Thanks for your valuable project. I have rebuilt the circuit but it would not go with the BC945 maybe because ive damaged it with heat from soldering . I replaced the BC945 with a BC547 transistor and it worked with constant loud buzzer. The coil was sensitive at 40 cm but the buzzer sound variation is difficult to discern. I can tell the buzzer shows some variability but it needs a careful ear to distinguish. I dont know if anything can be added to make the sound variability easier to distinguish. Note the circuit is exactly the same to yours but i used an NPN BC 547 transistor instead of the bc945 transistor with 0.4 mm copper wire 52 turns and volts battery . I tried adding B10k potentiometer to control the buzzer volume, but it was not very helpful.
Any advice?

Lower the voltage until noise reduction. Mine worked in 6 - 7 volt. And your coil is ok, I hope it works for you.
