It's tough to not live in the past when your whole life was dedicated artistic gymnastics....but one day I couldn't handle the collegiate level anymore and I quit. That's when the abuse started. I really affiliate with your 'not living in the past' advice. I'm still struggling to get away from the bottle, but your videos are inspirational to me for a happier day.

Thank you for sharing this..there are alot of us who struggle with identity as well..and that is a strong enabler to our addiction and disease. I can relate to excelling in a vocation and profession..only to one day not have it anymore. As a matter of fact..*my opinion* a good many of us Alcoholics and Addicts are quite talented and definitely prone to survival instincts..I think it's our perfectionism that drives us to believing we failed...IF, we didn't "win"! We are in this together friend..so if you ever want to vent, or need anything that I can help with from my side of the globe just let me know. 24 hours at a time

Hi. This is my second time watching this video. "life is a garden. DIG IT!". "Do I ramble...?" I started drinking in 1997 because of a breakup. I am still struggling with it, but I went from being carried ER to measuring my drinking and being more responsible. I can't forgive myself when I have a beer. I feel like I have fallen off the wagon once more... But I don't blackout anymore... Am I entertaining an addiction instead of grabbing the bull by the horns? My therapist is good and he has helped me be more positive about myself... But I wonder if he should be more forceful on the fact I have to quit for good... Anyway. .. now I ramble... This video also touched me because of the mention of the wayward son... Greetings from Colombia, south America.

My disease reminds me of my past errors and mistakes because it is intimidated by the future God has in store for me

I appreciate your share. In my active alcoholism this was in fact my condition. In my Recovery I am able to be silent long enough to hear my Higher Power.

Man I need help I broke down and drank last I was doing so good. Stopped going to meetings cuz I didn’t think I needed to. Alcohol has ruined my life and I’m so scared that I can’t go past a month without drinking. I want forgive myself for fucking my life up. I’m so scared to tell the people that I love that I failed. I feel like I relapsed to remind myself that I’m a myself that alcoholic piece of shit….

Stephen, you are not a piece of sh@t! Get back to the meetings.. I did the same thing, and I stopped going to meetings because I didn't think I needed to. It quickly proved to me that I, in fact, had zero control over alcohol! I drank again for 2 years following my choice that I could.. It literally almost killed me.
