- Flax (also known as linseed) is mainly grown for its fibers which can be used to create linnen. This is used for a multitude of things and the whole plant is used. Both the fibers but also the bark (stem) and the root. The seed is used to sown next years crop or as superfood or on bread an buns.
Dutch company Van de Bilt uses special harvesting machines that both pull/pick the plants and thresh the seed heads. This machine was commissioned by them and build this year. It uses picking gear from Union, self-design threshing system, John Deere cleaning shoe, Lochmann cab, Deutz engine, etc. It is truly a unique machine that is capable of high working speeds.

You guys grow linen flax not oilseed I assume, it’s so neat to see the difference in harvest compared to here in canada
Yes the primary goal is the linen but the seed can be used for oil of course.
Was bout to say, "boy we do it differently here." But harvesting it for a different purpose.

This is the cleaning shoe/sieves that you can later see in details. It removes the hulls/skin of the seed.

Thank you! The guy on top controls the 2 threshing drums which have to be perfectly lined up with the crop to thresh all the seed. The flax varies in length sometimes so this is important.
