Curtis, I wish to pay you a compliment… I just clicked “do not recommend channel” for Non DIY HVAC… for one main reason: Ted is so disrespectful at times, talks smack about his PAYING CUSTOMERS and is generally too full of himself for my liking. You have massive skill and experience and you display NONE OF those DB qualities that Ted can’t seem to bring himself to stop. Nicely done work. Polite and a lack of egomania. From one tradesman (frame and finish carpenter) to another… WELL DONE. 👍🏼
I don't mind Ted C. and his attitude towards DIY, he's not posting videos for DIY'ers. But his info is still teachable to anyone who takes the time. Most HVAC distributors in Calif will not sell anything to DIY, refrigerant related or not. I'm retired/disabled and it took a while to connect with a distributor who will sell to me. If you want an arrogant D.B., it's Mikey Pipes. Curtis is educational and humble. He's in my top 5 YT'ers
@blh3741 I like Mikey Pipes videos, but I have noticed as of recent, that every business he merges with, or aquires, ends up with no employees, and the business partner, or previous owner ends up no longer working there. At first, I didn't think much about it, but after a few times, I think his problem lies in the mirror.
Nice of you to share, as always. Just info, A Captain Hook tip by Uniweld works perfectly on these for brazing tight locations. There is a learning curve, but you should give it a try . It comes in 3 different sizes ( part numbers NTF-5, NTF-9, NTF-17 ). I thought you might have one when you said "break out my Hook", but never saw it
Thanks for your persistence with getting this Mini-Split Operational again. Thank GOD they had two (2) window Units. We have one (1) Heat Death in STL so far. 🙏
Love to know the price of this job. I would think it be cheaper to buy a new mini split than replace the compressor. Even more so if the compressor wasn't under warranty.
That third bolt in the back for the feet of the compressor and getting the crankcase heater back on have to be some of the hardest things to do in hvac 😂😂😂
I have a Mitsubishi mini split that keeps going into defrost mode. I’ve changed the sensors and the board and still doing the same thing. It works fine in cooling.
I had a Carrier mini split with similar issues. Compressor checked fine, but every time it was powered up, it blew the fuses in the disconnect. If unplugging the Compressor, it wouldn't blow the fuses. Carrier tech support argued with me that the Compressor, being DC voltage, shouldn't blow a fuse. After explaining to him that I had already replaced the board, he agreed I should replace the Compressor. I guess we'll see, when it arrives if I am right or not.
Customers really need to tell you that they had someone look at the condenser. That person may have disconnected the wires to do a ohm check and was careless to put them back on correctly. So, may be it was a bad board and a good compressor, but not knowing what went on before you, makes the job harder to diagnose and fix.
You know, its always hard to make the judgement call, but really the board could have been bad which leads to compressor to fail. Anyway, either way it gets a new board now. Nice job
I have one of the older midea inverter mini split units, it has a 3 ton Mitsubishi compressor in it. Shocked to see high quality parts in some of those Mideas.
I looked in the manual at one of the popular midea clone units that use those gmcc compressors and the terminals didn’t seem to matter on the compressor because it’s 3 phased and same impedance on all terminals. And from what I understand the rotation on those doesn’t matter. But I am all for hooking the right wires to the right place! Might just come from the factory that way.
Gmcc compressor company was once Toshiba. They are very inexpensive compressors used in every brand in the world. I mean every brand. Quality is very good for the price point.
You sir are incorrect. I suggest you take the sound blanket off thenm and see for yourself. Not all but alot have the gmcc compressors. Gree flexx is one. @@sprockkets
That Milwaukee vacuum pump is so expensive. U can get a 1kw battery pack and a compressor for that much. The battery pack can be used to power other tools
I’ve had 2 of these die on me pretty much identical to the unit you are servicing. The smaller units are so cheap it’s easier to just replace the whole unit. But I wonder if I should try this? lol.
I guess my question would be, Why don't the manufactures put a screw-on fitting on the compressors, it would make it so much easier to replace a compressor. I installed an air conditioner in my '65 Mustang (all screw-on fittings) and 20 years later it was still working great so it can't be vibration issues. It would have been so much easier to replace the compressor with fittings and not have to solder it. Great video!
Fittings cost more than a swaged brazed joint. They are making thousands of these units a week in China. They don't care about the technicians that have to work on them. These minis are basically throw away machines when they have major problems you can order the entire system with indoor unit online for under 1000 bucks. The off brands are even cheaper and they are made by Midea or Gree.
One thing I have always told people is never do business with someone who acts like they are Gods Gift to whatever trade it is, their ego will never allow them to be wrong and so you will have to pay for their screw ups. As for me personally I know I only walk on water during cold winters.
I thought mini splits no longer brazed and were all connections to prevent contamation? Or is that newer ones? I was waiting for you to melt some wires...
At least you admitted it but you never tested the compressor once it was out like you said you would? That tight spot that you were brazing in looked like a good place for Staybrite8
Love how you used the oxyacetylene to chase off that bug.

Did a compressor aswell today in Charlotte, NC. It was hot as heck. Good work as always.
Thanks 👍
I feel cooler already.
Great change out Curtis glad all went well on to the next thanks for the video
Good job Curtis; tight spot and bugs all over!
Nice work keep up the good videos!
Thanks, will do!
Great job,Curtis!
Thanks!
Good braze job, i always seem to struggle in those tight areas
When i have to do that repair i take the panel over the fan, fan and center divder out makes everything so much easier
In my place usually just replace the outdoor unit , glad to see people who have skill like you
That noise when the rubber plug popped out (9:32) sounded like a cartoon sound affect. lol
Makes you wonder if the compressor issue was partly caused by mis-wiring earlier.
100%!! I bet the other compressor wasn't bad, but wired incorrectly. That is why it didn't fail his ohming testing.
@@Balticblue93 ooof!
Nice work Curtis. Mini splits suck even more when its hot.
Awesome job 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
I have a Mitsubishi mini split that keeps going into defrost mode. I’ve changed the sensors and the board and still doing the same thing. It works fine in cooling.
Had to replace both boards on our Carrier Mini-split (Midea) after a lightning strike got into the house wiring. Touchy stuff.
Where is the sensor?
Well done Curtis, that sure was a tight area to work in 😣 Au

I take it that was a multi head split system which is why it was worth repairing rather than replacing?
Yes
any inputs of why is the pressures equally at the end ?
ohh 2 on low pressure side 😅
Both are on suction of different circuits

GMCC compressors... they use those in the Midea made products, Dehumidifiers, Window units, portable units ETC.

That was a hot mess of a job for sure. The heat really takes its toll and good thing for that portable fan. Although it needs a a/c switch setting 😅
I did a Bosch compressor and they are a pain.
What is the red rubber band for?
What is the brand of the mini split
MPN, never heard of it but probably the cheapest the mfg housing builder could find, any reg split system would be better.

Hmmm, no new dryer on this one after compressor change??? Is that normal for Mini Splits?

Hey Curtis. Random question. Milwaukee everything. DeWalt fan. Sup with that?
I was wondering the same thing
Why don't mini splits use a filter drier? (I know that external lines are not liquid lines}
OI thought that you would test for acid.
Cheaper to throw it out and install new condenser
$2500 to replace a compressor? Really?
You call air conditioners mini splits in the US, is that because the outdoor unit is smaller than other units?
This style, which is normally non-ducted we call mini splits.
That vacuum pump sounds like it's being water boarded.
