shouldn’t have traipsed around rubbing it all in Lagertha’s face.

Let's be honest, no one really cared about Aslaug. The only person who did, was her son Ivar, and the rest of her kids didn't actually care. Hviserk only killed Largertha on accident and Ubbe only momentarily got caught up in his emotions, by the end, even he cared for and respected Lagertha.

У Лагарты грубые черты лица, почти мужеподобные, сама тоже широкостная, меня в ней ничего не привлекает. А у Аслауг очень своеобразная красота, какой-то манящий образ. Реально колдовская красота. Живьём она наверняка ещё лучше смотрится.
I like how people kinda reacted poorly to this. Lagertha, from the get go, was never nice nor she was reasonable. She was self centric, heedless, overly proud and obsessed with fame and glory.
This is the woman who couldn't even accept staying at home when Ragnar first made voyage, this is the woman who aggrevated Ragnar's trial by cursing Earl Haraldssson just because she was underestimated for being a woman, this is the woman who wanted to be in Ragnar's fame, lost her earldom for how dumb she was about trusting people, and expected Ragnar to start a civil war, just for her own pride.
Not to mention, she probably got pregnant by Rollo and when Ragnar did the same with Aslaugh she simply left. The only difference is that Ragnar never knew about this.

Aslaug was never dumb… People seem to forget how calculated she was. From day one she has shown to be the most manipulative character the series have ever presented, and for people to buy her peace wish as genuine she outdone herself on this capacity… Aslaug was never, ever peaceful for crying out loud.
Y’all must have forgot that Lagetha told Aslurg she was going to kill her one day 3 seasons ago for bewitching her husband and taking her home and her happiness , Aslurg thought that if she came out there and hand the throne back to Lagertha that she would not kill her and SHE THOUGHT WRONG!! My girl tapped that azz!!

Lagertha acted like a coward treacherously attacking from behind an unarmed Queen who had already surrendered. Lagertha was so dumb, she ruined everything and caused the war between the sons of Ragnar, and sentenced herself. Aslaugh left like a real boss lady smiling at how stupid Lagertha is, and because she already did what Lagertha could never, she gave Ragnar sons, and Lagertha felt so humiliated by Aslaugh. Queen Aslaugh tapped Lagertha's ass, lol.

This was supposed to be a hint to the audience that Lagertha was actually the bad guy. A bit too obvious, shooting someone in the back over a jealous rage... but some people still didn't get it. 🤷♂️

Lagerthas biggest mistake auslaug litterly smiles cause she knew as soon as that arrow hit everything that could've been repaired will be totaled lagertha basically signed her own death warrent the sons of ragnar would turn against eachother just calamity at its finest and honestly if lagertha didn't start randomly doing dumbshit.
This was the biggest mistake Lagertha ever made in the series. The ramifications of this action would essentially rip apart a brotherhood.

My perspective was that that is her husband and her duty in her eyes was to fight alongside him as a team.
