A bit about the portraits... I believe someone said they were made for UTTU magazine (they do the interviews we see at friendship 3, too), then exhibited in art galleries after. So how long they were exhibited may not match the characters' ages. Matilda's portrait, for some reason, wasn't exhibited until the 1990s, by which time she was about 40 (being 14 in 1964)
Matilda went to school with young Vertin, who was already active as the time keeper in the 70s. Matilda definitely grew up in the 90s before the storm began. She's 14. Vertin and Sonetto are 16.
@@vix17vix07 she has not played chapter 4, but the VOD that she did the rest of the event in was during the subathon but it should be the one saying 17 days ago (it could be different depending on time zones I think) if you are on PC (or like not mobile) you should find it in the topic area so you can skip to it, if not her gameplay starts around 10 hour and 7 minute mark (I hope this helps!) Oh and I'm talking about the current event she did the Jessica one off stream (just want to clear that up!)
the voice acting and dialogue in this game feels ever so slightly off to me and stops me from being able to immerse properly. (that said Matilda has an S-tier VA) But holy moly the art and character designs are peak
Interesting. I think that the voice acting in general is amazing, about I'd say 90% of the cast really nails it imo but that being said I do agree with how some characters have weird voice acting like Druvis's sound quality sounding like she's teetering away from the mic at points, Apple and Sonetto having awkward delivery and even Kalaa Bauna (even though she has good voice acting for the most part) sounds really low even when taking in mind her gentle personality. Another thing of course is how the dialogue was written for chinese and how the translators was told to stick close to the original dialogue and it's quite noticeable in early chapters though I did hear that the translators are given much more freedom in how the dialogue is written to make it sound more natural. However I feel as though the awkward english can be on purpose with characters who are not of western tounge. A perfect example being Kanjira who has a thicker Indian accent than Shamane and Kalaa and also her broken english can be attributed to how she's still a kid and is not wealthy enough to be properly educated in comparison too Shamane and Kalaa. So imo I believe that Reverse 1999 has probably the most unique and debatably top 10 best voice acting in the mobile gacha game sphere but seeing opinions like yours is interesting and is certainly a topic worth a discussion.

I think its one of those things
You know how when some anime comes out and its Chinese and not Japanese, a lot of people complained
Japanese is so ingrained into the anime/gatcha community people will just complain when its not in Japanese
FFS you have people who will just automatically call a Dub inferior because its not Japanese
There is also a difference in how VA work is done that can lead to differences
Like how in Japan Animation is done first and VA work is done after
In the west VA work is done before the animation so the Animation can be matched to the voice
Also a lot of R:1999 VAs come from a theatre background and are not just VAs
I know a lot of SHIT Voice work in Japanese BUT it never gets called out,
Tldr people in the anime/gatcha commuinty will rag on Voice work not done on Japanese simply for not being Japanese
They hate accents
They hate any deviation from the norm
Edit- Also a lot of people are saying the Localisation is wrong , but its not, some characters in this , like you said do speak in broken English
I was simping for Kaalaa but Tooth Fairy is still my very first I’d simp
