Thank God for these tapes so young people will know what Southern Gospel music is. Contemporary is ok but this is the music I was raised on and sang it in many groups. I retire gonna form another group.
What God did through the Gaithers is nothing short of miraculous. The timing, the technology, the vision allowed generations to see and know the pioneers of Southern Gospel music.
So many faces that have become emblazoned as the royalty of Southern Gospel. We're so blessed that these videos can be seen and those faces smile on, even though many their earthly bodies have succumbed to death. I'm glad that Bill and Gloria Gaither had the foresight to get video of these beautiful faces, these amazing voices. What a gift it has been. What a gift they continue to be. I grew up listening to Southern Gospel and country music, mostly. Most of the songs that are on the Homecoming videos, I have known and sang song to since I was a small child. The Statesmen, The Goodmans, The Cathedrals, Hemphill, Nelons, The Rambos, and more I listened to on lps. Thank you Bill and Gloria, for bringing them all into our homes and our hearts. Thank you for introducing these gentle spirits to new generations.
I am so sorry that all of those old gospel singers are gone I grew up listening to them they had a program called the gospel jubilee on channel four out of Oklahoma city every sunday morning and I didn't miss an episode. I hope to see them in heaven someday
There not gone. They are still in our hearts and minds. I to listened to Gospel Jubilee every Sunday morning before Church and loved it. My daddy sung gospel music in several quartets and many times I traveled on their bus with them. We are from Georgia and everyone listened to that show before Church.
I’m 23 years old. I bet ain’t many other kids had a grandpa as lucky as me and show me these songs. He preached for 40 years as a Baptist. He raised me as a dad. We just laid him to rest, I love him so much. I hear this song him and I loved and I can’t help but cry in joy knowing he’s with our king. Where could I go but to the Lord !!!
@@thegreat12378 Then can YOU can tell me who that guy is singing "Neighbors are kind?" I've asked like 3 times now. He's standing beside Michael English
The very beginning of the Homecoming ministry. Without this wonderful idea and the miracle of video, a lot of us Yankees would have never truly experienced the beauty that is Southern Gospel. Bill Gaither introduced this far Western kid to voices like Howard and Vestal Goodman, George Younce, Brock Speer, Mary Tom Speer, James Blackwood, Hovie Lister, Glen Payne, JD Sumner and Eva Mae Lefevre - all of whom were at this early recording session and all of whom have gone home. Add to that the Jim Murray, Gatlin Brothers, Mark Lowry, Michael English and a few more (for then) "up and comers" and you've got an inspirational experience that became an institution. I'm not sure which I enjoyed more - the trio of Glen Payne, George Younce and James Blackwood or the trio featuring Larry Gatlin, Michael English and Vestal.
This entire video I recorded on VHS when it first aired in about 1987, and other than Vestal's prayer, was amazing and God honoring. A real must see if you can find it.
Vestal Goodman is the only woman, that I know of, who could sing to a football stadium, full of people, without a microphone, and still be heard by everyone there !!!!
I have many memories from by gone years during the 1950’s and 60’s when mom and dad would sing this song at home, riding in the car, and in the old First church of the Nazarene located on the corner of 2nd and Johnson. It brings back precious memories of family and friends during my childhood.
oh, how I love this song. I just heard it sung by a Filipino girl in her native language... Though I didn't understand a single word, I knew this beautiful song. Out Father speaks to us in so many languages
I bet these two times where she jumps in wasn't planned. Vestal was a line jumper. lol Heaven is going to be sweet when I get to meet these people personally, along with my loved ones, and most of all the Lord Jesus Christ who inspired this kind of glorious music.
Amen! I believe that when I have some problems doing anything, the Lord accepts them and always helps me go right way. Though it is an old hymn, I sometimes take to listening to this song thanks to the Lord's grace.
God bless these people I am going through with not know situation with what is taking place in church these days and I was questioning myself ...and this song comes to me thank you Lord ...
