    The center foil sailing looks fun ..and exhausting !!!
    A fun feature would be to be able to articulate the attitude of the Foil so you don't have so much of a spin out stall from 12/14 kn ..to zero and have it all based of the body position for articulation. or have the attitude adjusted via the foot pressure.
    Sound like a business model !!!

    Really not a fan of how this boat was designed. I can't say much from your video but from others It really doesn't seem to fly with stability and can't foil tack. The Laser-like sheeting system is too slow for quick adjustments, should be more like a moth's or an optimist's. I haven't seen it crash yet, but the bow design is purelly asethetical, because on a bad pitchpole it really seems to promise nosediving... The C inwards foils are an interesting choice, but I am guessing that they are not easy to adjust on the go. for a singlehander I would expect something more like a T foil + wand or two Outward J foils, where you are able to lift the windward one with a quick pull of a sheet...
    The only thing I can suggest for you is that you should hike using the top of your foot, not your ankles, otherwise your body position looks good! (sometimes you do this)

      "I agree. Within 10 minutes, you start to see the design flaws. The tiller extension is not the right tool for this. A longer tiller with U-shaped bars extending off either side of the tiller would be better. The sheet controls need to go back more toward the center. I have seen on more sophisticated foil sailboats that one foil is out of the water. One question: If there was a crewmate, would they adjust the foils?"

    Nice boat. How do you think - would it be hard to change it's foil system to AC75 concept from wing assembly point of view? I'm looking for a kinda donor for such experiment. if there would be electronic control over foils angle/ride height/stability the boat would be much easier to sail also in smaller winds.

    • @berndbuck8332
      @berndbuck8332  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I also thought about this. With new foils an some changes in the trimming system this should be possible.

    • @weatheranddarkness
      @weatheranddarkness Год назад

      @@jaysparc considering some of the off the shelf auto-stability devices already on the market, I think this may just be in the realm of feasible. Not easy, but something that could be accomplished. The fact that ride height control is mechanically self regulating on a Moth, and electronically so on an AC40. You can get small flight controllers for RC craft that can take inputs from laser or inertial sensors.
      I guess in one sense the question is: if you're building a 1 person dinghy, why not just stick with the moth method, as you'll be hiking out for righting stability anyway? It has been proven on a Laser as well.

    • @jaysparc
      @jaysparc Год назад

      @@weatheranddarknessWhy don't you go ask the makers of the AC40 how "easy" it is to make a foiling yacht with auto flight technology. You sound like the kind of person who thinks easily describing a problem means that the solution is equally as simple. Show me your working prototype, then I'll stop thinking your just pulling stuff out of your behind.

    • @weatheranddarkness
      @weatheranddarkness Год назад +1

      @@jaysparc I didn't say it was "easy" I just said it was feasible. Some of the key hardware components to make it work are available off the shelf these days. I don't see why you're jumping down my throat here. Your beef was with the other guy. All i'm trying to say is that you should let this person experiment on their ambition, if they fail they fail, if they succeed, they succeed. No skin off my back, nor yours.

      Most foils are shaped like an inverted “T”. They are the most efficient foils.

      Of course I am no expert, but that is my guess. I do know a little bit about foiling.

    • @berndbuck8332
      @berndbuck8332  4 года назад +1

      The following is the setting for a fresh breeze. I use minimum lift on the rudder to reduce the risk of nosediveing in displacement mode. If I use more lift at the main foils, I fly to high and get spin outs at the leeward foil.

    • @jakewillssailing
      @jakewillssailing 4 года назад

      Ah okay, that makes sense

    • @uwer.6810
      @uwer.6810 4 года назад +1

      @@berndbuck8332 from my actual experience it may help to put the rudder angle about 0.3-1.0 degree to more lift at the rudder. This reduces the lift of the main foils and at my boat dramaticaly the stalls/spin offs. At the speed where the nose dives the lift of the rudder is not significant. It can be compensated by slower acceleration - let the boat more time when tighten the sheet - and sitting more to the back. It becomes really stable on the foils, the mainfoil setting is then much less important.

A few times the 56 fin lifted the board clear out of the water. 15 -20 knots. After 45 minutes of that I am toast. This dingy or foiling hours and hours.
