      If the child is at least 5 years old, weighs over 40lbs and can sit properly then a highback booster is an appropriate choice.

    Its been tough to get my 11 year old to continue riding in a booster seat he always complains that his friends have been sitting out of boosters since they were 7 or 8 and that it's embarrassing when his friends see him in it. I keep trying to tell him I don't care how embarrassed you are when it concerns your safety. Its better to be embarrassed and alive then to be unembarrassed and dead/severely injured.

      @@safeintheseat What's sad too is that a lot of parents not only let their kids around 11 or 10 years old out of boosters seats but a lot of them let them sit in the front seat and don't think it's a big deal at all. This is sad because obviously 1. those parents are risking their kids safety 2. it also makes it tougher when parents like me try to do the right thing. He feels like when his friends who aren't only out of booster seats but are actually sitting in the front seat find out that he sits in a booster in the back seat it makes him super embarrassed and he gives a much tougher time about it. All that being said I will never allow him to sit out of the booster until I'm 100% sure he completely fits safely in the seat belt without it. I'd much rather hear a bunch of complaining with my child in a safe situation than have a peaceful ride with no complaining while my child's life is at risk.

    I have a question: My 8 y/o can ride in our vehicle without a booster, and the belt fits him properly across the center of his shoulder and low on his belly. His knees bend easily at the edge of the seat, but his feet do not yet sit flat on the floor of the vehicle, as it's a fairly high back seat. At 122 lbs, he exceeds all the backless booster seat weight limits that I have ever seen. Do you think it's ok for him to ride without a booster, even though his feet don't sit flat?

    • @safeintheseat
      @safeintheseat  Год назад

      Feet being able to touch the floor is one of the 5 criteria for the seat belt fitting properly. When children are not able to have their feet on the floor, they tend to slouch at some point during the ride. This slouching will have the belt not fitting them properly, which is unsafe in the event of a crash. If it was my child, I would either grab an extra large Ride Safer Travel Vest or get a Diono Solana 2 and use it over the weight limit.

    So as an 35 yr old ADULT should I not be sitting pretzel legged on long car rides!? I know not the point of the video. But that last part got me lol.

    • @safeintheseat
      @safeintheseat  Год назад +2

      That's correct! Everyone should sit properly for the whole ride. This keeps the seat belt in the proper position in the event of a crash.

    Hi! Is there a difference between this Diono in the video and the Monterey 2XY? I think my soon to be 6 is ready for something like that. Thank you 😊

    • @safeintheseat
      @safeintheseat  Год назад

      Yes. The seat in the video folds up, is a high-back only booster, and has rigid lower anchors. Monterey 2XT has a backless booster mode and a different type of lower anchors.

      No, because it varies by the slope of the vehicle seat. safeintheseat.com/sits-recommended-car-seats/ On this page we have an icon to note which ones are the most compact options, so you may find that helpful

    • @safeintheseat

      The 7 year old can use a booster of some sort, high back is nice for as long as possible. What the 5 year old should use depends on their maturity. If they can sit properly at all times, a high back booster is fine. If not, then they can continue to use a harnessed seat until they reach the limits
