The Wurlitzer sound to me is a lullaby. Thousands of hours of listening to funky, rock, jazz during the 70's. Supertramp, Deodato, and so many others...
Rhodes & Wurlitzer =
How about the Vox Continental, or "Connie"?
Billy Preston also loved the Hohner Pianet
Rodes vs wurlitzer
Steely Dan, Supertramp, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder; so many good artists and bands to pick from and feature on your tunes list! :O
And Graham Nash !
I've been gigging with my 200 for over seventeen years, wouldn't trade it for anything, it's so expressive, useful across a wide variety of styles, and just flat out feels good to play! It satisfies like no digital keyboard can, no matter how realistic it is.
I knew you were going to mention Supertramp! I can also think of Queen's "You're my best friend"...
Shout out to John Wyke-Smith, had his Wurlitzer electric piano since the 1970’s. I did so many gigs lugging the thing in and out of working men’s clubs with him. 👍♥️🙏🌈🇬🇧
Awesome! There are so many great songs and artists who have used this iconic instrument.
The sound of the Wurlitzer has a sort of FM synthesis character to it, kind of the effect you demonstrated made think that you probably replicate this sound well with a DX7. Also it sounds quite soft and warm but it can also sound with a lot of bite. Defenitly a very expressive instrument.
MadFame has a tutorial how to program a Wurlitzer to a DX7, i did it and it sounds amazing for a quick little program
Cannonball Adderley Quintet had a huge hit with a Wurlitzer Electric Piano with Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. Joe Zawinul really did an outstanding job using that piano back in 1960s
thanks for the demo doc, great instrument and nice playing
Fantástic,fantástic,fantástic!
Some things are just a CLASSIC PIECE OF MASTERY!!!
Spooner Oldham playing on Aretha's "I never loved a man" is probably my favorite on the 200a. Great stuff!
There's a tiny little elf inside doing all the magic! Wow only two onboard controls and all that perfect simplicity makes it just an amazing instrument. Perfecto!
Help! I am addicted to Dr Mix! Add a glass of Serre Nove, some Grissini, some pieces of Parmigiano and tweak that volume knob! Feels almost like being a member of the Dr Mix family. life is good 😄
Man!!!!! Do you EVER make bad videos? If ya do, I have yet to see one!
The Doctor keeping the Wurly alive!
sounds absolutely amazing
my favorite instrument of all time!! :)
Gotta love a Wurly.
Please make a piano lesson, you are play very well. Saludos!
I wonder if you know how great of a teacher that you are.
Great Analogue sounds done by engineering rather than silicon chips and processors 👍🇬🇧🙏♥️🌈
I really love when you mention iconic artists as Ray Charles or Supertramp in your vids as probably most of the youngsters here don't know who the hell are you talking about!! LOL :) so GREAT!! keep it up, Marco. Cheerio.
A hell of a lot of youngsters listen to classic artists. I'm pretty sure a lot of them will have heard of Supertramp
Maybe in your circle, but is not very common, believe me, I hope it would be lot more... These artists became the new classical Beethovens, or Mozarts of our time, deserve respect and constant exposition on mass media. Not only on specialized stations, or channels. Just my humble opinion of course.
I'm pretty sure if you are watching this channel you're already familiar with 70s, 80s and even 90s music. That's my case. For example, I would love it if people gave more credit to Kool & the Gang, but that just doesn't happen.
Yep, not only I'm familiar with these decades of music, but I had been living and enjoying the 80s and the 90s!! Sometimes I just feel like an old fart remembering past days hehe...."let the good times roll" :)
Very nice E piano!
Could you do "Rhodes in Action" too? I really like the soft sound, and I would be very happy if you could show, how this legendary piano works!
I bought one with 3 keys that sometimes sticks and one key that distorts in a very funky way. I want to tune all my keys this way. I paid a mere $50 for it!!!
I’m super stoked!
I love it dearly,
I’ve always lusted for a Fender Rhodes, still do
But the Wurlitzer is definitely my second favorite electric piano.
I put it through a cheap Mark bass mini pedal to increase the volume as it come out very low without. From there I send it to my Alexis Quadraverb. And from there to a cheap mixer from the mixer into two 15 inch Fender amp {BXR 100 bass and and to the KXR 100 keyboard amp
I got grooves for days
Cool! I'll be watting for those videos...
Amazing video!! Love all of them!! I am 14 as I have mentioned and I just bought a black wurly 200a last week!! Came with the legs and the original sustain pedal as well!!
Take good care of your instrument, please!
I will of course! I also have a dx7 and a super jx 10 that I bought. I am only 14 and very much into vintage synths and the Wurlitzer!!
Wurlitzer also built Accordions (also when Hammond bought Cable-Nelson, they sold their Everett Orgatron amplified Reed Organ rights to Wurlitzer), so that's where their Familiarities with Reeds came from.
An American music educator named Benjamin Franklin Meisner also had a hand in the Wurlitzer Electric Piano development as they were originally used in College Piano Labs
Very cool. Maybe next a Fairlight CMI or Synclavier?
The sound has really grown on me now can do warm and mellow or cutting. The vibrato sounds more like tremolo but very nice.
I like the two lights behind the Doctor🌖🌙🌖🌙
Wow sound huge, thanks Dr
+Doctor Mix
Hey Man i love your enthusiasm! All of your videos that i have seen so far have really been great. Keep up the good work.
You definitely need more rings! Love your performance, funky and super fun. And yep, the 200A - what a monster! Also, thanks for the explanation of the difference between it and the Rhodes.
love ur videos man - inspires me to use more of them oldschool sounds in my own tracks too
Keep up the great work! 3:09 would be so cool to see a full song of this and other full original songs too on this channel. that would be a cool way to market your channel and your mixing services
Please do more videos with this keyboard good Sir
What a surprise! I never thought you would demo a Wurlii. Next : an Harp and an Oboe thank you.
Hey doctor mix can you make a video with the Wurlitzer Piano and fender Rhodes being played through a phase shifter
I owned a Rhodes and a Wurly last century. The Rhodes was much more road-worthy! There were many issues with the Wurly. Sound-wise, you needed both, though.
I have one. It is very fun to play, but maintenance and tuning are issues. You need lead solder and a soldering iron to tune the reeds.
No really. Sometimes you can get away with moving the Reeds.
CP70 next??
I was wondering when you would do the Ray Charles number. I think you need to do if for the sake of justice!!! :)
Great video.
Early instrument of choice for Daryl Hall.
Any recommendation for songs that uses the Wurlitzer? I've already listened to the 10 songs google recommends btw.
nice video. If you're originally from Italy do you have any experience with the Elka Rhapsody
Want more. Good video.
Nice camo-hat. Especially like the 6-gun index fingers ... blazing.
Every time I hear this piano, I picture the Peanuts gang walking into a scene in one of those old TV Specials
Why don`t you have a seat ? It`s more comfortable.
btw please in the future look at a Philips Philicorda as well, you`d love it.
Very influential on Elvis Presley for instance. .. "Wurlitzer one for the money..two for the show...."
one to get ready-now go cat go!
kjchicago1 haha.. :-) but it is incorrect..probably due to my mistake which I just corrected.. cough cough...well it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready now go cat go...Thought I would post in your defense. You know what it is like up here... one little slip and people will step all over your blue suede shoes..
Dude.... yes
''Take a look at my Keyboard, it's the only one i've got, not much of a Keyboard, i never seem to get a lot''..lol
Does anyone know what the cover/case is made from? It looks like a vinyl cover over something like fibreglass, but I don't think that'd be it. Cheers.
Thanks for that Rick!
Does this have one of the new amps?
Used to own one. Replaced the cracked keys by myself
Doctor mix, can you tell me what keyboard was used in Gilbert O'Sullivan's Get Down, with that fuzz sound?
Any chance you could do Blondie Heart of Glass?
👍👍
I wants one.
Id love to hear a Rhodes and Wurlitzer played at once on the real thing not on keyboard or VST's
It does not induce electricity to a pickup but flux.
Please review roland xp 50
Did you ever think to make a playlist where you not only play intros and tunes, but also teach how to play them?
You could start from the easiest, and eventually offer the hardest on demand, from pop, jazz and blues.
I would be your first subscriber... :-D
Dream gear list has to include a Rhodes Mk1, Mk2, and a Wurly.
Gnome Party I am 14 and I bought one!!
@@agoushy74 Enjoy playing it. I bet it's fun :)
Gnome Party thanks!! Very much!! If you ever find one, I suggest purchasing it!!
Supertramp’s Sound
Rhodes vs Wurlitzer
Impossible choice !
They both are iconic and have been used in so many records since the 60s it's unbelievable. Both are worth a LOT of money and in high demand.
Roland xp 50 review
👍
i want a real one so bad ughhhhh
All I’m saying is Bloody Well Right intro
Wondering if this guy has enough rings on.
Well I heard about the fella you been dancin’ with….
Show us the Roland JP8000
Ray Charles, Doors, Beatles...
supertramppppp
Yeah copyrighted to Stevie Wonder ;)
Fav use: Kid Charlemagne
That uses Rhodes piano
Christopher Harris oh dang u right
@@benm8503 only reason I know is I looked it up a long time ago. Sometimes the Rhodes and Wurly sound real close
Though I'm a guitar player, I love keyboards. and progressive rock keyboard players like Banks, Wakeman, Emerson and Lord. But man, the Wurlitzer electric piano and I do not mix. Such a dated and wimpy sound. I wonder what Alan Parsons' "Eye in the Sky" would sound like with a heavier keyboard tone. Never could get into Supertramp because of this instrument. Reminded me too much of Captain and Tennille.
I'd like to give it a "wurl".
Playing like you have osteoarthritis heheh!
