I think a lot of people get introduced to BTS in passing and don’t even realize it until they actually start stanning. I know for me I actually remember seeing BTS perform Boy With Luv with Halsey at the BBMA in April of 2019…I thought the performance was cute and the song was good so I added it to one of my playlist but I didn’t really think much of them at the time after that (I was honestly watching the award show for Jonas Brothers cause it was there first performance together after disbanding for a while lol) and then later on that year I think in the middle of October Apple Music actually suggested to me to listen to the Make It Right Remix with BTS & Lauv cause I really had been into Lauv around that time cause of To All The Boys…I heard Jimin sing “Baby I” (tho I didn’t know it was Jimin at the time lol) and I had to figure out who was singing…so like any sane person I started watching there content to figure who was who so I can see who was singing that part and the rest is history. I was baffled when I later found out that BTS had been performing at the BBMA since 2017. I legit watch every award show and it’s like I most likely had seen them perform way before 2019 and just didn’t even know 🤯

I have a similar story! I'm a digital media production student and a few years ago in one of video production classes we were talking about styles of music videos, and Mic Drop was one of the examples, specifically with framing and transitions. I had no idea who BTS was at the time and we weren't focusing on audio, just visual, so I didn't really pay attention to the song. But in June my friend introduced me to them, and one of the first few videos she sent me was Mic Drop and I was like '...wait this looks familiar.' Funny how that can happen. Song-wise, I'd second everyone saying Black Swan, Save Me, Dope, Silver Spoon/Baepsae, and especially Dis-ease, and I'd also throw in Spring Day and Look Here. Those songs all have the vocal line, as well, and all of seven of them kill it, as per usual. Spring Day is especially a song that if you watch the MV, you should also do the explanation video by Italian Army (ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html), although I'll include a warning that it's about the sinking of the Sewol Ferry and is a very heavy topic. Some people have said Intro: Persona, but you've seen the MMA 2019 - that was the first song, RM in the classroom. The lyrics are amazing so you should definitely take a closer look! I personally really like Moonchild, too, it's from his mixtape Mono. Interlude: Shadow is a great one for a Suga solo, Daechwita is honestly one of my favorite songs ever (and I wasn't really a rap fan before BTS), and also I think you'd like Seesaw. Respect is a Suga and RM unit song and it's amazing. For a J Hope solo there's Outro: Ego, which is very good, I really like Daydream from his mixtape, and I'd also strongly suggest watching the Wings Comeback Trailer: Boy Meets Evil (ruclips.net/video/iJJSh-eEdRk/видео.html). Outro: Tear, Ddaeng, and UGH are iconic rapline songs - if you do Ddaeng though you should also do the explanation video by DKDKTV (ruclips.net/video/fdJl1SL03Ac/видео.html), it helps explain the lyrics. The volume of songs is sometimes overwhelming, but it's all good music, BTS really is another level. definitely recommend an old song from them “Jump” it has really good rap, adlibs, singing and good lyrics. there’s no video but it would be good to watch the colour coded lyrics for english and who’s singing what. my favourite song by them! it is a must!
I actually had a super similar experience. A few years ago, 2018 or 2019 or something, a good friend of mine was telling me about the Kpop group her 12 year old daughter loved and they got her a sweatshirt. It was BTS but at the time I didn't think anything of it. Then fast forward to May 2020 when "Daechwita" came out, it somehow popped up on my youtube feed and I watched it, or at least started watching it, and I was kinda "meh" about it. But then in Oct 2020 I accidentally got introduced to BTS again and just, I was in a place that I really needed them (and I'd decided to delve into a lot more foreign music in the intervening months), and I remember thinking when I saw "Daechwita" again after falling in love with BTS, "Oh wait, I saw this back when it came out. Why didn't I get into it then!? I wish I had." It was also then that I connected BTS back to my friend's daughter and was like....wait. I could've been in this sooner!? Whyyyy?? But, also, I found them when I really really needed them, and, like you said, I'm ARMY now and that's what matters. :) (sorry, didn't expect that to be this long).
You should check out the live performance of this at mama 2017 in Hong Kong, it is one of their best live performances and has an extra dance break at the end!

Ok for hip hop/rap there is a ton. Mic Drop is the finale of their rap cyphers. There are 4 rap cyphers (just titled Rap Cypher 1, etc). Mic Drop is their last farewell to all the haters and it basically says they won’t be addressing them anymore after that. So go listen to all the rap cyphers (live versions are great) and then come back and watch Mic Drop again. There are so many slangs and cultural references that, as non-Koreans, we would never understand otherwise. When you know them, you'll understand just how genius the word-play is. I had the same case! Back in 2014, I watched "Boy In Luv" MV with my high school friends, but I didn't know BTS at that time so I was like "yeah, whatever, I'm not into kpop anyway". Then in the end of 2016, one of my college friend showed me "Blood Sweat and Tears" MV and I was like, "WHOA HOLD UP! WHO ARE THEY? THE MV IS SO GREAT!" My friend said, "It's BTS!" then showed me their previous MV. When Boy In Luv came, I was, "Huh? I thought it's familiar. I think I've ever watched this?" BTS wow. Never once I thought I'm gonna be an ARMY until now ever since then. Been +5 years now😂

i totally get you. My daughter introduced BTS to me in 2016-2017 and I paid little attention to them except for their visuals. I didn't even look at the lyrics and even made fun of Fake Love just to tease my daughter who's now 17y.o. Had I known then what I know now I would have been happier longer. I might have even attended their concert here in the Philippines in 2017. My daughter's friend watched the concert and we discussed the ticket price a lot and what could have been done with the money. Now, if only I would have the opportunity to watch them live here in the Philippines I wouldn't even have to think about it, I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity.

I think you'll get a kick out of time-hopping all the way back to their debut MV, No More Dream. They started out trying to be such tough guys, which is so funny when you compare it with where they are today. They might look a bit silly, but the music itself still slaps! Their lyrics have had meaning from the get-go, the beats were great, and their choreo style was a bit different then, more sharp and perfectly matching each other, whereas nowadays they inject more individualism in their styles. Danger,, Dope, and NO are among my early favs. Maybe start watching all the MVs in order!

Cody, I totally get u! I watched Idol and Blood, sweat and tears when it came out, and was like idk man not for me. Until I listened to MOTS7 (btw highly recommend listening to this whole album) and was like wait, why did I said no to them? hahaha and I also felt the way you were feeling. lol I would highly recommend Deachwita from Suga, Daydream from JHope and Seoul from RM for the rap content.

Song-wise, I'd second everyone saying Black Swan, Save Me, Dope, Silver Spoon/Baepsae, and especially Dis-ease, and I'd also throw in Spring Day and Look Here. Those songs all have the vocal line, as well, and all of seven of them kill it, as per usual. Spring Day is especially a song that if you watch the MV, you should also do the explanation video by Italian Army (ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html), although I'll include a warning that it's about the sinking of the Sewol Ferry and is a very heavy topic.
Some people have said Intro: Persona, but you've seen the MMA 2019 - that was the first song, RM in the classroom. The lyrics are amazing so you should definitely take a closer look! I personally really like Moonchild, too, it's from his mixtape Mono. Interlude: Shadow is a great one for a Suga solo, Daechwita is honestly one of my favorite songs ever (and I wasn't really a rap fan before BTS), and also I think you'd like Seesaw. Respect is a Suga and RM unit song and it's amazing. For a J Hope solo there's Outro: Ego, which is very good, I really like Daydream from his mixtape, and I'd also strongly suggest watching the Wings Comeback Trailer: Boy Meets Evil (ruclips.net/video/iJJSh-eEdRk/видео.html). Outro: Tear, Ddaeng, and UGH are iconic rapline songs - if you do Ddaeng though you should also do the explanation video by DKDKTV (ruclips.net/video/fdJl1SL03Ac/видео.html), it helps explain the lyrics. The volume of songs is sometimes overwhelming, but it's all good music, BTS really is another level.

definitely recommend an old song from them “Jump” it has really good rap, adlibs, singing and good lyrics. there’s no video but it would be good to watch the colour coded lyrics for english and who’s singing what. my favourite song by them! it is a must!
I actually had a super similar experience. A few years ago, 2018 or 2019 or something, a good friend of mine was telling me about the Kpop group her 12 year old daughter loved and they got her a sweatshirt. It was BTS but at the time I didn't think anything of it. Then fast forward to May 2020 when "Daechwita" came out, it somehow popped up on my youtube feed and I watched it, or at least started watching it, and I was kinda "meh" about it. But then in Oct 2020 I accidentally got introduced to BTS again and just, I was in a place that I really needed them (and I'd decided to delve into a lot more foreign music in the intervening months), and I remember thinking when I saw "Daechwita" again after falling in love with BTS, "Oh wait, I saw this back when it came out. Why didn't I get into it then!? I wish I had." It was also then that I connected BTS back to my friend's daughter and was like....wait. I could've been in this sooner!? Whyyyy?? But, also, I found them when I really really needed them, and, like you said, I'm ARMY now and that's what matters. :) (sorry, didn't expect that to be this long).
You should check out the live performance of this at mama 2017 in Hong Kong, it is one of their best live performances and has an extra dance break at the end!
My favorite BTS rap songs: #1 Ma City. After that Cyphers 1 and 2, We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2, Dope, Disease, UGH!, and Spine Breaker. And then there is all their solo stuff 😁 JHope: Baseline; Suga: Daechwita and Interlude: Shadow; RM: ft. Wale ‘Change’, Intro: Persona, Do You.
Ok for hip hop/rap there is a ton. Mic Drop is the finale of their rap cyphers. There are 4 rap cyphers (just titled Rap Cypher 1, etc). Mic Drop is their last farewell to all the haters and it basically says they won’t be addressing them anymore after that. So go listen to all the rap cyphers (live versions are great) and then come back and watch Mic Drop again.

Back in 2014, I watched "Boy In Luv" MV with my high school friends, but I didn't know BTS at that time so I was like "yeah, whatever, I'm not into kpop anyway".
Then in the end of 2016, one of my college friend showed me "Blood Sweat and Tears" MV and I was like, "WHOA HOLD UP! WHO ARE THEY? THE MV IS SO GREAT!" My friend said, "It's BTS!" then showed me their previous MV. When Boy In Luv came, I was, "Huh? I thought it's familiar. I think I've ever watched this?"

i totally get you. My daughter introduced BTS to me in 2016-2017 and I paid little attention to them except for their visuals. I didn't even look at the lyrics and even made fun of Fake Love just to tease my daughter who's now 17y.o. Had I known then what I know now I would have been happier longer. I might have even attended their concert here in the Philippines in 2017. My daughter's friend watched the concert and we discussed the ticket price a lot and what could have been done with the money. Now, if only I would have the opportunity to watch them live here in the Philippines I wouldn't even have to think about it, I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity.

I think you'll get a kick out of time-hopping all the way back to their debut MV, No More Dream. They started out trying to be such tough guys, which is so funny when you compare it with where they are today. They might look a bit silly, but the music itself still slaps! Their lyrics have had meaning from the get-go, the beats were great, and their choreo style was a bit different then, more sharp and perfectly matching each other, whereas nowadays they inject more individualism in their styles. Danger,, Dope, and NO are among my early favs. Maybe start watching all the MVs in order!

One of my favourite rap-only tracks is Outro: Tear, especially live - it’s brilliant, but maybe needs some more reflection on the lyrics, the rap is fast and aggressive, full of pain (they wrote it when they were going to disband) and it’s hard to read subs and listen/watch at the same time…
