I've been to games in Lincoln, Norman, Tallahassee, Clemson and Ann Arbor, and each was fantastic in their own way. But the 2 teams I would LOVE to see play at home are Texas A&M and Tennessee. There's just nothing like the atmosphere at a big-time college football game.
A few years back I got the privilege of going to Knoxville to see Florida-Vols game. The guy warned me they played this song any time Tennessee did anything remotely good, but it seemed to play the whole game plus every car driving by played it. It was a great time and the UT fans were great.

Years ago I happen to be at a bowl game where Tennessee was at. My seat was smack in the middle of all them Vol fans, and before halftime, an elderly couple that I was sitting next to made me feel like one of them. It was exciting getting to hear Rocky Top, and getting to know them Tennesseean's. That was one of my best games I've attended.
Unfortunately, they were plants. UT powers that be have their own intelligence (relatively speaking, let's remember whom we're discussing) organization. They're sole purpose is to spread propaganda to bolster their school, while spreading lies concerning sister schools. This is especially true when it comes to athletic recruiting, and the athletic department in general. The horribly sad thing about it all is that they had always been a respectable and honorable opponent since back in the days of the old Southern Conference, a group of approximately 20-25 schools, from which came the SEC. I believe the original SEC included all the current members, minus USCe, Arkansas, Mizzou and A&M. And included Tulane, Georgia Tech and Sewanee: The University of the South. On a side note, cool avatar.

It was disappointing to hear people talk negative about A&M being admitted, but I hope after two years those people have had a chance to see that the Aggies aren't your same old school. Now the hardest part on Saturdays are cheering for the Aggies, but also cheering for the other SEC school they may be playing. LOL. SEC! SEC! SEC!
Rocky Top will always have a special place in my heart for this year at my dad's Celebration of Life all in attendance sung it. This is because my dad told me many years ago that he wanted it sung at his funeral.
You know, I've researched fight songs, and traditions from all around the United States. There are two songs, TWO that can inspire, and intimidate all in one swipe. I'm not from Tennessee, nor do I plan to move. But Rocky Top has earned absolute respect. So one, is DEFINITELY Rocky Top. The other (Prepares for bashing), is "The Eyes of Texas". Both songs can move crowds into frenzies, and make those same people cry in the right situation. Those songs are what College sports are meant to be!

Watched my first ever live football game yesterday at Neyland Stadium and man the intensity of the crowd singing to this song was just electrifying. I love the fans and dare I say I envy you.
Well, I'm not from Tennessee, but I love it too. :-) I am tempted to go to a U.T. football or basketball game sometime just to hear the band play it. One thing I always thought was especially good about it was the line about the 2 strangers who went up there looking for a moonshine still, and ain't come down off Rockytop, and reckon they never will..... You don't have to be a big drinker to appreciate that.
As a Tennessee alum, I'd just like to point out to the uninitiated that Rocky Top is NOT the fight song of the University of Tennessee....the fight song is called Down the Field and is played after every TD. That being said, we play Rocky Top all the time because A) We absolutely love it and B) It pisses everyone else off. :)
Rocky top is probably a close second to Boomer Sooner in the most hated fight song for opposing teams. The Oklahoma band once played boomer sooner non stop in the second half of a game I once read.

@Trucifer It's funny because we won the championship the year after he left. And were one game away from getting back to it in 2001. We had 4 championships before Manning ever put an orange uniform on, and have remained in the top 10 winning teams for decades, including now. Since Manning left we have been to the SEC championship game 4 times. Only Florida has us beat in the East. Nice try though.

It was just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. There is now a Rocky Top but the town's name was changed to capture some amusement park project and to increase tourism.
