    Mark, huge thanks for posting this video, I'm a huge Fishbone fan and I have never seen a more thorough breakdown of Bonin' than this. I just completed your beginner course and now starting the Bassic Modules. I'm really pleased with the courses-just everything I have been looking for in online courses for the bass. When you can could you post a how-to on the solo that Norwood does for Bonin'? Thanks so much, Steve

    A very civilised bass lesson about a song which is about having sex in a cemetery.

    So good. Thanks! Gospel influence must be mentioned.
    Like Mark said, getting the timing on the descending octave slap is really hard. See similar lick (bass solo break) in another Fishbone classic "When Problems Arise." I've been working on that for 25 years (!!) and still can't get it.

    There are no other comprehensive videos i can find on how to play all of bonin in the boneyard.

    Hi Mark, thanks for the great video as usual!
    Btw I had an issue with popping and I didn't find any good instruction video about it. Sometimes I get my finger stuck on the string so the popping move comes a bit slower then it should be and I get off the rhythm. Would be great if you give some hints about it next time.

    • @mfC0RD
      @mfC0RD 5 лет назад

      Hi Alex! I used to have this problem when I was learning, but the secret is using almost the tip of your index/middle finger to pluck the string. It takes a little bit of practice to nail the right finger position on the go, but it will eventually happen if you repeat it enough. Good luck!

    • @alexal9736
      @alexal9736 5 лет назад

      @@mfC0RD thanks man, you're right, I just started to practice slap recently) Will take your point in mind. When I'm trying to pop with tip it usually sounds too flat like I'm just fingering it in the regular way. Keep practicing it anyway, thanks.

  • @deejjohn5279
    @deejjohn5279 5 лет назад

    It looks like when you're into he home position, you are playing the notes with the length of your fingers as opposed to your finger tips? Is that correct?

    So I had a very hard time following the really fast part. You could slow it down, even when I slow it down it's too fast to understand. Also, I start getting blisters on my popping fingers even after just 5 min of practice. What's your advice?

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  5 лет назад +1

      Take the riff down to a super slow speed. Focus on isolating each movement. As for the blisters, you'll eventually build calluses. Rest until blisters die down. Then practice hard. Rest and recover. Practice hard. A few weeks/months and you won't get the blisters b

      @@talkingbasslessons thanks. I think I just had a hard time focusing but at 75% on my third review I think I got it. And I figured that would be advise about blisters. I have callouses on my fretting tips but didn't think I would need them on my right until I started learning slap/pop

    Although, I like Fishbone, have a few of their albums & have seen them live, Fishbone was/is far from thrash.
    Here is a TRUE thrash/groove metal song with a little slap bass in it:

    I'm a huge fan of yours and your channel.
    You provide a lot of great content for bass players to work on. However slapping is overrated af.
    Focus more on music theory, fills and metal bass playing tutorials.
    This is not meant as a criticism as I like the videos you present, just a friendly reminder

    • @maurostrachwitz747
      @maurostrachwitz747 5 лет назад

      I have taken His online courses and is plenty of musical theory and playing fundamentals, also he reserved slap in different courses, if someone are interested in such technique.

      It's a style, popular. Useful if you play certain types of music. Get out of your box.

  • @logiclust
    @logiclust 2 года назад

    first off, fish only plays 5 string bases so you don't even have the right number of strings for this song or any fishbone song.. not even close to what fish actually plays. this is just a slappy mess
