these may not be very good questions but im still new anyways question 1: do you just chose a deity or do you have a feeling that it should be a certain deity ? question 2: whats your animal totem and how do you find what your animal totem is ? question 3 : is an animal totem and spiritual animal the same?
Speaking only for myself: 1. I felt an affinity for a particular deity before I began my journey & the calling became stronger once I began seriously studying. I have had people tell me that they chose a deity only to have a different one make itself known to them. 2. The bull & the snake--both are associated with my deity. They are also both the animals that represent my horoscope in both eastern & western traditions 3. They can be but they don't have to be. Both are teachers & protectors. I think of a totem animal in the traditional sense of a totem as a representation of your ancestry or lineage or past & spirit animals as what comes into your life to teach you what you need to know right now. (The hawk, wolf, & puma have made appearances in my life at various times). As I've said, this is only true for myself. You may get someone else who will tell you something completely different. The only advice I have for you is to allow yourself to be open & trust your intuition.
u should use Guiding Spirit instead, the terms totem and spirit animal are strictly Native American beliefs which are closed to outsiders (non Natives). if u use those terms its cultural appropriation. I guess u find ur spirit guide by divination or something similar.
