It’s physically impossible to get over 96% of alcohol in room conditions. You can of course cross this number in lab however as alcohol is highly hygroscopic (that’s also why you feel dry on a hangover or can get throat burn) and as soon as you will open the bootle in the room it will absorb humidity from the air and will stable at 96%.
You feel dry on a hangover because you're dehydrated, because alcohol is a diuretic. Alcoholic drinks aren't anywhere near as hygroscopic as anhydrous ethanol and the alcohol consumed wouldn't absorb nearly enough water to cause dehydration. You can reduce the severity of the hangover by preventing dehydration, by drinking lots of water.
Water doesnt rehydrate though. Water runs right through. You. Water is one of ythe last things to drink after alcohol. Blue gatorade is #1
@@btnhstillfire Gatorade is great for preventing and treating hangovers, and what I'd probably use given the choice, but yes, water does rehydrate you. You just might need to drink a bit more of it.
There are circumstances where drinking too much water will dilute your electrolytes to the point where it's dangerous, but that's really extreme circumstances like when you're running a marathon. A couple glasses of water after one-too-many pints is still a good idea.
I've used absolute (100%) alcohol in many industrial applications. The old fashioned Imperial proof was 184 degrees, commonly referred to as '84 OP'. It would eventually dilute by absorbing atmospheric moisture, but this is a fairly slow process and didn't affect its everyday use. Ireland used the old Imperial system, before adopting the ABV, so the spirit should have been described as 175 proof. 190 proof is the American system, never used in Ireland sfaik.

I’m polish, and I can say that there’s a technique to drinking spiritus (95%), you need to take a shot right after a big exhale, NEVER INHALE, if you do that you’re good👍

not quite jet fuel, but in Russia they use a type of specially distilled vodka to power some of the radar systems on jets, and i have heard that there is a bit of a problem with that vodka being stolen and sold on the black market.

Yeah I thought about that, and just off my head the highest % I think I’ve ever seen here is everclear that might be 75% maybe, I’m not going to cheat and google it right now. Next time I go to our big liquor store I’m going to look and see if they have this monster. I’m not going to buy it I’m going to hide from it. Lol
@@robertcollett8073 Everclear also has 95% version, but Spirytus is not used as a drink here in Poland, we use it as an ingredient, mostly to make "nalewka" which is a type of liquor made by infusing fruits, herbs or spices with strong alcohol. So if you will find 95% Everclear or Spirytus, I do recommend to maybe drink half of the shot to find out how disgusting it is, and pour the rest into a jar, add some mashed fruits like berries, some sugar (in 1:1:0.5 ratio), and let it sit for 2-3 weeks, then filter it and keep in a jar for at least few more weeks, the longer it will mature the less boozy it will taste. Good, few years old nalewka can have 70% of alcohol and it may taste like 30% or less, so it is definitely a tricky thing.

Oooo. I'd like to try the rum and absinthe. 2 of my favorite spirits are rum and absinthe. It also takes a lot of trial to find your preferred flavor profile. Nutty, fruity, sweet, spicy, ... briney, whatever you prefer. I love a scotch with a good brine taste. Flor de Caña 18year is my go to drink. The flavors really suit my taste. But hands down, favorite spirit is Laubade 1980.

Guy from Poland here. Regarding the last drink 'Spirytus Rektyfikowany' we don't drink it. It's easy to overdrink and you can die from it. I'm not talking about some alkoholics etc. We mainly use it to make homemade liqueurs and then they are later diluted with vodka or water. Some herbs or fruits better 'dissolve' their vitamins in high proof alcohol while some need low proof alcohol. That's the only reason why it's easy to buy it in Poland.
Same with EverClear here in the states. More of a food grade preservative.
you can buy 96 % stuff in Italy, and yeah, thats not for drinking. It's actually dangerous to drink as it can give you internal chemical burns. It's for conserving and creating other stuff.
they've never drunk 95 percent alcohol. It is all a scam, FAKE. There is a special method to do this: you draw in a lot of air and drink while you inhale and exhale deeply, otherwise the alcohol vapour will burn your lungs and you would have difficulty breathing for a long time. What they are doing is stupid and potentially harmful because someone might suggest that movie and hurt themselves !!! this whole movie is one big scam. I know what I am saying, I am writing from Poland and I have often drunk high-percentage alcohol, including pure spirit. Above 60 percent, neither of them was drinking anything !!! Cheaters.

My uncle Mick, may he rest in piece, used to make the poitín (potcheen) at around 175 proof but he used to water it before sale down to 50% ABV, which made it a far nicer drink. You'd never exactly describe it as smooth but no-one ever went blind and people came back for another bottle every time.

Actually I'm not so sure, these guys are pros, they won't do the 20-years mistake of drinking til you pass out. I can already see Clara and Martin just stopping before they become hammered if they felt they were getting drunk.

@@Alsebra It's not really a competition, and we don't know how drunk any of these really get from the shots taken. Not blinking when taking shots does not automatically mean you don't get drunk fast. But personally after having watched all the 190 proof vids I'd probably give the edge to leather jacket man though.

I use Everclear grain alcohol (the US version of that stuff) all the time for making cannabis extract (RSO) to cook edibles.
