Mirusia singing this song gave me goose bumps. No other words for it....Beautiful. Thank you Andre Rieu for bringing her, with the JSO, for the world to see and hear.
Growing up, I remember that my late father used to love to hum a few special songs from being in Australia, Port Moresby, the Owen Stanley Mountains, Brisbane, Melbourne, and generally in close contact with Australian Soldiers 1942 to 1944 .... when I first heard Mirusia Louwerse sing "Botany Bay" lyrics, 65 years of memories of a my daddy remembering the warmth of the "Ausies" for his lifetime as your audience did when you said .."you all know this song".... Yes, he did ... yes, I did ... and for her to have done it with such grace, and with Andre composing with such power ...never have I been so moved...Thank you.. David B
Probably one of the greatest soprano's in the World. Mirusia you are consistently good and I have no doubt Andre sees the absolute best in you and that phenominal voice.
Andre' has only the best singers and musicians in the world, and his concerts and his showmanship are second to NONE. Seen him 4 times, waiting for number 5!
i am not from Australia but i had tears in my eyes...and my heartfelt love for this song..not sure what this song is all about...but i love it.. i love seeing the women waving the Australia flag at the end...i know from reading my history that some of the most bravest solders came from Australia during the fighting in WW2...i am certain that some of the most beautiful women also come from Australia...and some of the best singers...as this beautiful women Mirusia Louwerse performance is proof positive!!!
It’s about the first immigrants to our nation (British convicts), and how difficult it was to endure the pain of missing home and the ones you love. Their destination was Botany Bay, the sight for the first settlement on Australia and the sight where many Australians return home today (airport is built on the bay).
I find it impossible to believe 24 people do not like this performance. They must be both tone and stone deaf and void of appreciation of music. This is an amazing performance.
+Ed Finnesey .And Charles Williams.I'm a 65 year old Aussie male, done some bits and pieces, , been through lots more, and been damn near killed three times, twice near drowned, third by Cyclone Tracy, Christmas eve, 1974, my house destroyed, we crawled out of the wreckage of our house, bleeding but alive. Then, I see and hear this.Superb!.I sit back and SO Love this.'Nuff said.
The best single effort in my 81 years . To hear her reach those final notes was an inspiration . Mirusia is one of the best the world has offered in my time.. Wonderful
Its where they shipped all the political prisoners from Ireland in the eighteenth & nineteenth century also petty criminals from GB & IRELAND it was a living hell
As Mirusia finishes this song, we get a glimpse of the inner beauty that she brings to her performances - a rare purity of spirit and purpose that polishes each note to brilliance before she sets it free!!
Proud to be Australian born and bred. I imagine my ancestors singing this as they were transported from England to the other side not knowing what awaited them. Mirusia, you sang this beautifully, thank you.
Even today more than 20% of the population gave Irish or Scottish as their ancestry on the census. Whether transported as criminals or as escapees from incredible poverty economic rationalism was the root cause of so much of our Australian establishment.
Mirusia Louwerse is not only a beautiful young woman, she is the very best soprano I heard and listened to so far. And, mind you, being 71 years old/young, I heard and listened seriously to quite a few soprano's (starting at the age of 22, so, for some fifty years). Waxefield
I´Must say as a Dutchie, every time i´m emotianal too, by all his shows now daily on tv, here still Christmas vacation , so also on tv, a lot of oldie´s , Grtz from Amsterdam.
Your flipping right there I mean I'm into rock and metal and I can appreciate the emotion and the soul put into this lovely song even though I am from Newcastle England. Great song
This song is called 'We're bound for Botany bay' and has Music Hall origins. The Authentic folk song is called Botany Bay and can be found in Cecil Sharps Folk collection. nicely sung though.
This was not written until 1886, when unfortunately transportation had almost ceased. There were the '£10 Poms' of course but they volunteered. Had sending out the unwanted still been in existence Mrs May, English Prime Minister, would have been sent long since. Beautiful singing ....good to see a standing ovation.
Awesome! Amazing! Gods bless Australia!

What a great advertisement for Australia - it makes one very proud. Thank you.

Andre' has only the best singers and musicians in the world, and his concerts and his showmanship are second to NONE. Seen him 4 times, waiting for number 5!
André is a musical genius. He is more or less "hated" by the serious classical community.
Andre is right, I have never heard Botany Bay sung as beautiful as this. Good on you girlfriend of every Aussie music lover.

billythedoggie This song is about Great Britain sending out its "unwanted" people to far away locations. In this case Australia

Really Beautiful.........I got goosebumps when Mirusia hit the High notes at the end.....:)

Charles Williams I am American and even I get the depth of this song. Any critics are devoid of souls.

its now up to 62, they must think that this version is just too slow, but Australians will complain about anything these days, not as they used to be
